Great week at Westin Conchal Reserva Resort

Al P on Apr 13, 2024

Absolutely stunning property with great service and food. The adults pool was great and service from anyone at the resort was prompt with follow up. Food is top notch and has something for everyone. We travelled as a family of 4 and had good space in a double queen bed room. Rooms aren’t new but are very nice. Our room was 331 and was close to everything. Lots of lizards and birds and couple visits from Holler monkeys. We did a waterfall excursion and a half day trip to Tamarindo for our teenagers to try surfing which we recommend. We booked through Erik Garcia Conchal beach and he is highly recommended. Great service and follow up. Prices are great too.

Honest assessment for famiky

jimandthefamily (Pullman, Washington) on Apr 13, 2024

Honest review from a family that has traveled to many countries I usually will not do an all inclusive but decided to go with my extended family. I usually enjoy exploring and finding local places to eat but i like to stay in nicer brand hotels and am diamond member at other chains. I had very high hopes. But i will list what I observed and still have another day here. First and foremost. The staff from checkin to bartender to servers to drivers were all very happy, friendly, helpful and would stop what they were doing to either answer the question or get what you need. It did not matter if it wasnt their job, they would find a way to get it done. I loved that. Now my thoughts 1)Bungalows are older, cracks, stains but no significant bugs. Which in a tropical place is hard. Fridge was nice and stocked with a few things. Overall was not impressed with the rooms, more 4 star then what i am used to. 2)Tipping. Unsure what to tip. I was told no tips but then everyone else tipping and sense of feeling like i was a jerk for not. So i just left 20 dollars at dinner and 5 at lunch and breakfast. Hated finding money at poolside bar to tip. It should either be no tipping or q jar in the room to tip and split with everyone after stay. Way to awkward. 3)very inconsistent on things. Was supposed to get ammeniry but did not receive despits calls. Finally gave up. 4)Did not enjoy all the upcharges. Ifnits all inclusive dont shame me for not paying 120 dollars for a tomahawk steak or 40 extra for lobster. 5)liquir. I am not a big drinker but do enjoy a nice drink on occasion. Constantly told i could not have the good liquir because i am just all inclusove and have to pay more for the drink or upgrade. So basically a step up from basic liquir but no decent drink unless i want to pay 25 dollars a shot. So i could drink 50 pina colladas but asking for one decent scotch or whisky was extra. Why create that, just tell people you get all mixed drinks with basic crap or you pay. I would have gladly bought a nice bottle at airpirt for 60 dollars then pay 25 dollars per shot for same thing. 5) no bottles of carbonated water but small bottles if regular water. Such a waste of plastic. Just hand me a reusable bottle and i could fill it up but i am not bringing my own. 6)Seems like everything is geared to give you just the basics but the dangle to carrot if you want to pay we will make it nice. Well i had a frickin beautiful time for 4 days 3 nights with 5 people at nicer resort in la fortuna and premium drinks that was not all inclusive and i did everything and paid the same as one night here after the hotel, car rental, food, excursions, gas, and alcohol. So if you charge a premium give it 7)you have no idea the size of the dinner entre. Sometimes you order two and sometimes one. My two boys who are 18/19 and 6ft tall 170 lbs and muscle, ate everything they ordered. No wasted foos but we overheard the staff saying in spanish which we speak that they cant have anymore food. Is it all inclusive or not? The next night at a different restaurant we saw the staff talking and our steaks were great but one of my boys had massive diarrhea and vomiting about 4 hrs afterwards. And no it was not alcohol since most drinks are watered down. Plus we had only 3 drinks from 6:45 to 10:00 and only 2 during day. So i have a day left and will update if any vhanges but this was my observation and i reached out to manager about the ammenities. So we shall see.

One of a kind experience - we will be back!

Amazing location and a vacation to remember. We were at the Westin Playa Conchal for 6 days/5 nights in early April. Check in process was easy, the front desk helped us upgrade our room to a family JR suite for the same rate and a king size bed. Housekeeping was good as well - they quickly fulfilled any requests and even organized everything in our room which was a nice touch. The room itself was spacious and had a private balcony, the AC worked perfectly fine and kept things cool. Restaurants were solid, we booked our reservations a few days in advance but had plenty of flexibility to make changes the day of. La Sabana was our least favorite - one of our steaks came out pretty burnt and the apps were just ok. However the poolside restaurant is at the same location and the lunch there was very good so might have just been an off night for La Sabana. Faisanella and Manglar were both very good. We didn’t get a chance to try Bamboo or Spirula. Breakfast at Mitra Market was good as well - they have just about all of the classic breakfast foods. We also tried Table 1 (which is located inside Faisanella) for our anniversary and it was amazing - 6 course tasting with full plate portions and healthy pours to go with it. This was an add on but absolutely worth it for a unique dining experience. We also stopped by the bar during the National Championship and they had the game on (go UCONN!) and everyone was very into the game. Was a very cool way to watch the game. The pool and beach were both everything we hoped for. Both were very well maintained and weren’t overly crowded, it was easy to find space to yourself. There are merchants at the beach but they don’t bother you at all if you politely say no. The views from the beach are one of kind of the scenery and the water is warm and very blue. At the beach we also were able to book a jet ski tour with Erik in the blue shirt, this was so much fun and we got to take the jet skis to a cave in the area which was awesome. The resort itself is one of the best part of the experience. Seeing all of the wild life made it such a special experience that you can’t find anywhere else. The pack of monkeys (at least 25+) were even sleeping right outside our balcony one day!! The grounds itself are very well maintained as well. The resort is very walkable and the authentic scenery make it that much more enjoyable. One thing worth pointing out was there were some minor issues of power outages our last night - they lasted about a minute at a time and seemed to be resort wide but it came back on very quickly. This happened a handful of times that night. Not sure if this is common and it didn’t affect the experience in the end but something to keep an eye on. All in all this was an amazing vacation and we wished we were there for longer. The staff was very caring and attentive and made you feel very welcomed. We will be coming back!

Sun, sand and water

LaraAmador (Gaithersburg, Maryland) on Apr 12, 2024

The hotel is nestled right at the beach and the grounds are gorgeous. It is a huge; lots of walking. You walk among coatis, iguanas, raccoons and monkeys. The beach is beautiful and the pool is big. It is a small town on its own. Down part, didn’t feel like I was in Costa Rica; very americanized.

Spectacular Stay in Costa Rica

MIFunTimes on Apr 12, 2024

We just returned from an incredible stay in Costa Rica at the Westin. Was nervous before we left after reading some of the not so great hotel reviews, but can honestly say we had the most amazing time and highly recommend this resort! Husband and I traveled with 2 16 year old girls, and booked 2 family club suites. Rooms were updated and clean, temperature stayed cool (between 71-73 degrees), Westin bedding/beds were quality and comfortable. Snacks and drinks restocked daily, drinks stayed well chilled in the room fridge. Towel "puppy" left for us on our last day :). The grounds are amazing - we enjoyed both the family pool and adult club pool. Always able to find chairs, both in and out of the family section, despite the resort being full. Pool service in the family and adult club sections were fantastic (note: with booking the family club rooms, the adults will have access to the adult club amenities). Also loved encountering all of the wildlife - howler monkeys, iguanas, coates throughout the grounds, and heron on the beach. Staff is friendly, responsive, and so helpful. We walked all over the resort except to/from the main lobby: used shuttles. Ordered shuttle pickups the night before (3 excursions, and for checkout), and they were prompt and on time every single time. Food/Restaurants: Food quality was fantastic, especially for an all inclusive! We lived on fresh fruit (pineapple, papaya, grapes, watermelon, melons, mango), fresh, well prepared seafood, wood fired pizzas, etc... We ordered fresh mango from our server at Mitra market at breakfast every day (not available in the buffet, but they will prepare and bring it to you upon request). Able to get reservations for the restaurants every night, we booked a week in advance: could have used Club concierge, but it was just as easy and quick to do it on the Westin Conchal app on my phone. Our favorite was Manglar (Seafood - had dinner here twice), epecially enjoyed their Surf and turf (filet and grilled shrimp), also loved the the shrimp fetticchini, lobster ravioli (both had homemade noodles)... and Creme Brulee taster. Next favorite was Bamboo, also liked Spirula and Faisanella. Did not eat dinner at La Sabana (Steakhouse). We received great service at all of the restaurants - it was prompt, and servers were very responsive to requests. Used room service several times. Activities: My husband golfed - he says the course was "very challenging but fun - amazing views". There was a tree filled with 20+ howler monkeys between holes 15-16. We did several tours. (1) Booked in advance: transportation to/from the airport and a full day La Leona Waterfall/Oropendola Waterfall/Rio Negro Hot Springs/Lunch private tour through *Fayla Tours*. Amazing company and service. La Leona was an active adventure - hiking on trails, in the river, swimming through canyons....so much fun!!! Do it! (2) We booked a private sunset catamaran tour out of Tamarindo with *Vela V*: Spectacular cruise, Ken -owner and captain, is great! Top notch service, customized experience, very competitive rates for a private boat tour! We then had dinner in town at Pangas. (3) Booked private transportation to/from Tamarindo and a 2 hour ATV beach tour through *Eric Garcia* on the beach after we arrived. He is fantastic, responsive, and will take good care of you - please use him for services and tours! He has highly competitive rates, quality experiences. HIGHLY recommend all 3 of these companies! They were wonderful!!! Our biggest con was that we would have loved a few more days - Pura Vida!
