Average but somewhat disappointing experience; not worth the price if not golfing
ctcaldroney (Alexandria, Virginia) on Mar 01, 2024
Overall, our stay at the Doubletree Palm Springs was mixed. Given the room rate, resort charges and the fact that we aren't golfers it wasn't a good value for our money. Pros: 1) Staff: Overall, the staff were very pleasant and responsive to our needs (with one exception described below). Particular kudos to the maintenance/engineering staff; we had a few issues with our room (slow drain in the shower, smell of gas on our patio) and they responded quickly and effectively. The bar/restaurant staff were also very attentive and pleasant. 2) Location & Parking: While not in the heart of Palm Springs, the location was fairly convenient and offered ample parking. 3) Pool: The pool was sizable with ample lounges and two hot tubs; we spent several relaxing, enjoyable afternoons enjoying the sun here. 4) Room: The room was a decent size (with a large bathroom and dual sinks). Cons: 1) Check-in: We arrived two hours early, and after speaking with the Front Desk waited in the bar until check-in. However, it still took a further 1/2 hour for our room to be ready. We understood that it was a busy day, but given that we'd been waiting two hours (and that my Diamond status was noted when we first spoke with the desk), the additional delay was frustrating. We also didn't receive any of the check-in welcome items when we finally received our room. - On a related note, this was the first time in 10+ years of extensive travel staying in Hilton properties that I have NOT felt appreciated or valued as a Diamond member. 2) Front Desk: Our experience here was mixed; in addition to the check-in experience, we didn't feel that the front desk was particularly supportive or attentive to our concerns. For example, when requesting extra pillows for our king bed, we got some push-back initially. Some staff were more helpful than others, but overall we didn't get a lot of help. 3) Dining: The website described the Polanco Kitchen as a venue that "serves up gourmet Californian cuisine from fresh, healthy salads to fish tacos." However, it turns out that it only offers a breakfast buffet; the only lunch/dinner option was the Mira Bar. At $22/person, the Polanco Kitchen seemed over-priced (particularly as we've had almost exactly the same buffet at Hampton Inns included in the rate). 4) Room: The room appeared dated, and lacked some expected features. In particular, we were suprised and disappointed that while we had a refrigerator there was no microwave (which feels standard in many comparable hotels). Also, the TV's guide function was effectively useless, and the TV didn't offer any Bluetooth connectivity or options for streaming. Finally, the towels were noticeably worn/thin. If we'd played a few rounds of golf, we may have gotten a lot more out of our stay here. However, since we weren't, it felt like we spent a lot of money for an average (and highly mixed) experience. We intend to return to Palm Springs; we do NOT intend to stay at this hotel again (and will likely explore Airbnb options instead).
Nice place, disappointing service

The hotel is in need of some freshening up, but has a great bar. Our stay was good, but the coffee machine in our room was broken. I went to the front desk and told them about it yesterday morning. The man there made a note, but it was never fixed or replaced.i realize that may seem a small thing, but when you wakeup and want coffee...well, you want coffee. Everything breaks, that's not a problem. The fact that the hotel didn't respond was the problem. That was really disappointing and not the Hilton standard I have been used to, as a Diamond member. Surprising.
Horrible customer service, outdated hotel air-conditioning doesn’t work

Do not stay at this hotel under any circumstance! It’s outdated to begin with. Our room air conditioner was not working when I called to get a room change. They told me they would call me back and let me know what they could do. After 15 minutes I had to call the front desk to find out the status. They didn’t answer the phone and I had to call four times. They finally answered the call and told me they could upgrade me to a room with a pool view, I already was in a room with a pool view. We are currently in a king bed, so they’re upgrade comes with two queen beds. Not sure how that is an upgrade. when I asked how they could make it right they said there was nothing they could do. They could send an engineer to come check the air conditioning. in hospitable and not helpful. Do not stay at this hotel.
Great Location, Great Staff, Expansive Room!

For our anniversary my wife and I traveled to Palm Springs, and stay in the adjacent city of Cathedral City at the Double Tree Golf Resort Palm Springs. The hotel stay was great. The two best parts of the experience there were two things-the room in which we stayed, and the staff. We happened to stay in a suite on the third floor. My goodness: it was definitely spacious (two bathrooms!) and the views-just incredible, with the golf course and mountains clearly visible from the wrap-around balcony. If you just needed a getaway, this was the room. Regular rooms above the 1st floor have a smaller balcony with the same views; I thought I saw a fire pit for the 1st floor rooms. If you get the suite, make sure you ask the desk clerk for the golf course wing. So, here's what surprised me-the rooms don't have microwaves-at least ours didn't; that was a hassle, even though there's one by the canteen in the lobby. And, despite us staying three nights, they didn't clean the rooms. Also, there wasn't an exhaust fan in our main bathroom. There is a resort fee that I wasn't sure why guests have to pay if they weren't planning to golf but, yeah, profit I guess. Hence, my 4/5 star rating for these things. I have to say, our trip was made SO much more pleasant because of the lobby/desk staff. We had an EXCELLENT clerk, Sarah, who booked us in and with whom we interacted over the course of the stay. She was courteous, personable, and efficient. It seemed like she enjoyed her job and I loved that. She was assisted by Mr. Ulysses and Ms. Samantha, who made us feel welcomed, too. Also, shout out to the chef-each day guests get warm cookies and bottles of water! A nice touch. We rented a car and were able to travel a bit in the area, including visiting The Palm Springs Aerial Tram-a wonderful experience about 15-20 minutes away! [BTW, the entry fee was $31 per person, but if you pay for lunch it's $41-and the lunch was wonderful, too.] I would definitely stay at this location again. [BTW, I am copying this review to other sites in case you see it again.]
Disappointing, bad customer service

Very disappointing experience. Me and my family were super excited to spend our getaway here and unfortunately the experience was by far not what we expected from a 4 star Hilton Hotel. Room: 2/5 We had a lower level room that was facing a wall which was fine but the piano music from the property was so loud we couldn't fall asleep until later in the night. The lock doesn't latch on so they had this pole that stops the door from sliding from the outside. I've hit my head several times trying to lock this. AC was extremely loud, bedding was not comfortable and the some lamps were not working throughout the room. You can hear conversations next door and hear people talking in the hallway loud and clear. Service: 1/5 Once we found out we had issues with our room. We went to the front desk to speak with the agent because they weren't picking up the phones. Samantha from the front desk, did not even greet us, not even a "hi how are you or hi how can I help you" she just looked at me and expected me to start the conversation. After I notified her of the issues, she not only did not apologize at all but had told me to come back at 4pm to check if there's other rooms available but said it's not guaranteed. She then finally called the engineer to come fix the light but nothing else was fixed. I was only staying for one night thankfully so I let the other issues go. I have stayed at many Hilton hotels before, 3 - 5 stars and even a 3 star hotel had better customer service. This seems like a lack of training or she was just in a bad mood. But how she spoke to me WAS NOT expected from Hilton standard. Then I tried ordering room service but I had to call 4x in order to be able to reach someone. My Caesar salad was $31 and it was meh. Location: 4/5 Good location, you are about 15mins from downtown Palm Springs and you can conveniently walk through the hotel to the golf course. Hotel: 3/5 Needs updating Overall, I was very disappointed with the experience and how I was treated by their front desk team specifically Samantha. I will not recommend or will I stay here again. I would suggest staying at other hotels in the area.
