I had read about how bringing your pet to Disney was made simple by this resort and was anxious to get the Pluto Gift bag on check-in that I had read about. I was severely disappointed to find it consisted of one very cheap plastic bowl and mat (see picture below). Disappointed, but dealing with it, I went down to the front desk to get the second bowl thinking that one cheap bowl in the bag must have been an accident, but was surprised to hear that one cheap bowl and mat really was all that’s included in the bag along with some plastic bags for accidents. Severely underwhelming especially for a Deluxe Disney Resort. Not worth the high price tag if they are going to skimp on the little things that make Disney so special.

This resort is arguably the best on property. I’ll start with my few negatives then go on to positives. Negatives: During our visit, various dining options were either completely unavailable or were offering extremely limited seating availability. This meant getting food after the parks closed at the hotel was a bit trickier than it should have been. Granted, our meals were great at beaches and cream but so-so from the quick service option. Not a big deal but I worth noting. Also mask enforcement was usually pretty strict although on Disney buses to/from the resort enforcement was almost nonexistent. Not much Disney can do about it since the driver is focusing on the road though. Positives: this property is ideally located. It is between Epcot and Hollywood studios parks (a little closer to Epcot than Hollywood Studios). Both are within walking distance. You can sky line or ride a boat to Hollywood Studios although I don’t recommend doing so as it likely will take just as long as walking if not longer. Hotels in this area are the only properties where you can walk to 2 parks I believe which is amazing. The property is also on the smaller side for Disney hotels which is nice when your room is only a short walk from the front desk compared to other Disney properties. The service was as good if not better then other resorts. The cast members were always welcoming and ensured we had a great visit. Shout out to the pool entertainment staff who made sure we had an exceptional day at the pool. The room we had was visually clean and of a decent size. It is more generic of a hotel room so nothing outstanding to note in terms of the room. Housekeeping was very accommodating to our special requests of replenished coffee and soaps. The value this property offers is also tremendous for a deluxe resort. While it is not in the Magic Kingdom district, it still offer most of the amenities those resorts offer however it is usually a less price. If you are considering this property and a hotel near the Magic Kingdom, I would encourage those, especially families with bigger kids (that won’t visit the Magic Kingdom as much) to look into this property as it checks off most of the boxes and is closer to 2 parks which is amazing. It was a great stay!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here the week of Christmas and would come back. We had a water view room with a beautiful view of Crescent Lake/Boardwalk area. Pros: We loved the awesome pool (shared with Beach club) hot tubs, that it is walking distance to 2 parks, our view/large deck, the gym and Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. Cons: The lack of customer service & engagement is where they are lacking. We arrived early at 7am. While on the Magical Express, we received a text that our room was ready. Great! We walk into an empty lobby and not one cast member greeted us. Felt very cold. No “hello”, “good morning”, “enjoy your stay”, etc. I get with the pandemic the need for online check-in as they don’t want to draw a crowd to the check-in area but for cast members to not even say “hi” is just wrong. In fact, our entire stay we were never greeted. Not once. There were a few other things that happened during our stay. When we entered our room of course we noticed our view of the lake but also noticed a large handprint on the glass door. Then my daughter saw a roach and killed it. We also had a problem with an allergy order at the hotel quick service restaurant. I reached out to management and received a phone call. He apologized over the phone and said he would send someone to clean the glass and spray for bugs. Someone came to spray for bugs. But when someone came to clean the glass my 19 year old was alone and didn’t want them in there. They never came back to clean the glass. Management did not follow up with me, seems like if there is a concern it should be followed through... but what do I know about guest relations. We stayed at the Riviera Resort in August and maybe that spoiled us. Every cast member we encountered at The Riviera (from luggage services to quick service) was so helpful, friendly and genuinely kind.

The thing that makes this property a five-star Disney Resort is the same thing that makes it a four-star resort by any other hotel standard: the proximity of the Yacht Club Resort to both EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios (you can walk to either) make the location ideal for a Walt Disney World vacation. However, if your plan is to spend time relaxing and "get away" for some rest, don't plan on sleeping in. Each morning you'll be greeted by a cacophony of horns from the boats in the nearby lagoon departing to and from the resorts to the theme parks. Once you come to accept that element's necessary existence (you are, after all, on a theme park property) then everything else is world class. The room, the grounds and the pools are all set up with the idea that you CAN leave to visit the parks, but you don't have to. As a matter of fact, the more time you spend on the property - the less interested you'll become in fighting crowds at a theme park. It's a great place to "just be" without having to interact with people more than you have to. We checked in automatically via the app and never had to stop by the front desk to do so. It's a stressful world right now, and chilling out at a location like this with minimal required in-person interaction is a great way to "catch your breath". Be prepared to deal with some confusion, however, when making your reservation. The hotel, Guest Services and Disney Reservations are all stuck in cycle of "the other department handles that" while they get their bearings in a COVID-19 world. It took literal hours just to get confirmation on room details prior to check-in.

Overall, we had a great trip here. The room itself was great with a view overlooking the water and nice balcony. I loved the decor and especially the hardwood floors (yuck for weird hotel carpet). The location to Hollywood Studios and Epcot are amazing!! Food and beverage ordering during covid is exceptional— we had breakfast to go from Ale and Compass each morning and loved being able to run down, grab our food and eat on the balcony. We came with three young kids and the pool was a hit. The slide from the shipwreck, the sandy beach areas and lazy river were great! Service at the pool was great. Only miss is not being able to get Beaches and Cream ice cream to go. We couldn’t get a reservation at all over 6 days and no other way to get ice cream. Overall, excellent service and beautiful room.
