Luna Palace Hotel & Suites is a clean and well run resort in the Sabalo area just north of the Golden Zone. It is part of a group of Palace resorts. It is the oldest of them and is geared more for adults than children activities. They are doing some fresh ironing of paint in the rooms and have changed the outer colors to cream & grey instead of the more traditionale yellow & orange. Pool is heated and there are no crowds except in the one day per week that cruise ships are in and they allow them here for the day as an excursion fee.

We have been coming to LUNA Palace for many years. We come for the relative quiet resort, with a great location. Restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance. Staff this year is MUCH IMPROVED over past years.

We were promised a King size bed. They said they do not have any but have Queen bed but that was not ready for 3 days. We were put in a larger Unit that had a great view but it was on the bottom floor right next to where the Music blared from 9 - 5. Also there was a maintenance door just outside out bedroom window where men went in at 5:30 AM and it work us every morning. Finally after 3 weeks it was taken care of. Be careful of leaving sliding glass doors cracked open at night. Someone came in and took money out of wallets. We were lucky in that my computer or jewelry could have been taken. The manager was very helpful and did what he could but could not view the cameras by the time we left. Staff was very nice and helpful but spoke little English. Love the location of the resort. On bus line and near wonderful restaurants.

It has been a while since my last review of the Luna Palace, so I thought a update would be helpful. My wife and I stayed there from Jan 18 to Jan 25 2019. Flight, immigration, customs and transport went well. We arrived at the Luna Palace a little after 2 p.m. and check in was efficient and friendly. It was nice to see a number of familiar faces as that means staff changeover is low. The front desk staff went over the basics, checked our passports, we filled out and signed a couple of short forms and we were done. We did request that they leave our wristbands loose so we could take them off when we left the hotel (because they are timeshare sales folks magnets). They understood and said we could just keep them in our pocket and show if we wanted to charge anything or visit a sister hotel. Our room was ready so the bellman brought us straight up to our room. Total time about 15 min. There are now two elevators and this really helped with the wait times. The newer elevator is bigger and has a glass side to the street so it is a nice view. Our room was on the 7th floor (of 8) and we never waited more than a few minutes for an elevator the whole trip. We booked a package through Delta Vacation that only offered a one bedroom suite option. We have stayed in the that room type before and were happy with it. This room type has a separate bedroom with two double beds as well as a large room with two twins that act as couches and the kitchen eating area. It has two 3/4 bath and 2 TVs. The bellman brought us to our room and we were truly impressed with the room we were given. This room, in addition to everything mentioned, had a huge balcony overlooking the water and a smaller second balcony off the bedroom overlooking the pool area. The double beds had pillow-top mattresses, everything had newer paint and everything was as clean and nice as could be. Bigger fridge with freezer, Mr. Coffee coffeemaker (with gold reusable filter), microwave and 2 electric burners. Lots of hot water in the showers, fresh towels, soap, lotion, shampoo and 4 small bottles of water. The pool area and beach are beautiful and not crowded. The pool is heated, a really nice thing if the night was cool. Caters to an older crowd, so not crazy or noisy. Music and water aerobics, etc. We could always find a lounger. We really enjoyed our time at the pool. Friendly waiters and good beer and food. Fantastic large plate of fresh Guacamole and a bucket of six iced cold beers and a nice tip were 250 pesos. Served with a smile. What an amazing deal. Full restaurant and pool bar. Great large breakfast buffet if you are really hungry. Sunsets on the balcony were unbelievably gorgeous. Nights were quiet and perfect for a nightcap Kahlua and cream on the balcony. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. Things to know: - You need to provide your own ice and water. There is a nice place across the street that has 5 ltrs water and 10 lbs of ice for a little over $1 each - There is a 500 peso ($26 US) deposit to open up the plates, glasses, cookware and silverware. They will take an inventory when opened and when you check out. We gave them an AMEX card for the deposit. We had a PENDING charge that went away when we closed things out when we left. You are responsible for you own dish washing. - There is a bus stop right by the Luna Palace so you can get around. Non A/C buses are 8, 8.5, or 9 pesos per person. It kind of depends on the driver how much they charge so plan on 9 and you will be fine. Green and some White buses have A/C and cost 11 pesos. I try and have 11 pesos per person on hand. Please don't ask the driver to break a big note as they have to drive as they try and make change. - Ask the helpful folks at the Luna Place front desk if you need transportation help or just know what bus to take. If the bus has MEGA on the front window it will take you to a large Walmart like store, it it says CENTRO it will take you downtown and you can get off at the main market. - Pulmonias and taxis are usually available by the bus stop as well. Just agree to a price before you leave. - My favorite ATM is a bit South of Mary's restaurant on the main street. It is a red Santander bank. Instructions with English and it gives a variety of bills, not just 500 peso notes. Take just about any bus south and look for the Mary's sign and get off. (just past the El Cid. It is on the East side of the street. - Restaurants within short walking distance of Luna Palace. North - Panchos (Mexican), Angelos (Italian). La Catrina is right across the street. South - El Paaaje/The Place, Los Zarapes, Tony on the Beach, Locos Locos, Chilies Pepper (all Mexican/American/Shrimp), Fat Fish (Ribs). And tons more. F.I.S.H is a favorite down by Mary's. This year we noticed a lot of new painting and updating both internal and external. Everything looks well cared for and staff were always asking if we needed anything. Really had a great time at the Luna Palace. We will return as it just keeps getting better.
