Aisle, window, or favourite seat? It's up to you. Here are some commonly asked questions about seating.

1. Are there any flights where I won't be able to select a seat?

Seat selection is available for WestJet flights booked two or more hours before scheduled departure. If your itinerary includes and flights operated by one of our airline partners you will not be able to select a seat for the partner operated portion of your travel. For charter flights, seat selection is available at airports only, as we must verify your travel documents and collect necessary information upon check-in.

 

2. How can I select my seat?

If your flight qualifies for seat selection, you can select your seat when you book at westjet.com or you can contact us to select your seat.

 

3. How does seat selection work?

A seat may be purchased, for a small fee. Seat fees are charged for each flight segment and each direction of travel. Segments are identified by flight numbers; each flight number represents one flight segment. Seat fees also vary for regular seats and exit-row seats. The emergency exit-row seats provide guests with additional legroom. However, you must be able bodied to sit in the emergency exit row for safety reasons. Infants are not permitted in emergency exit-row seats.

You may select a seat, free of charge, 24 hours to 60 minutes before scheduled departure when using web, mobile or kiosk check-in. If you call our Sales Super Centre to select your seat, fee(s) will apply. Sixty minutes prior to departure, seat selection is not available. If you cancel your reservation, all seat fees on any unused flight segments are refundable.

 

4. How do I know how many flight segments I have?

Segments are identified by a change in the flight number. Each flight number represents one flight segment.

 

5. Why are there no seats available near the front of the aircraft?

The number of seats available for selection depends on how many seats have already been selected by other guests and the type of fare you have reserved. Also, several rows near the front of the aircraft are reserved for guests with special needs and for last-minute bookings.

 

6. I've already selected my seat. Am I able to change my seat before my flight?

If you selected your seat online, you will need to contact us, as you cannot change your seat through our website.

 

7. I didn't purchase my seat when I made my original reservation on westjet.com. Can I purchase it now?

If you made your reservation with a WestJet profile on westjet.com and did not select a seat(s), you can login to your profile, and select a seat. Please contact us to select seating if your reservation was made:

  • on westjet.com without a WestJet profile
  • through our Sales Super Centre
  • on westjet.com with a profile where you selected seating on any segment of your original reservation

 

8. I'm changing my flight(s). Do I need to select seating again?

If you make changes to any portion of your itinerary that originally included seat selection, the changed segment will automatically include the option for you to select new seating. For any segment you are not changing, you will not need to select seating again, as your original seating will be maintained.

 

9. Can I still select my seat if I don't want to pay the fee?

Yes, but only 24 hours to 60 minutes prior to your flight's scheduled departure through our web check-in and mobile check-in. Web and mobile check-in is available on all domestic and U.S. flights and may also be available for some of our international destinations. If you check in at the airport, seats will be assigned, at which point, you can make your seating request. The earlier you check in, the better the chance you'll get the seat you want.

  • Seat selection can only be made up to 24 hours in advance of your flight's scheduled departure by calling 1-877-737-7001 between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. MT.
