Our stay did not start very well since they gave us two rooms in different floors. We booked a few months in advance. They corrected the issue the next day. I was very pleased with the staff. No activities except for the shows. The place was clean. I will give more details for each area of the resort.

Have just spent two great weeks at Sugar Bay Hotel. It matched everything on the description and more and certainly exceeded our expectations. From the minute we arrived we knew were in for a great holiday. One slight glitch when we arrived was that we found that we had been booked into a single room, which had virtually no room for two people staying for a fortnight. Reception and bookings went into action and in no time at all we were allocated the correct room. The hotel has a colonial feel to it in its structure and has the most wonderful beach and grounds, with so many different plants and shrubs which are tended everyday. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, bottled water put in the fridge everyday and an iron and ironing board (which we always think is a bonus). A nice balcony with a nice view, what more could we want. One area of the hotel is the swimming pool and the very comfortable pool beds that surround it and also the swim up pool bar which is popular. Reserving beds is not encouraged. For us, the beautiful sandy beach was our main focus with the beautiful crystal clear sea, sun beds and beach umbrellas which were put up by the friendly Watersports team every morning. Throughout the day, bar staff came around frequently to ask if any drinks were required. We felt very spoilt. The food is buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfasts are excellent with plenty of choice for everyone ( make sure you go to the lovely Petol who makes the best omelets around and she will give you a big laugh and smile every morning) For lunch and dinner there plenty of salads, fruit and at least four or 5 main courses to choose from. Unlike many All Inclusive hotels, the buffet is not large and extensive, but the food is so fresh, and there is always something for everyone to choose from. They hold theme nights each night so there is always a change of food. British night is good old Beef and Yorkshire puds and all the trimmings. Additionally, you can make bookings to go to either the Sizzles Steak House or Uma the Asian Restaurant. We stuck to the steak house and what a great welcome we had and such fabulous food (the fillet steak is to die for). Our thanks to the team there for helping us to celebrate my wife's birthday, especially: Marlon (our excellent and happy bar tender), Marisa our hostess and the waiting team of Nicki, Joshua (an excellent waiter) and Javeer. Thank you all it was a great pleasure to visit you. In the Reef Buffet, our very special thanks must go to Tanisha (The hostess with the mostest and lovely smile), Joy Ann, Crystal B, Dubarry and indeed all the others who looked after us. You were so attentive, professional, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble for you. All the names we have mentioned are great Ambassadors for this hotel and we hope they will be recognised for this. Lastly, and sad to end on a sour note-the flights. We flew with TUI on the Dreamliner and were looking forward to the trip. Drinks served, we came to the main meal. This resembled a meal that resembled that that would be given to a child. Small, with a bread roll, some small bits of cheese and a small dessert and certainly unappetising. The same happened on the flight back, albeit, with an even worse meal (some soggy pasta and a few bits of chicken. Horrible and many of the passengers echoed our sentiments. The last straw was announcing we were being served a breakfast muffin. This came hot in a bag and was literally just dropped on our trays by staff, without any finesse, who seemed to race through the plane just to get the service over. This for me was the catalyst which will ensure I do not book or fly with TUI again. Apart from that. Sugar Bay is an amazing place that we want to go back to again as soon as we can and are still relishing memories of those lovely warm days on the sunny beach.

Sugar Bay is ahead of the class. From check in to check out, the service and amenities are top notch! You will not be able to find a friendlier and hospitable environment at any establishment. The people make this place. The welcoming feeling and hospitality are amazing. I cannot state that enough. The beach is large and there are enough cabanas, hammocks, chairs etc. for everyone. The pool has tiered levels and lots of room for kids to play and adults to sit at the bar. The food is fresh and the buffet has the perfect amount of options (not to big where you are overwhelmed). If you have children, there are amazing staff and accommodations to keep the little ones occupied under a watchful eye while you enjoy some relaxation. The spa is great and there are activities for everyone. Highly recommended.

As per all previous reviews, the staff make this hotel what it is. They are all a credit! A special mention for the gardeners, they work so hard keeping the grounds beautiful and a haven for wildlife. The food is awesome, theres not a massive daily selection but its definitely quality over quantity. There was something new every day and we loved trying it all, it was all cooked beautifully. We dined at Umi and Sizzle but our favourite was lunch at Colin's - fried chicken and macaroni pie - awesome. We had a cooked breakfast every day (occasionally they didn't have sausages out but always had crispy bacon) with smoked salmon and fresh fruit. We totally agree with some other reviews that the hotel would be best as an adults only. There is not a lot for the kids to do, it's so chilled out but there's plenty to do outside the hotel - we did a catamaran trip, jeep safari tour of the island and Oistins shuttle, all arranged seamlessly by the concierge at the hotel. We also used the reggae bus for a day trip to Bridgetown, we felt so safe and the locals are so friendly. The beach itself is beautiful. The sea can be quite choppy at times, and we did have a few days of seaweed but that's nature for you. It still didn't stop us enjoying the sea. There are rocks but we managed well enough without the need for shoes. The water is that clear you can see them, along with all the fish. Our only gripe would be the hot water. We only had 4 evenings of hot showers in our 14 night stay, despite numerous calls to reception. We know they are updating their water system so no amount of our moaning would fix it immediately. As it was our honeymoon, we were given a 30 min massage voucher each. My other half had never had a massage, he loved it. The prices are very reasonable too. The self-serve coffee machine (bean) was a great touch and most appreciated when you're not quite used to the time difference. We did notice that a lot of guests did nothing but moan. We cant understand what anyone would have to moan about - you're on holiday?! People comparing it to Sandy Lane, well Sugar Bay is a more reasonable price, its on a different coast so the sea isn't as calm.....and I bet the staff up there wouldn't treat you half as well as they do at Sugar Bay. All in all, yes there are areas on the ground that need a lick of paint but who's on holiday for that?! We are very happy we picked here for our honeymoon and thank you for a great stay!

My wife and I recently stayed here choosing Sugar Bay after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. The resort exceeded expectations. Checkin went smoothly during which we were served with drinks (a refreshing rum punch went down a treat). Our cases were portered to our room which was lovely being a ground floor ocean fronted double. There were fresh flowers arranged in the towels and the room was well decorated and furnished. The bathroom had a large walkin shower. Towels were changed and the room made up each day. The patio overlooked the beach with some flowering shrubs which humming birds visited all day long. All the accommodation, private and public, was very clean. We chose to eat at the self service buffet for our meals which had plenty of choice (my wife is vegetarian). The fruit was particularly fresh (the pineapple melted in your mouth). You could choose to eat either in the restaurant or on the adjoining terrace. Staff are very attentive and friendly. We chose to swim in the sea rather than the pool because we snorkelled each day. The rocks that had been placed offshore formed a good breakwater from the waves and provided a lagoon maximum 1.50m deep. This made swimming a lot easier and was accessible each day, but there is still a bit of current to be aware of. There are lots of fish species to be seen, especially near the rocks. Please note that there are also lots of sea urchins too. Sun loungers are abundant and no need to have towels put on them from early morning. Beach staff will exchange your towels and also erect a parasol for you. If you prefer calmer, gentle waters you will find them at Pebbled Beach which has full facilities, a 20 minute stroll either following the coastal path between the police station and the Garrison or follow the main road. There is entertainment each night ranging from a floor show to live music. Dancing is on the terrace in front of the stage. The entertainment is as good as you will find in any of the resorts so enjoy yourself. Direct transfer from the airport takes about 30 minutes. Taxis are available from the airport entrance with a regulated fare of 40 BDS. Reception will book a taxi for the return but this will cost 50 BDS?? We used the buses (government blue buses are infrequent but the "reggae" buses are running all the time) with the bus stop just outside the hotel gatehouse. Fares are 2BDS regardless of distance. We used them to go to Bridgetown and Speightstown. This is a lovely resort with a great beach and grounds. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
