Returned after 29 years, honeymooned on this beautiful property back then and now I brought my 2 adult children with us. Booked an Ocean front room that did not disappoint! The lull of the waves made for a very pleasant sleep. The room was not grand but it was immaculate. There were 2 rocking chairs facing the beautiful waters of Waikiki. The only downside was the very tiny bathroom, no real vanity , the water pressure on the rain shower was good. Be prepared, the food and beverage is expensive, more so than 29 years ago. There is ample food and restaurants outside the hotel. There are also several trolleys that can be taken just right outside the hotel for a nominal fee. The afternoon and evening performers were actually very good! One of them was Bruno Mars' uncle, he resembled Bruno in voice and appearance, very nice guy -Johnny Valentine. There are activities throughout the week and don't forget to explore the 2nd floor beyond the majestic staircase. There is a mini museum dedicated to the hotel. Exercise room was a nice size with good equipment, they also had 2 Pelotan bikes but they were always occupied. Daily morning yoga was complimentary and they were good with the exception of one elderly instructor. Downside: Most staff was very pleasant and helpful especially the housekeepers and Ken, the wait staff at the Veranda. He was an incredibly hard worker. He was running back and forth servicing everyone all night long. There was only 2 staff members that were unpleasant: I had a very rude and temperamental older yoga instructor. She pointed her finger at me when she didn't like my pose and snipped at me that I should take Yoga 101. There was no skill level posted on the hotel activity schedule for this class. Her lack of Namaste was appalling as well as her ignorance regarding customer service. The second staff that was unfortunately unengaged in her duties was a young woman manning the concierge desk. She looked welcoming, with her hair swept up in a bun with a flower; however she was not. I had spoken with her several times and the last encounter, she crossed her arms as if she was to say "now what do you want"? She begrudgingly gave me a bus map of Waikiki and told me "FYI these are the last ones I have left". I bit my tongue, I wanted to say to her "well figured it out and get more, that's your job". By the way these are the same folks that sold my family a tour of the island to the Macadamia nut factory and the Dole plantation for a total of $390. If you are looking for a bit of history, do not purchase. The tour company basically unloads the bus to these places directly to the gift shop, there's nothing historical about it. It is a beautiful property. Just prepare yourself for some sticker shock. I did rent an umbrella with 2 chairs for $65 day. Another guest went to the local target and purchased a beach umbrella for $21 since she was going to be here for a week. The beach is public so she just used the umbrella on the beach-brilliant!

I obtained a package deal on Hawaiian Airlines that basically resulted in a free flight. My larger room with a city vIew, and king bed was $400/night inc airfare. Normally the room by itself is $400/night. The Moana is the oldest hotel in Waikiki, opening its doors in 1901. Its on the beach and across from the International Market Place (Kalakaua side). Positives: National Landmark hotel located right on the beach with a great view of Diamond Head. Big room and nice view from the lanai; Toto washlet w/ remote control; Quiet room; Harry, Peter, Marnie, Clayton & Sean the bartenders at the Beach Bar showed a lot of aloha. I love this bar bc of guys like this; Friendly staff; Negatives: Small TV; You don't need your card key to access your floor at night; Closet is in the bathroom. There is enuf room for an armoire; Shower looks like one you would find in a cheap hotel; No mouthwash; Hard to get a chair or cabana, despite paying a $37 resort fee daily. They should do 1/2 day rentals to discourage peeps from hogging the foregoing all day, and only using for a couple of hours; I ordered calamari at the Beach Bar, and it took almost one hour to arrive despite Harry asking where my food was. A Mgr took over and my food arrived, but it was lukewarm; Despite some negatives, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The Moana is emblematic of the Aloha spirit. I felt like a mo'i (king) here.

My wife and I spent a few days at the Moana Surfrider in January 2020. It is a historic hotel right on Waikiki Beach and the location is perfect. It is really the best location on Waikiki Beach and is only meters from the water. It is also just steps from restaurants, shopping and entertainment in the Waikiki district. The history at this hotel is magnificent. It has great character but it is very busy and it will not be a quiet peaceful stay. They have a wonderful veranda in the front and back with large chairs to watch the world go round. The restaurants are good but not great. The staff don’t really know the menu and couldn’t tell us what items were gluten free. We were actually told that the chef didn’t know if the bacon was gluten free or not. I would be highly surprised if that actually was the case. We stayed in the old Banyan Wing. Rooms are small in this section and there are no balconies but they are 100 years old and filled with character. We knew what we were getting and decided to stay in the smaller rooms.

This hotel has history and I thought it is good to stay here. Therefore, I was expecting that the room is old but it was more worse than exception. The room smelled like mold and the wall was very thin. We could hear the conversation clearly from next room. I could handle with the environment. However, The worst thing is staff. Everyone is unfriendly and no one asks us to help luggage when we checked out. Also, Housekeeping staff open our room key and came in before checking out (9 A.M.) and no apologies. The staff quality is below 3 star hotel and Uber driver is more helpful than this hotel staff. ???????SPG?????????????????????????????????????????1?????????????????????????????????????????UBER?????????????????

What a pleasant afternoon we had today.....enjoying the food, the view and the exceptional service at Westin Moana in Waikiki!!! High tea is served daily between 11:30 -14:30. I would recommend making a reservation and kindly ask for a table closest to the beach as you can admire the spectacular scenery on Waikiki beach. Definitely a special outing if you enjoy the traditional particulars of high tea.
