Great alternative to resorts, still beautiful and clean

My friend was getting married in Maui. My other friend and I were bridesmaids. She stayed in a resort and we stayed close by in this hotel. I’m so glad I stayed in hotel versus resort. Most resorts in Hawaii are not all inclusive so there’s no real value to stay in one. The Maui Coast hotel was beautiful, clean, and had so many amenities to offer. My friend and I took advantage of free bike rentals, info sessions about excursions, and a restaurant on site. Our room had a nice balcony too. The staff was nice and helpful.

    Perfect location

This is our second trip to Maui Coast Hotel and enjoyed it as much the second trip as the first. It is easy to drive to and from the airport a central location across street from beaches. Restaurants are just few blocks either direction. ABC gas station is couple doors down. Restaurant serves great food and dining by pool. Everything is spotless and very friendly staff. Bikes to use makes it fun to explore.

After golf we stopped at the Coast Pool Side Cafe for a quick breakfast. It didn’t work out. By 11:30 am they were not serving breakfast. OK, we would have lunch. Although the food was good, sliders, burgers and fish and chips were good the service took forever. We were there well over an hour. Too slow.

    Amazing!

Maui Coast hotel was the perfect place for my husband and I to stay at for our first visit to Maui (8 nights). We were looking for a central location that was affordable and nice and this hotel was perfect for that. If you are looking for a fancy resort with many pools and restaurants, this is not the place for you. We rented a car and easily self parked in the hotel’s free parking lot. We wanted to see the entire island and easily drove to lookout spots on the west part of the island, as well as to Road to Hana and Mt. Haleakala for the sunrise. Being in Kihei we were also right next to the boat dock where we left for the Molikini snorkel trip and then to the whale watching. By the way, we had never used a concierge service to help plan these activities but the hotel had its own concierge desk and you can attend a little talk by them the day you arrive to learn more about the island. We ended up doing that and winning a free whale watching experience from this talk and went only because of that. It’s whale watching season and we saw at least 15 humpback whales including one breech! It was phenomenal and one of my favorite parts of the trip. In regards to the hotel... The room was super clean, big with a balcony overlooking nature, king bed and a separate sitting area and a separate area with microwave and refrigerator and a sink! (this was huge for us as we bought a ton of local fruits and breakfast and saved a ton of money eating breakfast and sometimes lunch at the hotel). The Target near the airport has a lot of ready-meals that were surprisingly very affordable. For our other meals we drove to nearby places locally (I think you could walk to but we drove) and our favorite was Paia Fish market in Kihei. The grilled fish dish and fish tacos are to die for. There were also 2 food trucks outside the hotel that were delicious and always crowded with people ordering food. We didn’t use the pool much as it was raining and water was cold (pool is on smaller side) but the hot tubs were perfect. Sipping 5 dollar Mai Thai’s during the happy hour was perfect. And the live music at night was great too. Oh and we did quite a bit of hiking in the rain, our clothes were filthy and the hotel has FREE washers and dryers on three floors (they charge for soap but we bought a few laundry pods). The beach literally across the street from the hotel is smaller than some other beaches on the island but still just as beautiful. The hotel is not on beach but the walk is so short. The sand was softer than some of the other beaches we were on, water crystal clear and had a more local vibe which I loved (not super crowded, locals playing volleyball, people barbecuing in the grass area). The sunsets here are gorgeous and on one occasion we ran into a huge turtle when seeing the sunset (pic below). You can also easily drive to many other beaches down the street in Kihei and Makena and further and we were not at a beach we didn’t like and had no problem finding parking (we avoided the Lahaina beaches). Again, perfect hotel for those that like to explore, super chill, close to everything, and don’t want the hassle of waiting on the valet driver every time you want to go somewhere. I will also mention that they do have a shuttle which was perfect for us when we went to a Lual with unlimited food and drinks! Definitely recommend this hotel to others like us who want to explore the island! Definitely recommend the sunrise at Mt Haleakala (pic below) and for serious hikers hiking in the Sliding Sands trail (we hiked to lip of the crater).

Kihei is very relaxed and friendly place to stay at Maui. Drier than the north shore and no skyscraper hotels and more busy shopping as was at Kaanapali. Maui coast hotel is next to the beach which is ideal for surf beginners and sunset is marvelous to watch! There is short distance to shop/restaurants. The hotel has a quiet pool with a pool bar with nice food and live music. We also enjoyed the free tennis court and bycycles. Friendly staff, rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped.
