    3rd time to the Tucan, a great resort that has terrible food

    This is our 3rd time to the Tucan, I think we'll try another place next year though. Lots of pros -It's unique that it has a jungle in the hotel - very cool to see Howler Monkeys every day and all the critters. The beach is great, the resort is very beautiful, well kept and clean. The staff is courteous. The service is good. The drinks are good, I think. For the honest cons -For some reason every year we come back, more and more of the beach is for the "Prestige area" - about 75% now. You have to pay extra to sit there. It's now hard to find a lounge chair. The biggest con is - the food has went far downhill, maybe it's a new chef or they cut costs. If you don't care about the food, this place is a 4-5 star. I'm not a picky person -- trust me. Unfortunately the food is terrible at all of the restaurants. The buffet was good, eat there as much as you can. They have burgers and dogs on the beach - that's okay too. The restaurants - ugh. The worst being the steak house. As an example, the steaks are cut paper thin, they had wild rice (yes a giant pile of rice that nobody ate of course) and cole slaw, and beef broth out as an appetizer. Often you see the same food out 2x and it's dried out of course. For the Mexican restaurant, we ordered the nachos. It looked like what you get at the ball game or movie theater. The nachos came from a bag and the cheese sauce was canned- like tostitos or something. All in all - we had a great vacation and - just know what to expect in regards to the food.

    I will try to summarize my stay at this hotel from October 8th to 14th 2019. 1. Check in - Quick and efficient, friendly and helpful staff. My room was ready when I arrived. They offered and upgrade. I had friends who waited a few hours because they were early to arrive, so they asked later again about the upgrade and got a better price, so it might be worth waiting to accept the upgrade. 2. Rooms - I had a two double beds room. Room is a bit dated, it is basic but very well appointed. The bathroom is all marble and beautiful. The double beds are just that, doubles. Not queens or kings, so 2 people would be very 'cosy' in them. I think they are best for one person. There is also a narrow day bed that could be appropriate for a small child. There is cable TV, but only 2 english channels : Fox News and a channel called 'Sy-FY' , that shows mostly dated cheesy science fiction movies. I had WIFI in my room, so bring a small tablet to watch netflix, etc. on rainy days. 3. Resort : The resort is basically in a small jungle. There are tons of animals in there! Howler monkeys, coatimundi (so cute), agouti, iguanas, birds...it made walking to and from the pool/beach so nice. All areas are really well maintained and groomed. It was always very clean. 4. Pool/beach : I was there during low season, so there were always chairs both at the beach and at the pool. The pool area is huge, so you can find a chair near all the action (activities lead by the GREAT entertainment team, more on that later), or a more quiet area if that's what you prefer. The waitresses are always coming by to offer drinks. I suggest you tip, at least 10 pesos or more, it keeps them coming, and shows your gratitude for their great service. The beach is clean, not much seaweed at all. There are small waves, just enough to make it fun. If you are on the beach chairs, the local vendors come to offer their wares, but they are not pushy at all, a simple "no gracias", and they politely walk away, wishing you a nice day. Waitresses come around to beach chairs as well, to offer drinks. 5. Food : I've traveled quite a bit, not always in all-inclusive, but I consider myself a 'humble foodie', meaning I know good food, and not only expensive food. The food at this resort was outstanding! The buffets were by far the best resort buffets I've had. Always tons of options, many local choices. I always selected whatever fish they had at lunch and dinner because it was always super fresh and delicious. One day at lunch there was a "ceviche" bar, with about 6 different ceviches. Delicious! Fresh fruit at every meal. Great selection of fresh greens and veggies, lots of options for kids (fries, pasta, burgers etc : can't review those options as I didn't have any of those, except 4-5 fries once, which were hot and crispy). I tried 3 'a la carte' restaurants, which were all delicious, but the best was the Mexican. I do also recommend the japanese tepenyaki for the entertainment factor. But really, the buffets are so good, you don't really need to eat anywhere else! Even room service is included in your price. Never seen that before in an all-inclusive! 6. Drinks - They make good drinks here! I read some reviews about the drinks being horrible. Not true. I'm french canadian, we know our drinks! Their margaritas, both frozen and on the rocks, are great. They also make a mean mojito, as well as the regular rum and cokes, gin tonics, etc. Beer on tap is "Dox Equis". Again, please tip your waiters. They work so hard, for very little pay. If you paid 100$ a night to stay here, you are getting your food and drinks at a VERY good price! \ 7. Staff : We got nothing but great service here. Everyone was helpful, courteous, and professional. Bartenders at the beach are busy but friendly, waitresses everywhere again, very helpful and nice, front desk was helpful and always there to make your stay the best experience. 8. Entertainment : The entertainment team really is the best! You can chose to participate or not, but I really suggest you do. You will meet some of the sweetest most sincere happy people! I enjoyed the aquafit, and the evening shows. Don't miss "Boogie Night' , by far the best show I saw. A particular thank you to Sharon and Paola, who went out of their way to make me feel welcome and taken care of. The sweetest girls! If management reads this, I hope they know how fortunate they are to have such great people working for them! All in all, this is the first all-inclusive I would return to, it was that good. And remember, not all bad reviews are 'objective'. I heard many people complain about really silly stuff when I was there, like noisy waves, I kid you not!! Go to Iberostar Tucan (or Quetzal, they are connected!), you will love it!!!

    Arriving and checking in was a great experience. All the Staff were very friendly and willing to help. The grounds are very clean ,room was super clean also the restaurants I have no complaints at all . Had a super vacation. The food was also excellent, service was fantastic. I would come here again for another vacation Thanks to all the staff at the Iberostar Tucan Super People.

    Tropical winter getaway

    1week vacation with my wife. We had a room on the main floor close to the beach that was good sized with free minibar. Bed was comfortable with decent wifi. The property and amenities are nice but small since tge resort is not large so its easily walkable. Buffet was good but does get a little repetitive after a few days. We enjoyed the steak restaurant most. Japanese was also decent. We didn't go to the shows as we were tired by the evening but I don't think they were that interesting. We did a lot of yoga and workouts at the gym as well as tennis. We walked to the shopping area in PD on the day it rained. Didn't buy anything but was a nice walk. Its was a decent getaway in the middle of a frigid Canadian winter. Paid about $3500 CAD everything included.

    We stated at tbe Iberostar Tucan/ Questzal for 2 weeks from 12th September. We had the best time! The hotel and resort grounds are incredible. Everywhere is really well maintained with so much attention to detail. The pool and beach area are perfect. We had no problem with seaweed on the beach and the pool always had sunbeds available throughout the day. The food was incredible. From the buffet to the a la carte's there was so much choice and the food had so much flavour. We never got bored of the buffet and always found new foods to eat. Thr animation team worked so hard and were excellent. They were all so friendly and made sure everyone was happy and enjoying their day continuously. There were so many activities to get involved in. A special shout out to a few team members who really stood out to us for their incredible customer service and friendliness- Carlos was the best! He checked on us every day and night and made our time at the resort better. He went out of his way to help us with whatever we needed, even if it wasnt his job to do so! So friendly. Rodrigo was also so friendly. He would also check on us and got us involved in the daily activities. Both would make sure we had everything we needed and went out of their way to help us! Diana around the pool from the pool bar worked so hard. She came round to us constantly refilling our drinks. She worked all day in the heat yet she always seemed happy. We had tbe best holiday. We couldnt fault it at all (other then Thomas Cook going bust). I would go back to the Iberostar without question. From the resort to the location to the staff members....it was amazing!!
