We had a wonderful time at the resort. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The beach, food, extra tours offered, bar facilities, and entertainment were excellent. Think we all would go back if the opportunity arose.

My wife, 11 year old son and I spent Jan 21-31 at this resort. We absolutely loved it and plan to return very soon. We stayed in tower B, two double beds, good air conditioning, flat screen tv with tons of channels, nice bathroom and very large balcony. The food was very good to excellent. Great jerk chicken, breakfasts were awesome with omelete / egg station, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes etc. Always lots of selection. Hot foods kept hot and cold foods kept cold. Pasta station in evening was very good. Tried all three a la carte's, all were very good with good service. Book them early in your stay. Beach grille was very good, awesome jerk chicken, burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, etc. Waterpark was awesome, our son spent hours on the slides and in the lazy river. Had a "main pool" where zumba, beer olympics, etc was held daily. Had two other pools with a swim up bar between that were quieter. Resort was very nice, clean, grounds were well kept. The beach was raked clean by hand every morning. Water was clear, with sea grass not too far out. This is not the fault of the resort. Lots of people snorkeling. Four bars on the property, all served good drinks and will put as much alcohol as you want. Red Stripe and Red Stripe light on tap. Bartenders were all really friendly. Entertainment was very good. Steel drum band is not to be missed. Most shows were good, and they included the kids for many shows, which was nice. The kids all seemed to have a great time. This resort is geared toward families, and ours had a great time. There were quiet areas if you wanted them too. It is a 3 1/2*, but is much nicer than 4 or 4 1/2* resorts we have been to in the past. Overall had a great time. We don't often return to a resort, but will return here.

Three of us stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in January and had a great time!! Our room was directly across from the waterslides and although it wasn't luxurious by any stretch, it was clean and comfortable and suited our needs just fine. We spent most of our time at the swim up pools and found them to be very clean. We did tip occasionally but I didn't feel expected to at all. I'd say the beach was only okay - there's a long stretch of it, but it was a little rocky and narrow. We booked our a la cartes in advance by emailing the resort and that went off without a hitch. We ate at the Asian restaurant - fantastic!!!! Great service, great food - amazing!!! And also at the Italian restaurant - also very good! The service here was also great - we loved the little bar outside of the restaurant to have pre-dinner drinks as well. The only dissapointment that night was one of us ordered the lasagna and they didn't like it - but do you go to Jamaica expecting to have good lasagna - I hope not!! The rest of our portions were big enough to share that none of us left hungry!! The buffet was also very good, with pasta and omlette stations, and lots to choose from - I don't know who couldn't find something - and I'm totally a picky eater!! We didn't really watch the shows - tried a couple of nights, but wasn't really into them, so chose to leave and sit in the lobby. Each night there was a bus that took you to a bar off the resort - mostly Margarittaville. This was free and would also pick you up at 2 am to bring you home. I have to say, we felt completely safe on the hip strip, in the clubs and even stopped one night to pick up some jerk chicken roadside (best jerk chicken of our lives!!!) - we had a blast every night we went out! We were pleasantly surprised with this resort based on some of the other comments we'd read before going, but figured we could have fun no matter where we went - and we did!! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends or to return myself!

We went in May 2012 and renewed our vows after 30yrs. I can't believe how they outdid themselves in doing all the arrangements. The hotel service was fantastic - rooms cleaned and anything extra asked for was promptly given. The spa was a great relaxing time. Wait staff - bar staff and front desk were beyond reproach. I would highly recommend this hotel. We are going back around the same time in 2013. Good time had by all.

Our first impression of the resort was not good as I booked back in February for November travel. I paid the extra to have a beach front cabana (which I highly recommend) and we were put in the tower with no explaination. When I went back to the front desk I was told there was a booking error & the cabana room that I reserved 9 months earlier was overbooked. I was not happy - would they have left me in the tower had I not gone back and asked?? After close to an hour of discussion with rude counter staff they took me to the guest services Manager who proceeded to tell me that they were not over booked but the room had been renovated and the repairs were not quite completed. ??? Anyway she ended up compensating us with extra a la carte meals. Our first night in the tower was not up to par as I could not unpack and we had to root through the suitcase to find swim suits, sandles, sunscreen.... inconvenient to say the least. We had to check out of our tower room the next morning which left us roomless for about 4 hours, another inconvenience. Now for the good. Once we got into our cabana room our vacation took a turn for the better. I strongly recommend the cabana rooms with a walk-out to the beach. The resort is huge and there is lots to do. My kids, 9 and 6, absolutely loved the water park and the kids club. Kids are signed into the kids club and you can feel safe as they must be signed out to leave. I felt very safe inside the resort as the resort is gated and I did see security out and about (but not overwhelming). Make sure to bring a white t-shirt for 'family t-dye'. Food is average. They have self serve fountain pop and ice cream. Anything you want to do within the resort, you go to recreation counter and ask. They will provide towels, golf clubs for mini putt, tennis rackets, ping pong rackets..... There is a washing machine & dryer but I suggest you bring detergent as the soap is $3, the softener is $3 and $5 to use machine.

my stay at Sunset beach resort and waterpark was overall a pleasant one. The occasional activites provided were ok but i found myself looking for more beach activities that never came. most of the water activities were in the pool as the beach left a lot to be desired. venturing 2 feet out into the water would leave you mired in seaweed and mud. most of the guests spent their time in the pool was a very dissappinting considering that the beach is one of the main attraction in the Caribbean. The location of the hotel from major shopping areas was also not ideal. The hotel staff made up for any shortcomings that the holel presented. they were very courteous and helpful. the variety of food was great however if you are a late eater forget it as the restaurants would shut down by 9:00 pm. i would definitely go back.

We travelled January 4, 2010. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunset Spa and Resort in Ironshore for a week. The staff on the grounds were excellent people, friendly, helpful and kind. The beach was okay, the pools I did not visit. As a vegan I think they could cator more for us. I only drank red wines from Canada, they were also excellent! Our room was well kept and the ladies did any excellent job. The facilities and grounds were well kept. The front desk staff could have been more warm, some tried and were courteous. There was access to JUTA transportation at all times. Overall I gave this trip a ten and I am going back maybe to another location but definately to Jamaica...

I wanted a quick get-away, we were only going for 4 days. This hotel was very close to the airport, which was great due to time constraints. My daughter was 8 at the time and this was the perfect resort for her; they had water slides, a water park with a pirate's ship and a lazy river. The beach, although small, was beautiful powder white sand and crystal clear waters. If you are looking for a quick, affordable family trip, I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

My husband and our two kids, ages 13 and 10, as well as my husband's brother and his girlfriend (both in their mid-20's) stayed at the Sunset from June 8th to 13th. We all had a blast! The snorkeling is great right off of the beach. We saw puffer fish, a ton of star fish, conch shells and a whole bunch of very colorful fish. We brought our own snorkels so we could go anytime we wanted. The beaches are long and there were plenty of chairs and shaded spots. The food was great. Breakfast was by far our favorite with the omelets and french toast. Yum!! My husband and kids thought lunch got a little repetitive but still managed to sit down with a full plate every afternoon. I thought lunch was great but I always think that when I don't have to make and clean up the meal. We tried out all three of the specialty restaurants and the Italian was by far our favorite. Plan on a good 1 1/2 to 2 hours for dinner at the restaurants. There was a beach BBQ while we were there that was a ton of fun for everyone. My 10-year-old participated in all the contests and even took part in the balancing act put on by the entertainment crew. We never waited in line long for drinks at any of the bars. The Beach Bar was our favorite at the end of the beach by the topless section. It was not crowded at all that far down from the resort and the snorkeling was great by the rocks. Our entire family really enjoyed the waterpark. We went around the lazy river at least 20 times a day. The slides are fun too. My husband complained about the seams but I must have more padding than him 'cause I didn't feel a thing when I went down:) Our room was very basic but we hardly spend anytime in it except to sleep. Housekeeping did an excellent job and we always had fresh towels and clean floors. My kids loved the cats that roamed the resort. Especially the mama kitty and her two babies that live by the main pool. The cats pretty much only came out at night and it was fun to see them hunting crabs on the beach. As hard as my kids tried, they could not get any of the cats to come near them. I know it's not very smart to try to pet a feral cat but there was nothing to worry about since none of them came close to us anyway. Just in case you don't like cats, rest assured that you don't have to worry about them curling up on your lap while you're suntanning or anything. I have to thank Shane at Byron's for his friendly service and Wendy at the swim up bar for putting up with our numerous drink requests with a smile. I also want to mention the wonderful service at the gift shop. I did not get the young ladies name but she's tall and thin, probably in her 20's or so, and was extremely helpful the many times myself and the kids stopped in for something. I have to say that Oscar the taxi driver was the best tour guide EVER. He was a wealth of info on Jamaica and was so good to us. Ask for him and you won't be disappointed! Some things to keep in mind: -The duty free shop at the airport has very low prices on alcohol. I wish we'd know that before we bought ours at the resort gift shop. -Make sure to bring bottled water. We brought a bunch in our suitcases and I'm glad we did. -We also brought some cheap blow up mattresses from home and floated on the ocean. It was so peaceful. We used them in the lazy river too when all the tubes were being used. -As I mentioned before, we brought our own snorkeling equipment and it was so convenient! We could go out anytime we wanted and didn't have to worry about getting it back to the rental spot. We just bought inexpensive ones and it was well worth it. All in all, I would go back to the Sunset again today if I could. We are already talking about going back in a couple of years. Book your trip here, I'm positive you won't be disappointed.

The nightly entertainment was pretty darn good. There was a different show every night and most of the guests seemed to enjoy themselves. The t.v. in the rooms have a few movie channels and a good assortment of channels. Can you keep a secret? I did watch a number of lifetime movies because being out in the pool all day has a way of wearing you out (oh, the pool bar made the best drinks but I don't remember the bartender's name. She was pretty funny too). And lastly, there is a casino which is open around the clock if like to play the slots. Connectivity: You can get an internet card for the computer stations (or pay for the wi-fi). You can also purchase an international calling card but come on, you are on vacation. If you use the calling card from your room to dial the access number, the hotel will charge you $0.30. Ridiculous. If you use the phone in the lobby, there is no connection charge. Overall, great value for the money and I would recommend it.

My sister and I spent a week at sunset the first week of June. Check in was at 3pm and we were there at that time however due to whatever reasons we didn't get our room until about 4:30. The front desk did not appear capable of dealing with large amounts of people checking in that being said it really was the only glitch in a fantastic week. The staff was friendly and courteous the food was very good. There was a little lack of consistency with the drinks sometimes the bartenders over poured or the drink ingredients would differ depending on who made it. House keeping did a great job and our room was cleaned by noon every day. The beaches were beautiful with several beaches being very family friendly one beach was clothing optional and there was also a clearly defined nude beach. My sister and I spent time on the clothing optional beach which I feel should have been clearly labeled so for the comfort of some of the more conservative guests. The water sports and other activities they offered were great we really enjoyed the snorkelling in particular and there was an abundance of marine life to see. We booked an ocean front room and the view was absolutely spectacular. I will definitely be returning all around a very good experience.

Just returned from the Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. I have to say that the trip was fine and my complaints in the grand scheme of things did not ruin the vacation, but my money would have been better spent in another resort. My wife and I traveled with another couple through Air Canada Vacations (they were very good). Both couples did the online check in at the same time however when we got to the resort apparently the check in for my wife and I did not go through but the check in for our friends did. So when we arrive they get whisked away while we are sent to the line with a clipboard. After letting them know that we too filled out the online check in they quickly took us to the side but in the end we still had to fill out the form and go through a normal check in, just at the guest services desk. The resort did try to rectify and put us in the same building as our friends (B building). Once we received our room I was less than impressed with the state of the room. A can of paint would go a long way at this resort to change the impression of the rooms. We received a room with a great view of the roof of the lobby (2nd floor on the inside- I could have walked on the roof if I like. Felt bad for the dried out starfish thrown on the roof as well as a bathing suit, underwear and beach towel) The other complaint I had was the Caribbean a la carte. This was by far the biggest joke the way it is handled and served. A 9pm reservation got us seated at 9:30 where after waiting 15 minutes with no waiter/waitress I got up and poured our water. Finally at 10pm our order was taken, brought to us 20 minutes later cold, but that is the only complaint I have about the food at the resort as the food in the buffet and beach grill was excellent The bar staff seem less than impressed to take your order but the drinks are good when you do get them The waiters/waitresses and cooks in the buffet make up for the lack of personality on the bar staff and do an excellent job. Kudos to those who cook and work in the buffet, they do an excellent job. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner in the buffet was great The nightly entertainment at this resort was probably the best I have ever seen at any all inclusive (my wife and I travel twice a year, all around the Caribbean and have been to many 5 star resorts). They do seem to bring in quite a bit of outside entertainment and they were great. I found myself looking forward to the nightly show as it was always exciting. Steel drum band was awesome. We did take one trip to Dunns River Falls which was fun, we traveled with Joe Cool Taxi and I highly recommend using them as it was cheaper than booking at the resort and was very informative. We had Latoya (Mrs. Cool) as our driver and she was awesome (10 out of 10) The other couple we travelled with did not notice the problems my wife and I did but it was only their second Caribbean trip and second all inclusive so they did not have much to base it against. Maybe my wife and I have been spoiled with some of the resorts we have been to in the past (Barceló Palace- Mayan, Grand Sirenis- Mayan, Riu Santa Fe- Cabo, Barceló Punta Cana- DR, I highly recommend those 4 resorts) but I would not go back to this resort and would not recommend it but like I said earlier it did not ruin the vacation was just disappointed in the resort Feel free to PM any questions

My husband and i went this past May for my friend's wedding. Checking in was a breeze and our room was ready 2 hours before the 3 pm standard time. The rooms are clean and spacious. We stayed in the cabana room in the west wing and found the view breath taking. It really wasn't as noisy as the reviews claimed. The beds were comfortable ESPECIALLY after all the water activities the hotel provides, we slept like rocks. The rooms have all the amenities as other hotels ,except for the pad of paper and pen on the desk area with their logo. The food was very good and had a large variety for even the pickiest of eaters. They had themed nights on certain days, so again a bit of variety. The reviews talk about cats roaming the grounds and how they beg. We saw 3 cats in total and we tried to feed them and/or pet them, but they ran away. Please don't let those reviews discourage you.The pool had enough floaties and the beach had plenty of lounge chairs, so there is no need to go out early and reserve them.( i only found 1 broken lounge chair) The nightly entertainment was pretty good, especially the steel drums. I also felt that the drinks were hearty, not watered down. Check out was also a breeze. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REAL BARGAIN, come to sunset beach and relax.

I just returned from a two week stay at the Sunset Beach Resort Spa and waterpark with three other friends. Upon arrival we were informed that there was no double bed rooms left so we would have to spend the night in rooms with a King bed. They assured us that we would have the proper rooms early the next day. We spent all the next day waiting to get our rooms. I found some of the staff at the front desk to be very distracted and most of the time not very friendly..I can honestly say that in my 25 years of cruising and travelling to South America, Mexico and Cuba, anytime I had to deal with the front desk, was the worst that I have ever experienced. The rest of the hotel personel was great!!!! Not impressed with the evening entertainment at all!!!! Apparently they are trying to improve on that and it would be a definite asset. The food was excellent. There was a wonderful variety at each meal and after two weeks it was still enjoyable. I would say one of the best of all the places that I have vacationed.
