Thank you Iberostar Mohjito for giving our girls, aged 7 and 4 such a perfect vacation! 8th time for myself in Cuba and my husband and I thought we would need to bring the hot sauce with us based on previous exprerience, however not needed for this resort! The staff were so friendly at the buffet (special thanks to Juan Carlos) and reception and the nightly entertainment dazzled our girls. It was very nice how they involved the girls and other kids stayng at the resort. we just went as we knew the beach was excellent based on staying at other resorts in Cayo coco and Cayo Guillermo however the food at this resort exceeded our expectations. Although we brought soy milk packs for the kids (and nutella for toast) as they can be fussy with different tastes there were lots of choices for them. Although the ambiance was great at the Italian restaurant (and service) we actually preferred the guy making the fresh pasta at the buffet restaurant! Definately want to return! We stayed on site at Disney for the past 2 years and my girls had just as much fun playing on the beautiful beach, enjoying the clean pool and again the great nightly enterainment, that before kids, my hubby and I usually passed on. I was dissapointed about the trip cost to Moron and would have went as it would have been a great experience for the girls but thought it was a bit high. Other than that a wonderful experence for all! Thanks again!

Great Beach. Rooms need to be upgraded. Resort staff were quite friendly. Housekeeping staff especially and did a great job each day cleaning and preparing the room. Food was passable in the Buffet. A la carte restaurant was pretty good except for the mosquitos (it is located in a saltwater marsh). Table service in the Lobby Bar left a lot to be desired. Cuban guests at the resort were quite rude and often horded food. Not much in activities for our teenage daughter. Nightly shows at the amphitheatre were pretty good.

The location, employees, beach, and overall service were excellent. The only draw-back were some rude Quebecers that were loud, obnoxious, and treated the employees poorly. Some of the pool staff were a little too involved with female customers during the day when families like ours were trying to enjoy the pool. Not a thing you want to explain to the kids. This was our second stay here and third time to Cuba. We would stay again but would really like to see the behaviour of both customers and employees monitored better.

I vacationed at the Iberostar Mojito in the first week of June 2013 and I would definitely return in the future. The entire resort was exceptionally clean, including my room, the pools and the beach. The buffet had a wide variety and everything was delicious especially the seafood! The beach is absolutely beautiful, you can walk for miles on silky white sand. I cannot say enough about the staff at the Iberostar Mojito, they were always very attentive and friendly and ensured your needs were met so that you would have the best possible vacation. My one and only complaint would be the mosquitos in the late afternoon and evening, however that is not the fault of the resort, just ensure you bring a good bug repellant. This vacation was one of the best and I would go back!!

This hotel appeared to be going through some overhaul when we arrived. Over the course of our vacation, the grounds were being worked on, and they installed a washroom closer to the beach. There is too little shade at the beach for the size of this resort. You need to get to the beach between 6 and 6:30 am to get shade. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. There is a bar at the beach. No food is offered. The beach is quite a walk from the resort. With the washroom being opened up nearby, the walk became less of an issue. The choices of food at this resort was not as plentiful as you would see in the Dominican or Mexico but what was offered was delicious and we had no complaints about the quality at all. The nightly entertainment was the best that we have seen during our various resort vacations. Lastly the staff at this resort were courteous and friendly. We would definitely recommend this resort.

My husband and I loved this hotel. It was exactly what we were looking for. We came from Vancouver, so it was more expensive then if you came from another city that flies their direct. We had lowered our expectations after reading about Cuba, but we still wanted to go and we were very happy when it was better then what we expected. We changed our room to 2125. It was the top floor, bright corner unit, view of the trees and slight view of the ocean, close to the adult pool, so it was quiet and had a separate walk way to the beach away from the main area. The food was way better then expected. NO, you are not going to find the same quality as back home as Vancouver has some of the best food in the world, but it was good. There is a pasta bar, a salad and fruit bar, the usual buffet section of foods in steamer trays, something different every night at the carving table and a fresh grill (which we preferred). At the fresh grill they had different fish and meats that you could have grilled in front of you. I wouldn't suggest the beef as it is tough, but the pork chops are great. Every 2 weeks they have 1 lobster night and that was definately the highlight. The entertainment was amazing and we made sure not to miss it. Still not sure how those dancers can move the way they do. I think they are double jointed. The beach is stunning. Water that is the same as a pool.If you venture outside the hotel to the real Cuba you will see the people have VERY LITTLE, so you are living in a bubble at the resort and should be thankful for the amount that is offered. Tip for what to bring. In our Country we give away without a thought what someone in Cuba may treasure for a lifetime. The people in the resorts have the most money, but still they can't buy some things because they just don't exist there or they are extremely hard to find. If you have some room to back tools you would be very popular. We had packed used clothes and toiletries and gave them away on our day trip to Trinidad.

We just returned from a very enjoyable week in Cuba. The beach in front of this hotel is the best in the area. It is cleaned and there are always lounging chairs and shade available. A beach bar and activities complete the picture perfect water. The rooms are simple but clean and they have an in-room safe and lots of hot running water. Now the staff... they are unbelievable. They are friendly, efficient and treat you like a real guest. A peso tip is always appreciated but never expected. We never had a problem getting a seat in any of the bars or restaurants and the line in the buffet was never too long. The evening shows were great. There was lots of choices of drink and the bartenders were not shy with the servings. The food was good and there was always lots to choose from. My husbands favourite meal was the red snapper served in the Italian a la carte restaurant which is one of three on the premises. I enjoyed the fact that there was always lots of vegetables and fruit and the fresh cheeses were amazing. There is not much to see in the area but if you are wanting a week of sun and the beach, this would be a good choice.

Upon arrival at the resort we were greeted with welcome cocktails and shown to our room. Resort is large, very clean and has extremely friendly staff! Beach is fabulous white sand lined with a fish filled coral reef several hundred meters off shore. Food at all the restaurants was great-and the buffet was surprisingly good as well (lots of fresh salad stuff for healthier eating!!) Alcoholic beverages are served STRONG-so you may have to request a little extra mix/juice!! We will definatly return to this resort when we choose Cayo Coco. We loved the beautiful beach and the friendly staff. The food was delicious. At first impressions we felt the resort was a three, that was only because our rooms appeared to be a little I need of an upgrade. It is a little bit of a walk to the beach, but it is the most beautiful beach we have ever been on. Great service, clean rooms, very good bar service, ample space at the pool, good evening shows, wonderful staff. There is an awesome lobster restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere just a few kilometres from the resort. It's called Playa Prohibida. very resonable for two people including beer Highly suggest checking it out.. This is our first holiday with West Jet Vacations and it will not be our last. From leaving Calgary till returning, every west jet employee was helpful, humorous, personal, efficient, and most of all seemed very happy to make our experience flying with them a great one. Thank you Westjet !!!!!

Enjoyed the very short bus drive from the airport to the resort. On arrival, the Iberostar Mojito reception staff handled everything quickly and efficiently. Our room, closets, mirror dresser and bathroom were good size and clean. Bedspreads and curtains need replacing, they are worn out. Had wonderful sunny weather the whole 11 days, however wind made it impossible to swim in the ocean...red flag for 7 days during our stay. Once wind subsided, we enjoyed swimming in the ocean, it was so warm and wavy. Beach is very beautiful...resort staff cleaned it up once wind subsided. Water is so many shades of green and blue, sky clear blue with occasional white fluffy clouds...a pleasure to walk and enjoy. All pools were very clean, water very cold on most days. Towel service very good, no delays when exchanging on daily basis. Food very good at the Sirena pool bar and the buffet....we always ate freshly grilled fish and meat. Good selection of yummy salads, vegetables, side dishes, fresh fruit, deserts. Bread is the best!!! All kinds, all so very good. Bacon is very good too. We also enjoyed many international drinks! Bar staff were accommodating to mix requested drinks. Cappuccino was great too!! We didn't go to any ala-cart dinners by choice All staff very much enjoy and appreciate receiving tips and presents. We went to yoga and aqua fit...both were fun. They also have many games and dancing troughout the day on the beach and by the pool. Cayo Coco was our 3rd Cuban destination (Varadero, Santa Maria). We love Cuban people, they are so warm and loving and happy...it is a pleasure to be with them for a while. We go to a different location each winter, this is the only reason we will most likely not go back. S, I / S Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

We stayed Jan 25- Feb 1,2012. This hotel is in the process of new management with Iberostar. The Emperador side is closed under renovations, they plan on being open sometime between May and August. We can certainly understand why there are so many repeat guests as we are planning on returning in April this year. Check In/ Reception Very smooth. Staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed in building 17 and my husbands parents in block 22. There is a money exchange here, but the exchange rate at the airport is much better. You have to buy an internet card which is $6 CUC for 1 hour. There was only 1 working computer and extremely slow. No Wifi. Rooms Our room was kept spotless by Yaquelin. We were on the 3rd floor and had an oceanview. The rooms on the upper floors do not have balconies, but the windows open wide. There is 2 double beds pushed together. Safe is included with the room so no need to purchase the safety deposit box. The villas section 22 and 23 have balconies. Restaurants There is 1 buffet and 3 a la cartes at the present time. There is only 1 specialty restaurant open per day at the moment while things are slow. The food was quite decent for Cuba. I have celiac and always found something. The specialty restaurants always had a choice as well and were very accommodating. The Cuban was our favorite. I also had the lobster dinner which was very good, and nothing like our Atlantic PEI lobster at the Seafood restaurant. The service was top notch. All nonsmoking Beach Beautiful, only a 3-5 minute walk from main resort. lots of loungers. there are sand fleas so bring some repellent. Had an amazing time, if we were to change just 1 thing would be to have no smoking in the disco bar if you are allergic or sensitive stay away. The staff are awesome and are the real jewel of this hotel.

This resort is rated a 3.5 star but in our many trips to Cuba staying primarily at 4 and 5 star resorts, this one is definitely one of the better ones we have stayed at. The food was very good in comparison to many other resorts we have visited. The buffet has lots to chose from and every night they have a carvery station. We had roasted chickens, turkey, pork and roast beef plus many other choices (chicken, fish etc.) that you can have prepared for you at the grill station. They had a good selection of fresh vegetables, salad options, cheeses and the breads were excellent. Of course breakfast was good with different types of eggs, bacon, pancakes. Basically all you could want. We did try both a'la'carte restaurants and found them to be very good. It is nice to have a sit down dinner rather than the buffet and the menu had good choices. For lunch we ate mostly at the snack bar where they served pizzas, hamburgers, calzones, pork chop. It was great for lunch. This resort is only half open which is ideal for us as we do not like larger resorts. We new prior to going that only 2 buildings had balconies so we requested a ground floor as we like to sit out. I had e-mailed the resort in advance and received a response in 30 minutes to advise they would do what they could. We were very pleased that we got a ground floor and our location. Maintenance was excellent. We experienced a problem with lights not working in our room. From the time we notified the front desk and the maintenance person arriving it was no more than 5 minutes. He had to replace some parts and was back again very quickly to do so. One of the servers that we had such a good experience with was Alexander from the pool area. He would take drink orders and deliver them right to your chair. We could not believe that he did this all day long with large trays of drinks covering 2 pools and knowing what everyone ordered. This was excellent service. If you get a chance to check out the Cigar Lounge do so. From Monday to Friday a band plays starting at 9:30 p.m. and they are so good The band is Tahiti. The young guy on the guitar would blow you away and they played a variety of music from the Stones, Eagles, etc. Well worth going. The check in was different for us as we had to complete forms with a bit of information which slowed down the process. If they had our ticket information and copied our passports, there would be no need to do this form but once completed, we received our room information quickly. I did find that the Animation team was very quiet in comparison to many resorts we had been at. We missed a pig roast unfortunately as we did not know it was going on. Better communication would have helped. Now for the beach, it was fantastic. Pure sand and great swimming in front of the resort. I would definitely recommend this resort for the beach, food, service. Unfortunately for us, if the resort gets too big, we probably would not return. But then again, you never know.

April 05- 16 2014. Nice resort. It was about a five minute walk to the beach across board walks, but worth the walk as the beach was beautiful. Snorkeled around the small reefs and saw lots of fish. By far!! the best beach of the 5 or 6 resorts in the area that we walked by. Lots of room (and chairs) even at high tide. The only problem was no shade. We would be at the beach around 8:00 am and all the chairs (maybe 100) in the sheltered areas were reserved with towels and all empty. What bothered us was that when we would leave at 12:00 or 1:00, there would still be at least 30 or 40 reserved and had not been used all morning. Same at the pool. We would have liked to use the pool but couldn't because all chairs were reserved at 7:00 when we went to breakfast and obvious when returning from beach at 1:00 that half of the chairs were still reserved and no one had used them all morning. Not many chairs and little shade at the pool. We were in block 14 on the third floor. Our maid was very nice and had the room clean by the time we got back from the beach. The room was large, bright, clean and the bed was comfortable. A/C work great. Old TV with a speaker that didn't work well. Really didn't use it much but,,, some rooms we walked by had new flat screens. The only thing we missed was a balcony. Not many rooms had them. Food was OK. Tried the beef twice, but tough. Pork, fish and pasta were good. Pool bar for lunch was our choice. Calzones, pizza, grilled pork, pasta of the day were all good. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants. Service was excellent, food and presentation in the international and gourmet was excellent. Italian food was just ok. Breakfast was good, enjoyed omelets, pancakes, french toast. No potatoes of any kind at breakfast. Missed that. "Crispy Bacon" was disgusting. Looked like they cooked it over a candle for 20 or 30 seconds. Fruit smoothies were excellent. Enjoyed walking around the property. Gardeners do an excellent job and were friendly. Most (not all) of the staff were friendly and helpful. Had a great time at the Cigar Lounge. The band played classic rock and were good. The young guy playing lead guitar was excellent. We had a good time and were happy with our vacation. Not being able to have some shade and the unused reserved chairs would be our only complaint. We have been to other resorts in Cuba and could always find a chair in the shade somewhere.

I consider myself a fair and just reviewer and being familiar with Cuba had reasonable expectations. I also understand that Iberostar had only recently taken possession of this property thus the bugs (not literally) that need 'ironing out". It is a nice location (not too far from the airport) and the second stop. The lobby was quite impressive, the roof an upside-down version of the hull of a glass- bottomed boat. The stained glass windows were interesting. Was that Canada geese? Nonetheless, I was not impressed with the decor of the grounds, rusted out slabs of concrete and a largely deserted area of lagoon rooms. The long walk to the beach was at first unpleasant but gradually became a non-issue. As first time visitors, we noticed the marked difference on how guests were received and treated. There seemed to be no consistency. We would have appreciated being greeted on our arrival with a "hello" or a welcome drink as some were. While we found the staff accommodating for the most part, there was not a feeling of being welcomed to the "family" as returning guests were often referred .It is a great place for families, and large groups who tend to overpower every sector of the resort. We highly commend the staff (maids, servers, gardeners) for their hard work and would not detract from their diligence with criticism. ROOM Our room was suitably located (BLOCK 20 - other reviewers recommendations), clean and spacious although a bit run down. Loved the beds and had great sleeps (although the sun, salt and sangria helped). ENTERTAINMENT Was beyond excellent for this resort. The shows were entertaining and masterfully executed. The hosts and dancers made the evenings enjoyable accompanied by wonderful breezes. FOOD "La Sirena' pool bar had a nice selection of pizza, calzones, roast chicken and grilled sea bass. The beach bar, hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. "La Portales' the main buffet served the usual interesting mix of yesterdays leftovers but the grills provided french toast, pancakes, omelettes for breakfast and grilled chicken, fish, beef and pork for dinner. Usually a line up and keep your pesos handy for tipping. We tried both a la cartes. The food at EL Malecon was nothing special but a change from the buffet. The second one "El Gallo" offered seafood and italian (but only on specific nights and you are not told which is when). We ordered the red snapper and was presented with sea bass. When we questioned, the waiter admitted it was not snapper and offered another meal (which did not include red snapper). I thought it a bit dishonest to offer something on a menu that was not available and subsequently NOT inform the diner that it was not available than present it hoping we did not notice. BEACH The beach was quite beautiful with fine white sand. What spoiled our trip was that neither adequate chairs or shaded areas were available. Guests would reserve prime spots (very early in the mornings) with their towels, childrens toys, t-shirts and books and disappear for hours. The signs stating "no reserva" were poignantly ignored by many and not enforced by the hotel.Unfortunately hotels cannot enforce common decency and consideration. Apparently returnees have some priority over all other guests and are allowed to flagrantly disregard the basic courtesies when visiting other countries. DISCO The DJ at the disco prefers playing his favorites instead of what his clientele would enjoy. It was mostly techno/house with a little "cotton eyed joe" and Eurymythics "Sweet dreams" thrown in. Play some nice Cuban songs mixed in with some contemporary. Wonder why few people dance or seem to enjoy the experience? TRIPs We took the catamaran tour and were satisfied with the timing and sites. Don't be fooled by the offer of "lobster lunch". Its mediocre but did the job. Were able to see some lovely fish at the two snorkelling sites and I loved the fact that the breathing tubes were non reusable. Pilar beach is beautiful and well worth a day trip. Be prepared to rent chairs (2 cuc) and buy drinks. The crew were great and Jesus entertained us in some innovative musical ways. I would not recommend this hotel chain or this resort until another year or so when hopefully they will have refurbished, added a nice piano bar or other entertainment in the lobby and begin treating each guest, new or old, with the same courtesies. I would also NOT recommend booking with AIR CANADA VACATIONS (that is whole other story not related to a hotel review).

We just returned from 2 weeks at this resort. (April 8 2014). We booked with another couple. At check in we were told we could not be in same building and could not be off the ground..."Not possible". But with a tip of 5ccu each, we got the same building, 2nd floor and just 2 doors down from each other. The rooms were clean, large and the beds were comfortable. Staff were very friendly and out going. We met several people who have stated this was their 3-4 trip to this resort. Meals were Great, the usual pasta/pizza station , carving station, and grill to order, salad, sandwich and desert bar areas. Separate lunch area by the pool was also Delicious and hot! ! Especially loved the fresh sugar doughnuts made each morning at breakfast. The beach sand was clean and the water had a few visible coral/rock formations. Were the fish could be seen without going out into deep water. The entertainment staff (Adrian, Lez, Diana ) always had us playing games and the evening shows were the best we have seen in our other 4 trips to Cuba. Pool bartender (Alexander) continued to walk around and remembered our drinks. Would definitely return to this resort.

We just returned from the Mojito Apr 5-12 for the first time, our second time in Cuba. We had an amazing time, we definitely want to return someday! All of the positive things about the staff, food, beach have been said already in other reviews. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone, but just wanted to add especially to any families travelling with children. We travelled with our 4 year old daughter. We were surprised at how great their kids club was, and all of the activities planned for kids. I've never experienced a kids club before, and was not even considering it actually, but Amarylis who runs the program was amazing, really caring and professional, and every night there is a "minidisco" where the kids get to go up on stage and dance, etc. My daughter loved it, all the kids loved it so much and had so much fun. I'm vegetarian and my daughter can be picky, so I found the buffet perfect, there is so much to choose from. My husband loves meat and just loved all of the choice there too. We loved the walks along the boardwalks over the lagoon to the beach. So beautiful and so many interesting little creatures to look at in the lagoon. One of the recent reviews commented on the lack of shopping, but just a reminder about the public market La Gaviota that is not far, I think 500m away! We walked there along the side of the road, but you can catch a bus out front going there, or one of the horse carriages. Lots of merchandise from local artisans selling their wares. We took a horse carriage back from the market to the Mojito for only 2 pesos each, I think that was the highlight of the trip for my daughter. The only negative incident that comes to mind of the whole trip had nothing at all to do with the resort-from a fellow tourist. On the way there on the bus ride from the airport, there was an obnoxious guy being super rude, apparently he'd been there many times, he was complaining about being a few minutes late, demanding free beer because of it, and then proceeded to heckle the bus tour guide the whole time, even making fun of Cuban accents, etc. Basically being abusive. I felt sorry for his wife. It was so awkward, embarassing, and not funny. Luckily, everyone else we encountered on the trip was I'm guessing he was just as much of a jerk in Canada, but the only reason I'm posting this is a general reminder to everyone please be respectful of all the staff and those around you and don't leave your manners at the border! Anyone with kids reading these reviews trying to choose a resort like I was..don't think anymore, book the Mojito and have a wonderful time!
