Everyone who vacations should see Cayo Coco. The TRYP resort is one of the top 3 on Cayo Coco. I only go to TRYP. I take my (now) teenage son, daughter, their repsective friends, my 85 year old DAD! The employees of this resort are exceptional people. When I got off the bus at the lobby, I was greeted by my first name by Eduardo! How is that for SERVICE! You can go fishing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking. There's a beach bar and beach restaurant. If you like wine with your meal, you do not have to ask at the main restaurant. The servers are astute and they bring you the wine you prefer (red or white). You can visit the town, Moron, and there are great art works to be had there....wood carvings, paintings, purses...and all the old vechicles to be seen as nowhere else in the world! You must go and see for yourself.

From the moment we arrived at the TRYP to our departure we received high quality, friendly service from all of the staff members. Buffet and a la carte (International & Oriental) dining was a pure pleasure. With all aspects of service provided by staff, the efforts were quick as well accommodating. Service alone rates a five star. The menu’s in both a la carte’s was very close to that in many similar type and style restaurants here in Canada (some of my favorites: Earls, Tony Roma, Joey’s and The Keg). There is great food selection as well as a number of choices that will accommodate many. The meals at this resort were a dining pleasure. Best of all, plentiful, great tasting, the variety and selection was just amazing, no person should ever go hungry or thirsty unless by personal choice! Our room was ideally located for us (1036), a small view of the ocean as well very quiet. While the amenities of the room are showing their age, they were working well. In general the resort has a tired aged appearance. It needs a patch & repair program followed by a detailed painters brush. The beach is one reason for my visit alone. Just amazing!

This was our second visit to the TRYP, some of the buildings have become very tired and could use some repairs and a lick of paint, we return for the stunning beach and the amazing, friendly Staff who are very service orientated. Upon arrival to our room we really appreciated the bottle of rum and flowers, what a nice touch. Block 10 is close to the quiet pool and hot tub and also has its own mini bar; this is great if you are a pool person and want some peace and quiet. The beach area between the dive center and Iberostar Mojito hotel is quiet; unfortunately we kept getting whiffs of gasoline fumes every time the glass bottom boat and motor boat carrying scuba divers went by. The Pizza joint was shut down due to low season, that area of the beach was quiet and private. The weather was fantastic during our stay, there was the odd rain shower and a wee bit of thunder and lightning, but nothing to deter from beach time. I would recommend bringing a yoga mat for your comfort, because most of the blue fabric beach loungers are gone. The temperature of the turquoise ocean was like warm bath water, sometimes the ocean was smooth like glass or, had gentle waves, I really recommend bringing a floatie or, air mattress; so much fun and really enjoyable. Our room always had a nice smell from our aromatherapy diffuser and oils. My Husband lit mosquito repelling coils outside of our room door and sealed the gap under our door with duct tape so no bugs could get in; worked like a charm. The food was absolutely delicious and can accommodate any palate unless of course you are used to eating at McDonalds or, have Gordon Ramsey as your personal Chef. There is an old goat that provides rides; that poor animal was hauling, over 400 lbs. At the TRYP you can get involved in the many activities or, rest and relax; something for everyone. The Taxi to and from the airport is 15 CUC’s, but some drivers will try to get 20 CUC's, so make sure your price is set.

This hotel and staff were absolutely fabulous! We had an incident with our room and the staff dealt with the situation with speed, and they upgraded our room, moved us and were so apologetic! They handled it with class! The beach was incredible, water was clean and warm. Sand was silky between your toes. Oh...just describing this makes me want to go right back again! I would recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a family, quiet, positively comfortable vacation. Any staff you saw, no matter where on the resort, were smiling, greeted you with "Ola" and waved. What a welcoming environment. I talked to many visitors from all over the world at this resort and asked why they picked this resort, and Cuba in general, over other choices and their response was the complete package, sand, sun, staff and resort. Many come to this resort repeatedly and I can see why. I would go back there in a heartbeat!

Used to be a four star resort but the rooms are degrading over the years with little in the way of upgrades or maintenance. Our toilet would not flush the paper away, and the tank took more than five minutes to refill. The air conditioning didn't work for 3 of our 7 nights making for uncomfortable sleeps. Most of the staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms were very clean and the food was great with lots of variety. The weight room is cramped and the equipment is dated, but most of it is functional. Pools and the beach are fantastic.

The location was great. Liked the fact that it was a 15 minute ride from the aeroport. Checkin was quick. Room was ready shortly after we arrived. We ate most of our meals at the buffet. Food was good with lots of variety. Crepes with bananas and cinnamon are a great way to start the day! Staff were always friendly and helpful. The pool was very nice, lots of shade or sun if you wanted. The beach is the star of this resort. Miles of beautiful white sand, lots of chairs. Rooms are out of date. They haven't changed since Beds were extremely hard (didn't sleep well all week) and apparently this is a uniform throughout the resort, not just our room. There is a natural lagoon close to the beach that is very malodorous (smells like a garbage dump). It is located beside/under La Barcaza restaurant and was behind our room (817) so it was unbearable for us to sit outside. An occasional waft of noxious odour would reach where we sat near the pool. The obvious solution to this is to aerate the lagoon. If you go off the resort to Pilar Beach, you will pass a lot of areas with lagoons and the smell is the same so the odour on the resort is not garbage but natural decay in the water. Would I go back? In a heartbeat if they replaced the beds.

This was out 8th trip to Cuba and based on previous visits we would rate this resort as a 3 star at best. We purchased the VIP Package which guaranteed a superior oceanview room, 6 restaurant reservations, a private check in, a bottle of rum and a private lobster dinner. Well, we did get a private check in but then had to wait more than an hour for our room to be ready. When we arrived at the room we found someone fixing the AC as well as some ceiling lights. If this room was a 'superior' room I hate to see a standard room. The floor tiles were covered in paint drippings, the tub was rusty, the chrome on the faucets was worn off, the painted vanity was peeling and the furniture had seen better days. The room had 2 double beds, each with one 50" long pillow. As it is difficult to share a pillow, my wife and I slept in different beds. To top off our start, we found that there was no hot water. When we called customer service we were told that more than half of the resort was out of hot water due to a broken pipe. Well it took more than a day to finally get hot water. The view from the room was great and we did get our bottle of rum as well as reservations to the 6 restaurants. On our second day we had our lobster dinner. It consisted of a very large lobster tail with the meat covered in a very salty brown sauce which looked like a beef gravey. The sauce was so salty as to make the meal almost inedible. Meals at the oriental and Italian restaurant were very good. Breakfasts and lunches in the buffet restaurant were also good. After having seafood at the beach BBQ I did get an upset stomach and had to stay close to a washroom. As for the grounds, they have seen better days except for the flower beds at the front entrance. The pathways are falling aparts with many holes. Ladies, if you come to this resort do not wear high heels. Also be prepared to be going up and down steps everywhere. Main pool is very noisy but there is a quiet pool.

I have been to Tryp many times. I love the hotel, the food and the staff. The one downfall was the ignorance of the new general manager. It's sad that he doesn't care (and makes it known) about repeat clients. I go to this hotel approximately 5 weeks throughout the year, this is the first time I didn't get my regular room. He has no personality and should not be in the hospitality business. Please bring back a manager like Vito or Alberto! The beach - crystal clear water, white powder sand The food - tasty and fresh, large assortment The staff - amazing and welcoming It's sad that one man can go in and upset so many people!

We were assigned to building 4 and our friends to building 12. Had to wait in the lobby till 4:30 pm before our room ready! Variety of food at Main Buffet, not as good as we had remembered. Service at main bar not as good as we remembered. Nightly stage entertainment very basic and repetetive of years gone by and not quite so professional. Our compliments to the biggest percentage of staff whose cheerfull disposition and service made our stay most welcome. Great location! We love Tryp Cayo Coco and have gone each November for the past three years. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and accomodating. The rooms could use some updating but, that said, they are still comfortable and contain everything you really need. The food is very good, especially in the a la carte restaurants and the beach restaurant. When I was there, the beach had been "reduced" a bit by Hurricane Sandy, but it was still beautiful - plus you can walk to either of the Tryp's "sister" hotels and use their facilities too! Not planning to head back to Cuba anytime soon but when I do I hope the Colonial Blau is still there, that's where I'll stay. Hats off to Ivan with WestJet in Cayo Coco! Great representative!!! This past October was the second time at Tryp for 2 weeks. I was surprised at how much the beach washed away over the years but is still nice. Everything was clean but "dated" and was fine by me...after all you are on vacation and want to feel away. Most of the staff were great...a few a the front desk could be a little more friendly. I enjoyed the food. The only thing that may stop me from going back is there were a LOT of French Canadians at the hotel and I think there was more French spoken at the resort than English and Spanish...a few of the staff greeted me in French...would much rather Spanish or English (they do know how to speak Spanish or English and it is Cuba). My flight home was canceled...so I was moved over to the hotel next door (Hotel Colonial). There are poor past reviews...but they were probably in the middle of the owner/management change as the new team seems to care about there guest and want your stay to be the best it could be. The resort is much nicer from the outside to the inside. It was very quiet and clean the 2 days I got to stay there. Not many guest (I'm sure once people see the new management it will liven up)and not as lively but perfect to relax...Found a new hotel for me! Felt in Cuba! Very pleased I was able to stay there!...just not long enough! Tryp is a nice hotel too and I recommend only because of some of the staff.

One of our worse vacations. We are frequent travellers to Cuba but this was by far our worse vacation. The room was atrocious. Huge cockroaches in the bathroom every night, stained bed covers and bedsheets, the fridge was rusty and the furniture really worn out. The toilet would not flush on the first try (we had to flush it 3 times) and the towels were always stained. The door would not close properly and creatures would crawl in the room. We had a crab crawling over us in bed and that freaked us out. The food was OK so no complaint there. We could not book the Ala Carte restaurants we wanted because they were either fully booked or not functional. The beach is one of the worse. Very narrow and completely covered by water for half day. The restaurant staff was mostly interested in getting tipped so if you didn't, they would completely ignore you. The cooks and the bar staff were OK. Entertainment team was OK. Many rooms in the resort are closed for renovation so there was a lot of banging noise. Nobody notified us about these issues so our vacation turned out to be not that great. By far the worse Cuban experience. Will never go back. We were a bit upset that the WestJet agents were not able to notify us about the construction that was going on, the outdated rooms and the cockroach infestation which is a real health hazard. We have booked most our prior vacations with Air Canada Vacations and Transat Holidays and they were always telling us what to expect.

We took our 5 year old and 22 month old sons to Cuba in Dec with Westjet. Our stroller was gate checked and didn't arrive with us at the destination until a few days later. We paid to upgrade to a suite at the hotel, which was well worth the small amount that we paid. The views were awesome, we had a great balcony and a separate room for the kids and a gigantic bathroom with a jacuzzi tub big enough for all 4 of us! The food there was OK, our little guy ended up being sick after a week, some severe gastrointestinal illness that carried on for about a month after our trip. Other than that, the vacation was a dream. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, the staff were very friendly. Any concerns were dealt with courteously and quickly. We had a great time, and once we had all of our stuff packed up and headed down to the beach, my husband and I could truly relax and just watch the kids play in the sand and the shallow water. My one major tip for the way home - pay the $20 and do the VIP lounge at the airport! We had real VIP service and felt like royalty! Thanks to westjet for having the personal tv's so my kids could be entertained on the 2 - leg journey to and from Edmonton AB. We are planning another trip back to Cayo Coco very soon!

Wow this resort surpassed all our expectations and we had an amazing time!!! We are a family of 3 ? DH (37), myself (36) and dd (8) travelled to the Tryp Cayo Coco from Saskatoon via Toronto using Westjet Vacations. The Room We were in Room 534, which was a perfect location on the 2nd floor. The AC worked great, the room was always clean, an abundance of fresh towels. The Pool & Beach Hands down one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been to. For sure the nicest one we ever experienced in Cuba. Tons of chairs, soft warm sand, gorgeous water. The pool was huge, clean, tons of chairs ? and good lounge chairs. The Food We ate at almost all of the a la cartes. The International (loma azul) was very good. I especially enjoyed the BBQ and the Asian restaurants. The snack bar & pizza hut were our favorite lunch go tos. The pizza was phenomenal and so extra fun eating on our lounge chair on the beach. As well there is a grill next to the Cuban lunch a la carte that grilled fab burgers and hot dogs. Overall thoughts & a few tips The lobby bar is a great evening hang out place and the chairs can fill up but we were always able to eventually get a spot but if it is a high season time you may have greater difficulty. The drink service in the lobby varied. The kids mini disco that was put on each night at 8:30 was a huge hit for our DD.

Travel dates: April 6th-12th First off, I will preface this to say that this was my first time travelling down south. However, there was 4 others in my party that have travelled down pretty much yearly for the last 10+ years. We booked the Superior Oceanview Room through Sunwing for a few extra dollars, and it was well worth it. Upon check-in, all 6 of us (3 rooms) were bumped up to suites for unknown reason, needless to say, we were quite happy about that. Rooms I didn't see any of the regular rooms, just the suites, and they were fantastic. 2 rooms plus a bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub. The "sitting" rooms in each of the suites had minor differences like bigger/smaller coffee tables, chairs, etc, but they were all quite comfortable. The sitting room also had a bar fridge that was stocked with 2 beer and 3 soft drinks that was re-stocked daily (tip: before leaving in the morning, stuff un-used beer into your luggage so the fridge gets refilled. this is an all-inclusive, but sometimes its nice having a can of beer in your room in the evenings). Also in the sitting room is another TV that we never turned on, and why would you, but its nice that it was there. Very spacious area. The bedroom section had a king size bed, a couple of night stands, chairs, flat screen tv, closet with 2 safes (1 didn't work), ironing board, umbrella (nice touch), slippers, bath robe and extra blanket if you need it. Bathroom was nice as well, standard hair dryer, jacuzzi bathtub with shower attachment. There were two balcony entrances, one in the sitting room and one in the bedroom, the balcony was nice, 4 chairs, a table, and a somewhat obstructed view of the ocean, which wasn't an issue as we were still getting the ocean breeze to keep us cool. We were on the 2nd floor, but the view from the 3rd (top) floor was excellent. The room was very clean, like exceptionally. No issues with that whatsoever. There was only 1 night that we found a bug, and it was because my girlfriend left a glass of sparkling white wine out overnight, and some critter found its way into it and died a quick drunken death. Other than that, nothing. The maids did an excellent job during the week, and we noticed after check out that they spent a very long time on our rooms, like probably almost an hour. From outside I saw them cleaning all the windows and even sweeping and cleaning the balcony. Quite impressed with the detail they put into their work. Power Outlets As stated above, I only seen the suites. In our rooms, almost every plug was a hybrid plug that accepted both the cuban plug (2 circular prongs) and the north american (two vertical plugs). However, beware that the power provided is 220V. If you're bringing a laptop, tablet or cell phone, you can plug these right into the wall as they generally support 110V-250V (read the markings on the adapter itself), my girlfriend's hair straightner was also supported. My father's electric razor, however, was not and he didn't think to check before he plugged it in (bye bye razor). So, you will not need to bring an adaptor with you (though never a bad idea), but you may need to bring a voltage converter with you if whatever your bringing doesn't support 220V. Food I will admit, I'm a very picky eater, and this was the one thing I was worried about and giving me anxiety about this trip. I read all the reviews on people complaining about the food in Cuba, and on this resort. After spending a week there, I got to say, the food was well beyond my expectations, and often fantastic. First, because we had suites, we had access to the A-la-carte restaurants I believe 5 different nights. I only went to 3, the International, Italian and BBQ. I wasn't that impressed with the international, but others in my party enjoyed it. The BBQ one was decent, got a good steak there, but the 'roasted potatoes' side was like half a potatoe and the rest other veggies. I really enjoyed the Italian restaurant, it was great. My girlfriend went to the Oriental, and thought it was great. For me, the best was the Buffet. I admit, I had a certain idea on what the buffet would be, and I was thinking cafeteria-style food, massivly produced and not very good. However, i was thoroughly impressed with it. There are several stations setup for made-to-order things like pasta, burgers and pizza, and the food changes daily. Its open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I believe anyone can find something they would like there. There is also a dessert station that I admit I went to more often that I should have. For someone who is picky, I had no issues with the food on this resort. There is also a nice little pizza "hut" (no, not that one) just off the beach on the west end of the beach that had some nice pizza's as well, with a nice view of the ocean and not very busy when we went a few times. Look, you won't find "fine dining" here, but for me, it kept me fed during the week, and that's all I was looking for. Drinks/Bars There's plenty of places to get your drinks, and the selection seemed pretty good. There was only 1 beer on tap (not sure of what brand), but it was much better than I anticipated. I'm a beer drinking, and tend to lean more towards 'craft' brews, but this beer was "good enough" for the week, and I enjoyed it. I'm not sure how the selection was of liquor, but it looked pretty good. There is a bar by the quiet pool which is open until 5pm, another one on the beach that I never went to, so I'm unsure what time it closes. A 24 hour bar near the entertainment stage, another bar in the lobby, and of course the restaurants and buffet have drinks. My suggestion is to bring an insulated travel mug with you, like a thermos. I used an 18 Oz one and I found it perfect. Kept my beer cold while lazing around on the beach with the sun blazing on it while half buried in the sand. Make sure its got a good seal when closing, as its quite easy for sand to get in there. Staff Simply, the staff were amazing. Every single person I met went out of their way to say hello (¡hola) to us. Whether it be servers, bartenders, maids, security or grounds keepers. Everyone is so friendly. It doesn't seem like they are friendly because they have to be, or for tips or whatever, it genuinely feels like want to be friendly with you, to chat, shake your hand, meet a new friend. That's the vibe I got from the people. Even when we took some scooters out on the highway away from the resort, people still seemed quite friendly on the street. The first day we ate in the Buffet, our server (named Fidel) found a table for us, and each day after that, he came up to us as soon as we came through the door and showed us to our table and had our drinks ready by the time we gathered our food. It was like he had the table reserved for just us, which was great and made the experience so enjoyable. Hotel Grounds/Beach The grounds were well taken care of, everything looked so beautiful each day, the grounds keepers did a great job. The beach was amazing, and from our walks up and down the beaches seeing resorts nearby, the beach in front of the Tryp is the best one in the area. My parents went on a day trip to another resort in a different area and also stated that our beach was better. Most of the action goes on down on the central/west end of the beach where the beach bar is. However, here's a tip, if you get your spot up on the east end of the beach near the diving center, the quiet pool bar is just a short walk away from the beach to get your refills. There are 2 pools on the resort. One is the massive main pool near the lobby, you can't miss it. It looks quite beautiful, and it seemed like during the day it was the "party" center of the resort. Lots of loud music, lots of people around, day activities, swim up bar, etc. However, we weren't there for a party, we were there to relax, so we spent most of our afternoons at the "quiet" pool on the east end of the resort. This was so much more relaxed, not over crowded, no loud music, etc. I like that this hotel caters to both sides of the vacation experience, as we were quite happy with this setup. Entertainment We didn't participate in any of the day time entertainment as we spent our mornings on the beach, and afternoons at the quiet pool. However, by the sounds of it, there were lots of day time activities at the main pool, I just can't comment on them. The night time entertainment at the stage was great, we were quite impressed. First there's a half hour kids show, which was pretty much the same thing each night with kids participating, but that's fine, we all know kids can do the same thing day in and day out for a very long time without getting bored. The later entertainment consisted mostly of dancing, singing, and on a few nights activities with crowd involvment. It was a nice way to kill an hour or 2 in the evening. One night, there was the aquatic balet which was absolutely fantastic, they did a great job. Complaints Look, i'm usually a pretty cranky person, and will complain about just about anything. But, after a full week at Tryp, I have very little to complain about. The only thing that really stuck out to me was the front desk staff. I found them very short, rude, and absolutely none of the friendly attitude I found from every other employee on the resort. I don't know why they were like this, but it really stood out. The resort is a bit dated, but not in a bad way. For example, our room's decoration seemed like it was right out of the 80's, but we found it quite charming. Others may have a problem with it, we definitely did not. Other parts, like the bathroom, felt quite modern. Conclusion If you haven't been to Tryp Cayo Coco and are looking to plan a vacation, I highly recommend this place. Do yourself a favour, splurge a little and get an upgraded room, its well worth it. I will definitely return again at some point, it was a great week with great memories. Note: If anyone who has been there knows the name of the song that is "very popular on the resort", please tell me, its been stuck in my head since we left. And not the baseball song, the other one.

Had a great time at Tryp.. Nice resort, nice pool, great food! But the entertainment crew are really what makes it a great time.. Danny is the master of all shows and games, he is great at getting the crowd involved and making sure everyone has a great time! He is also an amazing MC and makes the nightly shows a blast! All of the entertainers do a great job.. But of all the resorts I've been too, Danny really is a step ahead of the rest ! I will definitely return!

We went back to Tryp again the last wk. of mar. 1st. wk. of april/2014. This was our 28th. vac. to Tryp since 1994. Yes the hotel is showing it's age now; but you can't find nicer & more friendly staff. Over the years we have had acouple small issues with our room but they were taken care of in a timely fashion. We find the food quite good. They are trying to update the rooms as fast as the can without disruption on a large scale. When you are open24/7--365 days a year it's hard to get anything done. I;am sure the new manger William will be very good for this resort & guests. We have made many personal friends of the staff over the years & their families. If you go to Tryp knowing it is not a 5 star Canadian hotel you will enjoy yourselves.
