Little ways to make a big difference
While it is important to make big investments, such as the $2 billion retirement of our less fuel efficient 200-series aircraft, little efforts can also reap big rewards. We continue to look for possible changes to our daily operations that will lessen our impact:
- Recycling in the office and onboard when possible
- Washing our engines and aircraft frequently - a clean engine saves fuel and a clean aircraft reduces drag, both of which help cut emissions
- Accurately estimating the drinks and water needed during a flight
- Being a leader in on-time performance - taking off and landing on time means we are spending less time unnecessarily burning fuel
- Operating with high-occupancy rates (also known as load factors) - fuller aircraft use less fuel per passenger
- Reducing the weight of our inflight magazine, up!, by 15 per cent reduced the overall base weight of each flight by 10 lb.
- Having caring and dedicated WestJetters who take an active interest on green initiatives
