I’ve been coming to Clayton since it opened as Bewleys many years ago. It was then the best value hotel in Europe! It’s a bit more expensive now but still great value and good service. Some lovely Irish whisky in the bar- did I spell it right? No! Whiskey.

Few issues but would stay again

It’s not my first time staying at this hotels and the first thing that always sticks with me if the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, they genuinely want to help. Negatives: There is no individual temperature control in the rooms and I found it a little cold. There is little hot water for a bath, I had to use the kettle to warm it up. Quite a limited selection of food at the bar. Positives: Staff - all very friendly and helpful Clean - very clean rooms and same throughout the hotel Good sized room - if your trying to work or relax the rooms are big enough for either All in all, not a bad hotel and would probably stay again.

    Needs better pillows.

I stayed here for 4 nights on business for an event at the RDS, which is fabulous as it’s literally next door to the hotel. The room was spacious, and had a bath/shower too, Which I loved after a long day after the show. The beds are comfortable but the pillows are ridiculous!! They’re so hard and difficult to sleep on, you wake up with neck ache. I think different types or a medium pillow would be better so the guest could choose would be better as I hardly slept during the 4 nights as I was so uncomfortable. The food was good, I had breakfast each day and there are plenty of options including gluten/dairy free to choose from. I also had room service, which came very quickly and generous portions - 12 chicken wings (€10) for a starter and a large pizza (€11). Service charge was €7 so not too bad! On the whole I would stay again... but I would definitely bring my own pillows!!!

The Clayton Ballsbridge is undoubtedly a beautiful hotel. It is superbly located - close to everything and surrounded by beautiful streets. It is stunning from the outside and it is stunning on the inside. The room was lovely (unfortunately my room had a rather bland ugly view but sometimes these things can't be helped). The bed was so comfortable and I had a decent nights sleep - I was only there for one night so the size of the room didn't matter but it was small. Very small! Try to do anything around or near your bed and you are bumping walls and furniture. The one thing I didn't like - I booked it thinking there was a health club but when I got there and asked they didn't have one (it is still listed as an amenity on their website) - not sure what was /is about. I also booked it out of the city centre so I could drive in, park and go but then got charged for parking. I hate it when a hotel is so commercial (I'm thinking chain driven hotels) that there is a charge attached to everything. For that reason I wouldn't use the hotel again - there are so many hotels that are equally as lovely but don't charge you to park while you sleep. One complaint I do have - I needed to leave very early so I sorted my check out the evening before. Despite having paid, I couldn't get out of the car park so I pressed for help repeatedly. No one answered so I had to park and go back to reception - the receptionist was in a back office and clearly I woke him up!!! Poor chap was like a deer in the headlights!
