Located in the heart of the Midwest, Evansville is known for its southern-style hospitality and all-American charm. Situated on a horseshoe bend of the Ohio River in Indiana, Evansville is often referred to as the "River City." In addition to Midwestern charm, Evansville residents share strong southern family values and a commitment to community, so even though this is a city of over 100,000, you'll be welcomed as though it were a small town.

Discover downtown Evansville, a vibrant and growing area home to some of the most notable attractions in town. Add in the extraordinary architecture mixed with the beautiful riverfront walkway and Sunrise Park, and you'll see firsthand that downtown is full of many surprises and attractions.

Antiques, clothing boutiques and shops filled with charming local wares are at your fingertips downtown. The heartbeat of any city can be found in its artistic community. If you're looking to take home some souvenirs to remind you of southern hospitality, local artwork and exhibits can be seen at the Arts Council Bower-Surheinrich Gallery. With all that shopping, you're sure to work up an appetite. There's no better way to experience a city than by sampling its fare – numerous restaurants featuring Italian, Mediterranean, Korean, Spanish, Chinese and of course, local German-inspired cuisine, which is a must when visiting this city.

A wide variety of concerts, plays and special events are held at the 2,500-seat auditorium at The Centre, while outdoor concerts and special events are held at the 8,500-seat Mesker Amphitheatre on Evansville's west side. Larger concerts, sporting events and special events are held at the Ford Center, the newest multi-million dollar edition to the downtown cityscape. Performing arts are enjoyed best at the Victory Theatre, a historic and vintage-styled venue that is home to the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Each year, the orchestra presents a seven-concert classics series, special event concerts, as well as several educational and community outreach performances. The theatre is also the best place to experience local ballet, modern dance, and touring performing arts productions.

While hospitality and the arts are in no short supply in Evansville, neither is information about the city's historical roots. Take a trip to the Angel Mounds State Historic Site, Evansville's visitor centre. The centre helps paint a colourful picture of what life was like from 1100 to 1450, when Angel Mounds was the largest Native American community in Indiana. Visit the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, and Science, Evansville's top collection of American and European paintings, graphic and visual arts, and sculptures from the 16th to 20th centuries. The Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville, commonly known as cMoe, hosts four main galleries and a multimedia theatre, which offers interactive fun for the entire family.

Whether your trip is for business, leisure, or a family vacation to America's Midwest, Evansville is a destination sure to satisfy all of the above. For more information on visiting Evansville, go to evansvillecvb.org.
