Secrets excellent standard as usual!

WIlliamHurl (Ontario, Canada) on Apr 12, 2024

Excellent resort, staff and location! The Secrets excellent standard met once again! This place borders on the Secrets St.James, virtually the same resort. We stayed in a studio with a swim out pool, I’m not a big fan of these but it was a nice touch with a partial ocean view. Room was modern, decent size and always clean. The service in the members lounge and on the beach was top notch. Special shout out to Sheree and Shedane, hope I spelled those right. They were upbeat, funny and hardworking. Nothing tops that! Restaurants all good. Italian and French are my fav, the buffet has everything, it was very good and easy to navigate! Lots of shops. We didn’t do any excursions, just sat on our butts for 7 days! There’s a jerk chicken guy with a smoker that comes around in the afternoon! CHASE HIM if you have to, it is unbelievably good! ?? As usual Secrets you didn’t disappoint!

Worst experience

Shaniya C (New York City, New York) on Apr 12, 2024

I went on a trip with my friends. I stayed at the wild orchid preferred, my friends stayed at the St James preferred. We heard good things about the resort so we decided to make secrets the experience. Unfortunately it was the worst. It says that dinner is from 6-10pm. Sometimes at nights when we go for dinner we can't get a seating because of the long line. Upon finally get the chance to go in, we were advise by the hostess that they are clearing out and that no more food was left, we had to order room service. During the day when we go on the beach, we can't get any chairs to sit. Most chairs had things on them and we were told that some were butlers rooms. The guy on the beach said that if a chair is not being used for some time we can use it, the chairs had stuff on it for over 2 hours and no one came to the chairs. When we called for housekeeping they take the entire day to come to our room. When we first checked in our mini bar wasn't stocked. The 3rd night, we decided to go outside the resort to have dinner, I was told that the agents at the desk would be able to call a cart for us to take us to the gate because the property is huge and it's a lot of walking. We came down the front desk at 10:30 the night to get the front desk to assist. I saw a guy walking away from the desk, he never came back. The next night we came down the same time to go out of the resort to a party, there wasn't anyone at the desk. I was been advise that the agents shift finished at 11pm. I asked to speak with a manager when I spoke to a bellman. Richard was the manager and he reached out to me after I voice my concern, the only thing that he did was offered $100 resort credit due to the inconvenience. Upon checking out, we spent the entire morning at the front desk checking out and signing different papers. My drive almost left me. I would never come back to secrets. Worst resort after. The only good thing is the marijuana that the bellmen sold us. That was good stuff. But the resort overall is a mess. I don't even want to add the pictures and videos cause it will make the resort look horrible, even though they are. They sent me an email survey, I didn't even reply to the email because only the resort can see the response.

Awesome Jamaican vacation

Jeannie B on Apr 11, 2024

We came to Secrets Wild Orchid to celebrate my husband retiring from the military after 20 years of service. We chose the Preferred Swim out room which included the butler service. The butlers Andre and Davion were great! They were both friendly and attentive to our needs. We had a great experience with the staff. The rooms were clean and the fridge was restocked daily with drinks. We asked for extra waters and within a few hours, had 2 cases delivered to our room. The butlers would make dinner reservations for us daily along with reserving chairs at the pool. Matthew was great as well! Super friendly and always had a smile on his face. He remembered both my husband and I all week. The waitresses and bar staff at the pools were also super friendly! The housekeepers were great as well. They cleaned the room each day and were quick! The resort was well kept and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would come back in the future.

A beautiful and elegant retreat from daily life

This place is phenomenal. Gorgeous landscapes, perfect service, every want and need met and exceeded. Duran and Kenroy are two of the most hardworking and accommodating staff I've ever seen, not just at this establishment, but at any of its kind.

Disappointing and overpriced

Mike K (Midwest) on Apr 09, 2024

We are experienced travelers and have seen many good and bad resorts. Our experience at Secrets Wild Orchid was overall disappointing. Our "preferred" status provided little useful benefit. We had extremely limited access to "premium" liquors throughout the properties. Non preferred guests were frequently using the ‘preferred’ pools and other areas - exclusivity was not enforced and some guests simply paid cash to employees for access. Our private butler was unhelpful and his primary concern was to get us to participate in the membership sales meeting where they urged us to book directly through Hyatt. They misled us on the details and compensation for attending the sales meeting. Guests were smoking, vaping and using portable speakers at the pools daily. Things were broken and the paint was peeling on the hotel, public areas were dirty. One rotating restaurant was closed daily and the food was largely mediocre with poor service at times (other times service was fine or good). We had a wait of almost two hours to be seated for dinner one evening. Several employees were extremely rude and dismissive of our requests and we were denied a late checkout of just one additional hour. Overall, we would not stay at this property again and may avoid the Hyatt Brand all together. This vacation was significantly overpriced for the service and quality of food/beverage and was misrepresented on the exclusivity and benefits of the "preferred" status.
