Check in at the airport
You can check in:
- at a WestJet kiosk 24 hours or fewer before your flight
- with a friendly agent at Guest Assistance 3 hours or fewer before your flight
Every airport we operate out of has a Guest Assistance counter. See which airports have self-serve baggage tag kiosks.
Boarding passes
You need your:
- reservation code;
- passport, if you are travelling to the U.S. or internationally; and
- hotel name, destination address, cruise or transit airline if you are travelling to the U.S. Your boarding passes will be issued once check in is complete.
You must have your electronic or paper boarding passes, baggage tags, and have dropped off your baggage before our cut off times.

Our best advice about check in
- Our cut-off times may not represent the amount of time required to drop off baggage and to go through security. We suggest that you check in 90 minutes prior to departure if you're travelling within Canada and 120 minutes for international travel.
- You should arrive at the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before flight departure. If you arrive less than 10 minutes before departure you will be denied boarding. WestJet is not responsible for missed flights, transfers, or any portion of onward travel due to late arrival at the gate.
- Baggage will be accepted up to 3 hours before departure at most locations. Checked baggage (*excluding kennels) is accepted until the check in cut-off time of your flight. Requirements for checking in kennels may vary depending on your airport. Kennels arriving at check-in within 90 minutes of departure may be denied. To ensure a successful trip, we recommend checking in your pet and kennel 2 hours before departure. Find everything you need to know about travelling with a pet.

Saving e-boarding passes
Be sure to save a version of your e-boarding pass on your phone in case you find yourself without access to a wi-fi connection.
Apple device (iOS 10 or newer): you can add multiple e-boarding pass to Apple Wallet.
Android devices: save an e-boarding pass for one guest per device.
- A print version of an e-boarding pass will not be accepted
- If you forgot to download your e-boarding pass, re-check in on your phone or at one of our airport kiosks. If you’re travelling to an airport that does not support e-boarding passes, we will happily issue you a print version
- E-boarding passes cannot be forwarded. If necessary, we can re-issue your boarding pass to a different email address or account.
- If you’re travelling with a child, lap-held infant, or if you have purchased a seat for an infant in a restraint system, you are not eligible to receive an e-boarding pass
Baggage and overnight connections
If you are travelling on an overnight flight, wholly operated by WestJet, that arrives before 2 a.m. and you're connecting to a flight that departs after 5 a.m., you are required to collect your baggage in the connection city and then check it in for your later flight.

Will I be seated next to someone?
We understand that not everyone has the same comfort levels when it comes to travel. In recognition of this, we have reassessed our policy to incorporate the following changes to give comfort to those who are concerned:
- See what seats are selected: During, or even after you've checked in, you have up to 1 hour before departure to see which seats are occupied and select or change your seat. Fare type may affect eligibility and change fees.
*Note that flight loads are dynamic and not guaranteed until ten minutes prior to departure.
- Cancel or rebook with no penalty: Should you not be comfortable flying on that flight, trips can be rebooked within a three-day time period at no cost or the fare will be refunded to voucher for the full value of the flight;
- Flexibility on board: Once on board the aircraft we are making every effort to avoid seating our guests next to each other should the aircraft flight load allow for it.
As a reminder, we have extended our vouchers so that they can be used for up to 24 months.
