Not up to Fairmont Standards

Our stay was an absolute disaster. We checked in online the day before to alert the property of our time of arrival. We=hen we got there at 2:30, the room was not ready. We were told to wait in the lobby area, and the front desk would text when room became ready. An hour later, we had to return to the front desk to inquire about our room. We had booked a Sunset building room. Upon arrival in the room which faced a road and parking area, we realized that there was intense construction going on with lots of heavy equipment and beeping noises from machinery backing up. Our room was an upgraded room. We called the front desk and were told that we could move to the main building in a room with a view of the golf course but that the room would not be ready until after 6:00pm. We left for dinner and were told our things would be moved and we would be texted when it was done. Upon returning from dinner, we had not received a text message and so we stopped at the front desk and got keys. When we reached the new room, it did not have a golf course view and was much smaller than our first room. I tried calling the front desk, but the phone in our room did not work. After finding the hotel phone number, I called and spoke to the manager on duty. He did a good job of listening to me and offered to discount the room. He also offered a sunset building room two days later. There was no turn down service because of the move, but we later learned that turn down service was at 9:30pm. Who would want that? The new room was very tired, cracked floor tiles, a phone that did not work, a sewage smell in the bath area, dirty baseboards. The worst part was that there was only about 8" between my side of the bed and the wall, and both beds were very close together. The room just could not handle two queen beds. The stay did not improve on day two. I waited 90 minutes at the pool for my check which never arrived. The hotel appeared fully staffed so I am not sure what happened there. Also, our shine was not fixed on day two either. Finally, our room was not serviced until after 4:00pm. When I called to complain, I was told that the hotel prioritized cleaning rooms where guests were checking out other than occupied rooms. Ultimately, we moved to a pool view room in the sunset building which was a huge improvement, but this property is old and not really up to Fairmont standards. The breakfast restaurant was dirty and looked more like a Chili's rather than Fairmont. There was food spilled on the floor, and the lighting was very dark. Finally, we used our drink coupons, and unlike other Fairmont's this property on;y offered basic beer, house wine, and well drinks. The waitress was extremely unfriendly. On a final note, the hair dryer in the new room died on the last morning. All in all, this stay felt like staying at a Hampton Inn with a nice pool rather than a Fairmont. Don't waste your money here.
