COVID-19: An Update on Hiring
In October, 2021, WestJet implemented a COVID-19 vaccination policy to align with the federal government’s vaccine requirements. With the safety of all our WestJetters and guests as a priority at that time, all active WestJetters and new hires were expected to be fully vaccinated as a result.
On June 14, 2022, the WestJet Group welcomed the announcement from the federal government suspending the vaccine requirements for federally regulated employees effective June 20, 2022.
The WestJet Group is pleased to be able to align our internal requirements and suspend our vaccination policy for all current WestJetters (active/inactive/LOA) and for future hires, effective June 27, 2022. This relaxation of federal vaccination requirements is however considered a suspension only, and not a dissolution. What that means is that should the federal government reinstate the vaccine requirement, so too will the WestJet Group.
We are cautiously optimistic that this suspension signifies the end of the pandemic and believe it is the right time, from a safety perspective, to be able to make this change.
