NOT as Good as Last Year

We visited La Perla last winter and these are our comments in comparison 1) The resort was much busier than last year, there was a huge corporate conference there all week and it was much louder/rowdier with large heavy drinking guys attending the conference, one of them said there were over 500 people attending the conference, we noticed many of them put towels down on chairs first thing in the morning before their daily conference began in order to hold the chairs all day long so they would have a premium spot on the beach when the daily conferences ended at 3:30, which we thought was extremely selfish. 2) The food was not as good this time and some dishes were bland, they also change the menu's at the Grill, Olio, Market Grill and LaPalapa to remove higher end cuts of beef such as NY striploin and tenderloin which was very, very disappointing, clearly a cost cutting venture, several steaks we tried were not very good and many cuts were unrecognizable such as "flap meat steak". Cheap cuts... We actually left our plates at Olio as the beef "filet" was very tough and clearly not a tenderloin filet, unfortunate. 3) Evening entertainment was not as good either with limited live music, not sure if this was due in part by the conference but we found ourselves in our room earlier than I would have liked each evening 4) NO seaweed this time!!! the water was beautiful and great for swimming ! 5) Service was very good and mostly all of the staff is very friendly and helpful. 6) All of the pools water (except the royal pool) was too cold for swimming and I didn't swim in the pools at all, the ocean water was much warmer in comparison, I believe heated water at a 5* should be mandatory, a std. swim up room would have been useless... 7) No Lobster anywhere Overall I would give it a strong 3.5 Stars this time, we had a great time, the room and beach was excellent but the cost cutting measures is unfortunate and would have me considering alternate options next year...

I traveled with my husband for business and we extended for a couple days. First of all, I want to give shout-outs to Miguel, Manuel and Irene on the beach. They bust their butts to give good service. Miguel was fantastic and a pleasure to talk with every day. The resort is beautiful inside and out, and the beaches and ocean were clean and thankfully seaweed-free during our stay. The pools and grounds looked amazing... we didn’t try the pools because... the beach! There were some broken umbrellas that did get fixed after a few days. Our room was a one-bedroom suite and really nice. We were on the top floor and as others said, not exactly ocean view because of foliage... but looking at palm trees and flowers and blue pools is pretty nice too. The food was okay. We really liked The Grill the best, and Fernando was a wonderful server. Our meals at Vento were very salty, but others did not have this issue. If you want great burgers, the Sunset Grille is your spot. We tried others (Coco Bar, which was fun) but Sunset had the best. There’s also fresh guacamole at most places we went, and it was SO good. Omelets at Hadar were great for breakfast, and Naos had delicious gelato. The service all around the resort was good. Most staff were very nice. But I will say, so many of us looked forward to seeing Miguel every day. He’s a great asset to the resort.

We returned from our wedding at Paradisus Playa Del Carmen (we had guests on both La Perla and La Esmeralda sides) and can't stop marveling at how wonderful it was. Before our trip, we were slightly nervous, since we'd never been to the resort and were relying on reviews and videos shared by others (which is why we are eager to share our own review to help with others' future decisions) The resort - from the rooms, to the restaurants to the pools and the beach were stunning. Everything is well maintained, nicely decorated and accommodating. ** one caveat is that the marble stairs around the property can be slippery and are also hard to distinguish in low light, and a couple people did slip/trip. Our friends and families are food enthusiasts and we hoped that the food at the resort would meet their standards. We did not need to worry. Everyone, including our most discerning friends, was impressed with the variety, quality and presentation of every meal. One friend has extreme dietary restrictions and she was able to work with the staff to make sure they were accommodated and she was more than satisfied. Our favorite food discovery however was the menus that we chose for our wedding events (welcome dinner, cocktail and reception.) We chose buffet options and there was literally something for everyone, presented beautifully, replenished before anyone missed anything and delicious. Our only regret as hosts was that we hardly got to eat at the events. We chose Paradisus because we wanted both family and adults only options for our guests. The family side, including the water park, pirate ship, kids club (open past 9pm!) were awesome. Parents, kids and even some of the adults from La Perla loved the atmosphere and the wonderful, friendly staff. We also worked with the hotel to arrange for babysitters the night of the wedding and everything seemed to run very smoothly. We encouraged all of our guests to book Royal Concierge or Family Concierge and we are so glad that we did. Having access to La Palapa and Olio restaurants along with the fabulous butler service (bubble bath highly recommended for kids and adults!) was well worth it. Everyone felt pampered. As the bride and groom, we truly appreciated Gilberto who was thoughtful and kind and took care of details we may never have though to ask for (including having a hot bath ready for us after the wedding which was incredible for our feet after hours of dancing) As far as the wedding itself, we can't imagine anyone not doing a destination wedding after the experience we had. Our coordinate Jaime, was amazing. He checked in with us constantly, he helped us manage the process and kept everything organized and running smoothly. We cannot thank him and the rest of the staff enough for everything they did to make the entire event so memorable. He even made sure we had a broom to jump over and a piece of glass to smash at the end of the ceremony. Jaime really went above and beyond. Each of our nearly 150 guests had such a great time and the spaces that we used for each event (Solarium Esmeralda by the pool for our welcome dinner, Pool Esmeralda area for Saturday night cocktail party, Gabi Bridge for the ceremony and Gabi Club for the wedding) felt perfectly designed for us. The areas are naturally beautiful and do not need extra flowers or decorations, although if you choose to get anything, working with Candy from Planner 1 Events was easy and she has a great selection. The resort mandates that you use their specified vendors for DJ and photography (unless you pay an additional fee) and luckily both companies were fantastic. Jorge from J&S AV was extremely helpful. we had wonderful AV people for our welcome dinner and Alex and team were so so good with the music the night of the wedding (we provided a spotify list but he mixed and mashed so well) We also truly enjoyed working with the photography and video team from Novia Mia and were amazed to get our photo website 2 days after the wedding! We love the pictures as do our guests and people who couldn't attend. We are eager to go back to Paradisus and other Melia properties based on our experience (and one of our guests planned a trip for 2 weeks later while at the resort because they loved it so much)

I expected a lot more for the price that we paid. There was only been in the mini bar which looked like wasn't getting refilled everyday. There was no coffee in the room only at the lobby and other one location was paid. Property was huge. Apparently there were two sections and we were asked to move from the beach because our bracelet was different. There were only 2 people at that area yet it was a big deal. The outside area where the beach was wasn't very clean and well taken care of.

We've stayed at about 15 of the resorts in the Riviera Maya and La Perla was in the top 4. We had La Perla Royal Service. While we didn't really take advantage of much of the royal service, we did order room service twice, use the pool (which was heated compared to the main pool) and the royal service beach area. Drinks were flowing and they actually use the liquor that is actually in the bottle - no passing off cheap stuff here. That was a plus. We ordered lunch on our beach chairs and had no issue ever finding spaces - we were a group of 8 adults. La Palapa breakfast wasn't stellar in our opinion but the Hadar Buffet was good. Our favorite restaurant was Bana and thei hibachi - we did both and they did not disappoint. We were least impressed with the Italian, which is now the Vento restaurant (this changed and is not updated on the website). We did upgrade the meal there to a Surf & Turf. Mine was fine but the other woman who upgraded got a raw steak that they took 15 more minutes to basically reheat. We loved the Martini Bar - bartender there is great and its a show in itself. Beds were comfy. We had Ocean View, RS Room 1390 - it might be the best room in the resort, - corner room, top floor of the building that faces the RS Pool. Woke up every morning to a beautiful view of the ocean, waves and Cozumel. There are only a few resorts we'd go back to and this makes the cut. Only down side - no hot tubs. It was cooler in the evenings and that would've been great.
