This comfortable, decent sized resort, is a little older but has all the basic amenities needed for a great holiday. We purchased the upgraded room and it was spacious, close to the beach, on the waterfront and but had a small deck with a little table and chairs. The scenic beach is the length of the resort and the sand is easy to walk on. The water is warm and it doesn’t drop off too fast. The grounds are beautiful and easy to get around. We took the walking nature tour and enjoyed it. The weather held a mix of clouds, clear skies, wind and rain. The temperature was over 28 – 34 every day so even when it rained it was still hot and humid. There are 4-5 restaurants to choose from and make a reservation, though we always got in when we didn’t have a reservation anyway. The food was very good at all of the locations, even the buffet which did not require bookings, was always good with a different theme each day. They also have a limited but good wine list available for purchase. The pizza and snack bars had great burgers, fries and jerk chicken. There were two different pools, a quiet one and a party/music/games pool as well. Depending upon the day, we enjoyed both of them. I felt that they played the music too loud at the party pool. We are not early risers and we were able to find decent locations on loungers (which had great cushions that were very comfortable) when we did head down to the pool and/or beach. The tree bar was a great place for us to meet new people and get a drink. The service was good but at times you did have to wait but all staff were eager to help and did their best to accommodate your needs. Pros: the beach, the food, beach chairs, free wifi in the rooms, great service, easy to get around for size, beautiful views, jerk chicken, Silver Bird Band, Adults only Cons: the elevators, few premium drink choices, tips expected, the weather, showers run hot and cold, loud music, house wine not great Hints: Try the jerk chicken and pizza, go to The Dunn’s River Waterfall, couples massage is nice

We really enjoyed our time at Jewel Dunn river! I read some reviews about the food being poor, but honestly I have no idea what those people we talking about! This might have been the best resort food I’ve ever experienced. We ate jerk chicken, pizza everyday and drank blended ice coffee! ?? all of the restaurants were great. The staff was great, special shout-out to Marcia, Hakeem, uvel, and a few others I can’t remember there names ??????? We went to the spa and had a couples massage with hot stones and a coffee body scrub. The treatment was very good, massage therapists had great pressure and technique. but the room is very cold. A heated mattress pad would really enhance this experience. The coffee scrub was very abrasive and uncomfortable during application. In photos of the resort the beach looks incredible. Unfortunately when you get there it’s a bit disappointing. They only let you in a small roped area to swim. Both sides of the resort are managed my security and fences which feels very restrictive as it’s only a small beach. locals are constantly whistling and shouting at guests to come to the fence to buy weed and other “treasures”. (Which by the way, if your looking for weed go to KAYA very close by. Do not buy from locals - poor quality) Security will not allow you to go outside of these fenced areas, and you have to sign out to exit the resort.

Just returned after out 5th visit to Jewel and can't wait to go back. Once again the staff is the reason we return year after year, I can not say enough how much I love Dameon, Garnett, Andrew, Judy, Basil and all te other bar staff. Also a special thank you to Voshon and Kim who went out of thier way to make our day better after messed up excursion. There are some thing with the new management that I am not a fan of such as the fact that the piano bar is not open during the day, and the entertainment seems to be cut back though I still love Jason and alll the other entertainment staff. The staff at this resort has become like family to me and as long as they are there I will be back again

Absolutely gorgeous resort & beach. From day 1, however, the beauty & shine of this resort began to dull based upon the poor staff service we received. Upon arriving at resort, we were greeted by a very unprofessional/rude baggage-handler. We waited nearly 1.5 hours to get checked in by a very unorganized desk staff that just sat a tray of rum punch cocktails in front of our group and told us to wait. Our room was nice, but was on 3rd floor of a building with a broken elevator for duration of stay. Food was mediocre at best, and we had one absolutely horrible experience at outdoor grill one pm upon ordering a chicken sandwich, where chicken that came off grill was simply chopped up bone & all, and piled onto a bun. Drastically understaffed bars, with odd hours, resulted in extremely slow drink service being the norm. Last complaint resides with the water-sports equipment manager being unfriendly & unhelpful, refusing to let us take out a Hobie cat, claiming "no wind" when flags were clearly up & blowing. Further, just on the other side of the fence by the watersports facility, at edge of Jewel's property, were a number of "dealers" trying to lure us over. Jewel is a beautiful piece of property, but this kind of trash needs to be cleaned up and it's staff needs major polishing if it truly wants to be considered an elite all-inclusive resort. Stayed at a Sandals the previous time in Jamaica, and it was a night & day difference in service quality than at Jewel. Loved Sandals!
