This is not my first time at this hotel, overall I like it. I still don’t get the bathroom’s design but ok.... this time my family came all the way from Oregon to spend some time at the beach. We’re a party of 11. Yesterday my 7 year old niece at 3 am started to throw up. It kept going until 10 am. I called the concierge to ask for the cleaning lady very early. Once she came my mother and I went to have breakfast, there’s a very nice juice station at the restaurant, I grabbed the first glass I could reach and poured some juice, the first sip I took almost made me want to threw up. All the glasses had a horrible smell. Like if they were dried with a dirty towel or something (assuming they were cleaned) because I just saw some reviews were they saw how they “cleaned” the dishes. They gave me another glass and that one was fine. When we were done we headed up for our room and the lady was still cleaning it, was hard on her since my niece threw up all over the bathroom floor( because she couldn’t reach the bathroom at the right time) what was our surprise is that they were cleaning with what I could smell was a dirty towel and they moved the vomit all the way to the door then she grabbed it with a dustpan and THREW IT OVER THE BALCONY! That’s not ok! No wonder how everyone at the hotel is sick! My brother and sister in law started to have symptoms too. I’m from Costa Rica I totally get that a virus is normal to get but you can contain it. There were no precautions said or written over the hotel, there was no alcohol rub sanitizers around. The bathroom at the seaside grill restaurant was so dirty I had to tell the person in charge to call someone to clean it. There wasn’t even soap in the dispensers. Long story short I left with my dad 1 night earlier, I can’t afford to get sick neither does my dad. My mom stayed with my brother who’s still sick at the hotel! I hope someone takes responsibility of the lack of cleaning at this hotel and hopefully talks to me or my mother who’s still at room 3319. That by the way it’s true as I saw in another review there are glasses with leftovers over a shelf since Saturday (the day that I arrived, but I think they’ve been there longer than that) right by that hallway.

Before booking Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica, I searched the reviews like most people. I was a bit apprehensive due to the few reviews I read stating that there were raccoons all over the resort and some of the accommodations were less than desirable. I can tell you, wholeheartedly that those reviews are bogus. This resort is A1, Top Shelf. We saw one, very well maintained raccoon on our last night at the resort. Nothing to be concerned about folks. It happens...wildlife enters a resort. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful and super clean. The staff were unbelievably friendly and accommodating. I can not find one con about this place. From the food to the entertainment to the facilities, everything was spectacular. We will definitely be returning.

I visited the resort during the week of February 11 for a girls trip to celebrate a collective monumental birthday year. The six of us wanted a *once* in a lifetime girls trip. The Dream Resort did not disappoint. My review: Food: Here's the best news - you will lose weight! Close down your WW app and keep your Beginners Guide to the Keto Diet book at home. The Dreams Resort offers a special BRAT diet to 80% of the guests who are expected to contract the norovirus. The all-inclusive fare for the iron-stomach crew is what to be expected; the menu offerings are varied enough for a 4-5 day vacation. But be sure to ask for new cutlery when you sit for a meal. If it looked like the previous diner did not use the knife, it will be used at your seating Service: Poolside restaurants moved guests in and out quickly with a rather genius collaboration with the local iguana population. Our waiter told us the tarp hanging from the ceiling was the reptiles' home. Nothing makes lingering guests clear the room faster than a pair of iguanas the size of small dogs scurrying up a pole and resting themselves precariously above your table. The possibility of a large reptile literally "dropping in" on lunch is enough to scare the sh*t out of anyone, but if you're one of the lucky 80% of the guests infected with the norovirus, your colon is likely as empty as tables underneath the tarp. Guest flow: Even though we visited during the start of winter break, most days the resort looked somewhat vacant. Many of the poolside chairs were reserved by 7am, but remained empty at 10am. Plenty of open seating for meals when a lot of people chose to "dine in" for the night...or two, or three. Forget to make reservations for a zip line tour? Not a problem. Most shuttles left with nary a passenger since whole groups were felled by the norovirus. No peak travel problems here as soon as the virus checked in. Wildlife: I loved the daily howler monkey visits to our patio deck. When I was confined to the bed for the entire second day of my trip due to illness, I received periodic visits from the primate guests. At first, the visits were cute. But sickness-induced dreams (hallucinations?) created a weird role-reversal with them parading by watching me through the glass as I tried to sleep. Now if only that howler brought a ginger ale or an extra roll of toilet paper, you'd be reading a five-rating review. WiFi: Excellent service as soon as you arrive on property. I was quickly able to find search results for "How long does the norovirus stay in the body?" or "Is there a CDC outbreak listing Costa Rica?". Reading all the negative Trip Advisor reviews of the resort made for excellent reading in the commode. The Rooms: Ah, the luxury of hitting the hay in a bed made for Goldilocks. The perfect mattress mix of hard and soft with bedding that keeps you warm from the flu-induced cold sweats, yet cool enough when you have the post-puke heat spells. The maid service is quick and efficient, which isn't terribly surprising since they did not waste time with cleaning products during their brief visit. The Staff: Very accommodating for most requests. When we asked a staff member responsible for the morning shift pool cleaning, he was glad to retrieve a happy hour's worth of glassware at the bottom of the pool. If you are afraid to eat the resort food, the salesperson at the gift store is happy to point you to the $25 soda crackers. Wait staff will quickly wipe down a dirty table if asked, but it will be with a dry and dirty rag. Tips: Speak to fellow guests because they will tell you everything about the virus and the secretive staff at the resort. Americans will first ask you're from, but the Canadian guests won't waste time on the pleasantries and get to straight to point. You'll know every symptom, every guest with symptoms and what the staff is not doing about the outbreak. It was a guest from Ottawa who told me the concierge/timeshare salesmen mentioned he had the virus as he shook her hand during check-in. I cut my sales call short; he still shook my hand. If you want the resort scuttle, ask a Canuck. I'll save you the time by responding to the repeated copy and paste message from the general manager: • sanitizing and disinfecting all common areas of guest and employee guestrooms and bathrooms. [Never saw this happen once during my stay] • sanitizing and disinfecting all production areas of kitchens, restaurants and bars. [Never saw this happen once during my stay] • placement of sanitizing gels in all heavy traffic areas such as restaurants, bathrooms, buffet stations and employee areas. [The canisters containing sanitizer were dubious since the sanitizer was not displayed in the original, branded packaging. If a canister did work or was not empty, the gel's consistency was unfamiliar. Less Purell and more like the residue of a nose sneeze.] • enhanced reinforcement with staff on use of gloves while cleaning all guest rooms and guest linens. [Never saw a staff member wearing gloves during cleaning. Remember this clearly when I gave my cleaning person a tip in her ungloved hand.] • additional analysis of the drinking water, swimming pool water and ice. [Never saw on-site testing.] • doctor on-site and available 24-hours a day. [Perhaps, but I was not aware of any guest calling for the doctor.] Just, no.

Did not care for set up of room - no privacy with bathroom with glass door directly in main bedroom area. Restaurants were mediocre, Japanese was by far the best for food and service, Italian second Entertainment was not very good Beach was disappointing Walkway lighting was very poor and dangerous at night Hot and extremely windy - chairs were blown right into the swimming pool Pool bar service was poor except when Jimmie was on, he was very efficient Pool area and tables were not washed down at the end of the day There were dirty glasses left in the hallway on a shelf for the whole time we were there - disgusting Overall cleanliness of the resort was not up to our standards We were very disappointed in this resort. We were both ill while there and heard many others were ill as well. We went with another couple and had a good time with them, pools were beautiful, lounge chairs by the pool comfortable. All in all we would not return to this resort. We were so disappointed, expected much more from a Dreams resort.

Room - We stayed in block 6 - 6206, with a fantastic view and spotlessly clean room. Location – We were told that the hotel had spent 2 Million on the landscape of the complex. The planting was incredible and we really felt like we had found our own little piece of paradise. In fact when we went out on the Sloth and Pineapple plantation excursion, the beauty of Costa Rica was not a patch on the spectacular landscape of the hotel. Swimming Pools – During the day we stayed by the 2 Adult only pools. Lionel & Jimmy (staff) were always topping up our drinks and really made our holiday such fun. We made friends with American’s, Canadian’s and Brit’s and had our own little cocktail club, with Jimmy & Lionel bring us rounds of Scooby Doo shots, along with most (humm maybe all lol) of the cocktails on the menu. Mid-day we would venture down to the activity pool for aqua aerobics, organised by Jeffery & the crew. This was an amazing work-out and probably the best hotel run water aerobics I have been to. Later in the afternoon we would attend their water volley ball which was so much fun, half time consisted of shots. When it rained, Lionel came and found us in the lower pool area Jacuzzi. He brought us and the other guest our cocktails so we could continue our little party in the Jacuzzi, as we looked over the ocean & beach. When the sun moved around at 4.30pm we would move up to the top pool and have fun on the water slides. You could always find a sunbed, clean beach towels and plenty of cocktails and friendly hospitality. Beach – We loved going on the organised sunset kayaking with all the other hotel guest, which was free. Whist we was waiting in the middle of the ocean our guide would tell us the facts about the sea-life, Nicaragua & Costa Rica. The beach & sea was nice but not comparable to Aruba, Jamaica or Mexico. Early in the morning or an hour before sunset, you could see the collection of moneys in the trees on the beach. Food & Restaurants – We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch but went to a different restaurant every night. Our favourite restaurants were Seaside Grill, with delicious flame grilled steak and Himitisu table service not show cooking. Ambience – Staff – Other holiday makers – The staff were the nicest and friendliest people we have meet in the Caribbean and South America. We meet so many people and made so many new friends from all over the world. One of the most sociable, relaxing and amazing holidays. We will definitely be returning to Dreams Las Mareas. I have gained so much help and information from trip advisor so I thought I would give something back and write this review, if you found my review helpful please give me a “Like” / “Thank”
