    Our 5th Trip to Iberostar Colonial!

    Since Hurricane Irma, this resort has been diligently rebuilding with the resources they have. This does not change the allure of the little city and how amazing the staff is. The staff makes it all worth while along with the beautiful layout of the oldest resort on Cayo Coco! Luckily, it didn't receive as much damage as others. We have dear friends who work at this resort and enjoy visiting them every March. I wish we could visit more often! The beach is beautiful, however, we did notice a lot of garbage and ocean fauna that could be better maintained. Our room was fine. I am a single mother who travels with my 12 year old daughter (she would be very upset if we did not vacation at our home away from home in March, as would I!!) and my parents actually discovered this resort through a travel agent so we have made it an annual trip with them. We have never looked back. We LOVE Cayo Coco and all of our friends at the Colonial. We have done all of the excursions available and would recommend all of them! I would love to list the names of our dear friends and I am sure I will miss some of you...Yuneidy (maid..we have been to her home and love her dearly!), Yanetsy (currently working at the Yarey), Omar (lobby bar), Liber (Yarey grill, so sad his tower is closed! Him and Yanetsy worked so hard to open it!), Felix (beach), Humberto (up and coming server in the buffet!), Arnaldo (one of my favourite cooks!) And the animation team (joni, orlando and friends!) Michel in administration and the lovely ladies at the Reception! I know I have missed a few names, but we love all of the staff at Colonial so very much. Thank you for your service. We have noticed a significant change and sometimes for the better, but sometimes not! Although the Staff remains the highlight of this beautiful resort, there are a handful of guests who travel here that really bring the vibe down...Welcome to the first timers...please consider returning! Unfortunately, we witnessed a group of obnoxious Russians who truly felt the need to occupy the resort with their demands and entitlement. It was so sad to see our friends put on a smile to appease these people. They were pushy, butting into lines, WASTING A TON OF FOOD, demanding immediate service, grabbing cutlery from the buffet, walking behind the server station to get wine...it was so incredibly obnoxious. How do you behave in a restaurant in your country? I hope you don't expect that entitlement because that would create chaos. It all came to a climax one night at the buffet. So glad management was involved because all of the guests had enough of their crap but didn't want to say anything...including the other Russian guests who weren't associated with this group, but were clearly embarrassed by their actions. One of the waitstaff, Barbara, was called a "prostitute" by the leader of the Russian group because she wouldn't give in to their demands. They actually would enter the buffet and push tables together to suit their group. Thanks for standing up for yourself Barbara!! We love you! I literally stood up and clapped when they were evicted from the buffet. I couldn't be more proud of how management handled the situation to protect their staff and guests. Beyond disgusting how some people treat others. Despite that, we had a great trip. Be kind to the staff and you will receive the service you deserve. Just because it is all inclusive, doesn't mean you can belittle the staff and expect service. Yes, they work for tips, but if you treat them like second class citizens, they aren't above rejecting your demands. If I was in their position, I would not cater to you immediately if you were demeaning or demanding. We care about our friends and wish you would too. Drop them a peso every once and a while...despite their hardships in their daily lives, they will always smile and accommodate you. Just be nice for goodness sake...they aren't slaves. Having said all that, my family and I LOVE this resort. We love it because of the staff, the beach, the welcome home feel we get every time we return. We will return every year because we have found our home away from home and it is because of our friends.

    Beautiful Architecture and Beach

    We've been going to the Colonial since 2006 so we've seen lots of changes. It's design makes you feel like you're in a small village and not in a resort that could be anywhere. The staff are amazing and without them the current difficulties they are having with maintenance (hot water and AC) would make us think twice about returning. However we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will definitely be back. I would encourage the hotel to do a bit more clean up on the beach (weeds and trash removal). The trees and vegetation are slowly coming back from the hurricane and we look forward to our second home regaining it's lost lustre. Thanks again to all our friends who made us feel welcome and went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay.

    Tania Franco gives incredible service with years of experience as store manager. She is in touch with current trends and listens to your needs. An avid cigar connoisseur, she wil be able to guide through all of your purchases, from cigars to rum!!!

    The area is great, the rooms are nice. But the service is appalling. Unless you are into giving a tip for everything you ask, get ready to be treated like they are doing you a favor. The amount we pay was good but I think it’s unacceptable that you have to tip for asking for a cocktail when you have paid for a all inclusive service. And ah, when I say cocktails, I just remember ... they say they have a variety of drinks but pina colada wasn’t available most of the time , mojitos the same .. At buffet it takes ages to ask for drinks and if you are a big group they will forget the drinks you ordered. Most of the times I felt like the staff was mocking me. Also, you ask for or something that run out? “Sorry don’t have more”. And then you have staff eating whilst on service , you are in a queue and if someone with a tip comes after you they will be served first. All inclusive! You are offered a coconut , you say yes. They give it you. After you drink they will ask you for money .. LOL We had issues with our room. Water all over the toilet. We reported it day before we left. We left the hotel and the problem wasn’t solved . Ridiculous. Left a complaint at the reception before I left. Any reply? NOTHING. They don’t care. would not recommend at all UNLESS you don’t mind paying tips for everything. M

    Stayed at the Colonial the week of March 25 to April 1 all I can say is what an amazing staff that works there. It was my 12th time to Cuba and I have enjoyed every trip but this is the first time I felt compelled to write a review. From the moment we arrived it felt like home. The guys at the front desk checked us in fast gave us a map and directions to our room asked if we needed to exchange any money very helpful and thoughtful as they were all week with anything we needed eg change or wifi cards. The resort itself has such a different feel its like being in a little city not a resort loved that aspect about it. Our room was 2367 near the front lobby and all the stores cant complain about anything it was clean ,had a\c and the water pressure was good .The food was good cant complain even my wife who isn't the biggest fan of the food in Cuba found it to be good .We did the lobster diner one night for 20cuc highly recommend it .The beach is beautiful lots of chairs not very busy .Love the variety of pools so many options to grab a drink grab a chair and chill out. The staff at the colonial make it a great place. All week whatever we did or went staff were smiling saying hello ready to assist if you needed anything cant say enough about all of them amazing .Will definitely be returning to the colonial cheers
