My family and I visited here for 14 nights in August and will definitely be returning here in the future, all the staff were amazing very attentive and very welcoming and helpful Ngina on reception and Derek and Romario to name 2 from the bar were awesome nothing was too much and any help was provided at the drop of a hat if needed, the family room with see view was stunning lots of space and great views , the pool was just the right size for us (kids aged 5,8&10) and the sea was great warm and clear great snorkelling and lots to see, the water sports team are great too , always offering to put up a umbrella for shade when on the beach.

Relaxing tropical getaway with extremely friendly staff and wonderfull food.

Myself and my boyfriend had 10 amazing night at the Sugar Bay Barbados hotel. The holiday started off with a great welcome by the staff at the front desk, a cold compress and a cocktail to freshen up before being taken to our room. Our bell boy was very informative about the hotel and gave some top tips about the restaurant times, his favourite locations around the island and showed us how to operate the safe. Hotel: The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated, fresh towels daily and fantastic complementary toiletries from ‘the white company’ **Nice touch**. Although the hotel its self appears to be small at first this quickly fades away when experiencing the attentiveness from the staff which made the experience feel so much more personal. You had the option of spending our day by the pool, complimented with a swim up pool bar (10am opening) and soft padded sun loungers to soak up the sun or have that fresh tropical breeze and relax by the soft waves of the sea. Either location you have a short walk from all the facilities and are not far from a fresh rum drink!! The whole hotel was kept clean and tidy on a daily basis. Food: What can I say about the food apart from 'explosion of flavour', initially on view of the buffet I thought that there was not a huge selection of dishes, however the phrase quality over quality is clearly the correct words to use to describe the food here. From breakfast, lunch and dinner the food was to a high standard, prepared well and super tasty. **don't expect to keep your bikini body** Colin's bar is also a great mini break from the buffet and served some home foods, such and burgers and chips but you can also get the island feel with fish and local dishes. **Lunch only, 12 noon until 4pm** All the staff in the restaurants were amazing and very friendly. They were happy to find you a table where ever you wanted to sit, inside or outside. NO ask was too big for the staff when assisting you to have a great dining experience. Sizzle Steak house - We made two trips to the Steak house and both visits did not disappoint, the steak was cooked exactly to our specification and the sides, starters and dessert also did not fail to tingle our taste buds. Chicken lollypop and fish taco are a must for the starters. UMI Japanese restraint - For someone who does not like mush fish I was dubious about having the sushi, however I have to give everything a go..... and I'm glad I did!!! WOW I have since come home to buy my own sushi making kit to attempt to make sushi half as nice as that available at UMI. Highly recommend the Salmon and tuna sushi !! Staff: We were lucky to meet some lovely people during out stay at the hotel who had already become familiar with the staff at the hotel which only made our experience even better. The whole 10 days felt like a massive party with chat and laughter, including the fantastic staff engaging in our fun. ** it was nice to see staff who actually looked like they enjoyed their job and wanted to be working with the public **. I have nothing but positive words to speak about ALL the staff at Sugar Bay Barbados however a few stood out and made our holiday extra special. Derek - That thousand-watt smile!! You will spot him a mile off and it will draw you in!! What an amazing bar man and real gentleman. Derek worked both at the bar and The aLzy Mongoose pub making his delicious drinks... Derek was happy to make anything you wanted on the menu or would make something a little more special to fit what you fancy.... and his 'special drinks' did not disappoint! Derek you kept our Pool party alive and kicking where we all had an extremely good afternoon!! If you are lucky enough to meet Derek ask him about his magic trick.... i may have had a few cocktails prior to these tricks but ****mind blown**** !! Romario - What an absolute GEM!! Ramario is the little brother you all want, Romaria also works as part of the bar staff!! Just like Derek, Romaria has magic powers when it comes to making cocktails, Mudslides being my favourite, closely followed by his Rum Sour! Romario could not do enough to make your experience special and always put a smile on your face when he was working. Romaria worked hard in making you feel like a valued guest and will engage in discussions and activities to make you feel that Sugar Bay was your home from home. It was hard not to take him home in my suitcase when i left!! Akeel - Akeel was working around the hotel completing a number of jobs, cleaning and topping up the drinks in the bar!! All i can say is what a fantastic worker and funny guy! Although his role does not directly put customer service at the front, he sure made this his priority. Akeel was very friendly and chatty providing information of the best spots to see around the island that can be experienced by both locals and tourists. Akeel would make a fantastic part of the bar staff as he has the chat and charisma to make all quests feel welcome and special. Although all staff were amazing these boys did step up the game, thank you so much for a fantastic holiday, 10 days was certainty not enough!! We hope you see you guys very soon!! An amazingly relaxing week at Sugar Bay - thanks to all that work there - you made our stay perfect. Special thanks to the security guard for sharing the knowledge on the Turtles !! Amazing snorkeling off the beach with lots of different fish to be seen. Overall a lovely well looked after resort - very friendly people - nothing to much effort - looking forward to returning in the future.

Nothing else to say really. Our second visit and still sensational! Service, food, staff, quality, kids club. Overall package great for a family with different needs. Stayed in may resorts in Barbados, Antigua etc and this one suits us the best by far.

Booking - 5/5 Good online info but I decided to come in person to finalise my booking. Jalisa is a star! By the time she'd finished her tour of the rooms; pleasantly chatting away the whole time, I was sold. Customer service is a big deal to me. This has always been my industry in one way or another and she is an asset to the team. Check in - 5/5 Keisha was the gem at front desk when I arrived the next day to actually check in. All of the imagined effervescence of a winning reception agent and then some. I can't call her a receptionist or a front desk clerk. We need new nomenclature here... Staycation Activator? She was so ready to get my vacation started, how could I not go along for the ride?! Food - 8/5 That's right! 8 out of 5. Exceeded expectations in ways I couldn't have imagined. I travel for work extensively so when I'm on vacation I am reticent to fly so a good staycation is a win for me. I have therefore booked and often enjoyed many staycations in Barbados but the food at all-inclusives is usually the weak link. Meal choices are often minimal, taste basic to mediocre with excellence being a surprise. It's like the property knows I'm trapped and I can either accept their food or go off site... Sugar Bay`s food and beverage teams are the jewel in the crown. Every hostess was welcoming - especially Jo-Disha and Tanisha who greeted me by name and remembered various preferences. Every server or member of the dining team was thoughtful, friendly and helpful. ~ Breakfast - varied and delightful. Staples like pork sausage, pancakes, egg station, bacon and fruit section (plus more standard fare) will satisfy the norm and the foundational palate. But look out for spinach fritters, saltfish, bakes, chicken liver.... These were exciting, tasty and expose guests to the Bajan and Caribbean experience. In my case, they triggered happy, nostalgic memories. ~ Lunch.... Same! Local and international dishes combined beautifully on a well stocked, varied buffet. Every bite designed to sate even the most discerning tastebud. If you're lucky... There's live music. I was enthralled by a really talented steel pannist for my final lunch in Sunday. ~ Dinner - guests are entitled to one reservation at each of the specialty restaurants. Both of those were exceptional. I've dined at both Umi and Sizzle Steakhouse before as a regular patron. When I was handed a smaller menu and realised that the menu was a reduced one for the all-inclusive package I was briefly worried. I needn't have been. Guests are offered a solid range of menu items to still get that speciality experience. Nice balance Sugar Bay! Extra points to Sizzle though... Cocktails on point, amaaaaazing steaks cooked to medium with accuracy and every other item on our plates a veritable gastronomic delight. Kerri-Ann our hostess led a great team and was a sweetheart herself. After my partner had to leave the staycation early, I knew I could only dine at the standard dinner restaurant for the remainder of my stay as I'd used up my speciality bookings to experience them with her. That night, no regrets. That Southern. Fried. Chicken! Amazing! They also outdid themselves in desserts. I swear.... Choux pastry with berries and white chocolate are my new guilty pleasure. I'm aware I've spoken alot about food..... It's warranted I promise. Accommodation - 3.5/5 Super comfortable bed, great colours and I love the choice of beach chairs, cabanas, hammocks etc for sun lounging. I'd recommend a security feature on the inside. The lack of a deadbolt or door chain for nighttime security was a bit unnerving. I'd also recommend a cover of some kind for the closet. If not a door, maybe a sheer covering. Something to take it out of view. A shelf in the shower would be nice along with some cotton buds or such amenities. Fitness centre - 6/5 With all that food goodness you need to work out. It is truly a fully equipped gym. Hotels often say that but give you one treadmill, 8 free weights and a multi function machine. This was everything from a spin bike, trx set up, loads of other cardio equipment, two types of multi-fuction stations (cable type and leg press/pull down setup type), wall balls, proper thick mats, free weights, kettle bells and.... wait for it.... Barbells! Plus more! Happiness reigns. Sugar Bay doesn't control the water which was oddly warm and silky and glorious each time. But, it does govern training. Every single employee with whom I interjected was courteous at the mininum to charismatic at the upper end. Special credit to Dylan who always had a smile to spare and to the engaging beach team. Forever grateful and I can see this will be an annual event!
