This was my boyfriend and I 's first trip to Costa Rica. Hands down, THE BEST trip of our lives; and we really have the staff of Hotel Villas Playa Samara to thank for making our Costa Rican experience truly unforgetable! Coco, the bartender of the swim up bar and Mike, one of the servers at the restaurant, gave us amazing service. They both went above and beyond to make sure we were well fed and had a drink in hand. Coco mixes the tastiest drinks and is easy to talk to. Ask him about his "coco special drink". Mike went out of his way to make sure we ate after missing diner by a few minutes due to being on a hiking tour all day. Make sure to talk to Remy from Monkey tours in the lobby to inquire about excursions. The activity-director," Mr. G" is who made our trip one we will never forget, and we now consider him a life long friend. He is so fun to be around, cool and genuinely a great person. Impossible to not smile when around him. Make sure to inquire about his free walk...He showed us cool secret spots with a waterfall and beautiful views. Villa Playa Samara, we will be back.

A disapointing start to our vacation but the last 6 days were amazing...Our flight was late leaving Toronto by 1.5 hours so needless to say we arrived to Liberia late and then we had a 2 hour bus ride to the hotel. We arrived just after 11 pm on Friday night . We were dropped off at the front of the hotel villas playa samara and it was a ghost town. No one at the front desk to check us in ,no music no one in the pool no one around at all. We wondered the resort until we found a security guard who didnt speak english but he found us a waiter cleaning up and as best as we could we tried to communicate we were there to check in. We were hungry , thirsty and tired and to our surpirse there was nothing open , we couldnt get any food , water or coke to drink. We got the waiter to find our room keys and they escorted us to our rooms. We asked if there was any way to get food and they told us only in town, so my husband took a taxi into to town at midnight to find the only open restaurant and brought us back food and drinks. So the rules of the hotel which we didnt know is everything shuts down at 10pm . After the first night we were prepared for an early turn in and made sure we had snack and drinks to last the night . The people at the hotel were amazing, we enjoyed getting to chat with evans the staff in the gift shop and although the buffet was small the food was pretty good. The rooms were very clean and large . The beach view was so beautiful and the excusions through monkey tours were fun and we felt safe . We also booked a private deep sea all day fishing tour with Frank for 700.00 USD for 4 people and we had a great time catching fish, well worth the money. Frank and his crew cleaned the fish and we brought some of it back to the hotel and the amazing chefs cooked it up perfectly for our dinner. We had so much we shared it with the staff and some of the guests . We were able to walk along the beach into town and had some local food and we rented the kayak for 10.00 per person per hour from the beach vendor and made our way over to the island and did some snorkling. All in all an amazing trip and i am going to miss the staff and the view from the hotel villas playa samara . Last thing is make sure you have 30.00 USD cash per person for your exit tax. Which is paybale at the airport. There is a bank machine at the airport if you forget .

Arriving via Air Canada from Toronto direct flight to Liberia, Costa Rica for 5 five hours on Nov 19, 2019. The Air Canada vacation agent waiting outside for our 2 hour ride to the hotel in Samara beach, District of Nicoya, Province of Guanacaste. We were welcomed in the Hotel Las Villas de playa Samara with drinks and a cold soothing face towel in heat of 31’C( what a big difference with the -4’C in Toronto). There are two places to stay: 1. Las villas ( as what it means houses with kitchen , living room, and bedroom with washrooms and shower) 2. Hotel Azura.( which was not explained to us by air canada vacation) We were booked and duped to stay in the Las Villas by air canada saying that it is better to stay in the villas and was asked to add 100 US$ more . In fact, the truth is Hotel Azura is the better deal and service with 3 specialty restaurant , private pools, Ocean views , telephone service( which is not available in the villas). Las Villas buffet is a simple 5 viands choices, with fruits and pastries. ice cream if you ask. Drinks are available, if you ask. You have to know what they have for you to order. The people are very friendly, server needs more training for service that you expect them to do for you when you go on vacation. The Place is simple quiet in the Pacific coast. Sea breeze and the trees and winds so relaxing that makes living in Nicoya District less stressful that it is one of the blue zones in the world. [ more people living more than a century Old]. What makes our stay fruitful is Mr. G.( Gerardo) the activities director, He is really good, He made us sweat the second day hiking 2 hours in the jungle, traveling along his well trained tracks making sure we are all safe. we saw a family of howling monkeys, the pristine beach of Carillo, the waterfalls and a secret beach cove to relax and stretch and cool off. Mr G is there everyday to have bingos with prizes free massage in the spa. by 5 pm , Mr G is ready to have you perspire again in the sunset beach for Latin dance, I lose 2 pounds that day. Mr G . the next morning 8 am , have my wife and I stretching in the balcony of Hotel Azura for an hour before we have our breakfast. by 10 am , I am in the swimming pool doing water aerobics. then Shower and lunch. There are tours available in the Monkey tours and Air Canada vacation in the hotel. The 2 famous tours are, the Arenal and Monteverde tours. If you are adventurous, you can rent a car from Alamo in Samara town centre or use Alamo website to book to find their prices . I believe renting for a week will be cheaper. so book and check your plan to do for a week while in Costa Rica.

This was my husband/my first trip to Costa Rica. We loved the Hotel Villas Playa Samara. What we loved most was the Activity Director-whom we fondly referred to as "Mr.G". Gerard was one of the friendliest, most enthusiastic Activity Directors I've met. Being an Activity Coordinator for 20 years myself....even I was impressed. Mr.G is the Act. Dr. for both connected resorts and he was so happy and genuinely excited about his job and the guests he created programs for. He is hands down one of the best aspects of the Hotel Villas Playa Samara!!! We love you Mr.G!!!

Went February 2018 This was our 1st time in CR, we booked azura but it wasn't ready so got moved to the sister resort. All be it we loved the villa idea, small but what more do you need then a bed and a toilet in such an amazing country with so much to explore :) We quickly learned we were in Tico Time, and adjusted quite easily Staff great Grounds beautiful Beach... the best ! Wild horses roaming free ? Not many people so no worries of overcrowding. Close to town we walked to it a few times via the beach, Now this is a 3star at best. So no stocked fridges, housekeeping was hit or miss, small buffet but I always managed to eat something. No food or drink after 10pm. There is a store on resort with outrageous prices if you like lol We grabbed a bag of doritos, plain chips and small can of nuts Price.... 50$ USD!! Needless to say we went hungry :(
