Sandals customer, but honest review.

Steve W (Three Rivers, Michigan) on Apr 13, 2024

Concierge service was very disappointing. Do not feel it was an upgrade at all considering the service at South Coast. This was a short birthday getaway and it fell flat. We couldn't book at Butch's for a birthday dinner no matter how hard we tried. Staff talked the correct words (at times) but you could read thier eyes....they don't care & hate thier job. The room was dirty upon arrival. Hair on the floor & shower. The air-conditioning beeped constantly. They disabled it on the first day after we voiced concern & never came back to put in the remote until our last day. The rug under the bed was was absolutely filthy- please check room 214. We were considering a swim up room, but glad we didn't. The bottom of that pool area was very dirty--looked like mold on the tile/floor area.I would NOT recommend this resort to a friend due to these 2 reasons. Tokyo Joe's & the pool by Bayside have the same rotted out/sagging decking. The pool decking is roped off, but not the restaurant(?). We did leave Tokyo Joe's after our spring roll appetizer due to the lack of selection of vegetables for the stir-fry (only carrot, onion, & cabbage?) appetizers on menu unavailable, and general structure/maintenance of flooring and walls. On a lighter note-housekeeping was fantastic during our stay! Much better than South Coast. They restocked all linens/toiletries promptly & cleaned the room well. We felt taken care of by the housekeeping staff. Our fridge was restocked well (requests fulfilled w/"no problem") & we loved the large glass bottles for the H20 instead of plastic bottles. Joel & Sato at Soy were informative, helpful, fun, & charming. Suprisingly delightful sushi in JA! We came ONLY because it was my husband's 50th birthday. Despite telling every staff we met & putting it on our reservation information, nobody put in any effort to acknowledge his special day--except Leonardo at Latitudes. Thank you, Leonardo for making him a special Appleton cocktail on his special day! We love JA & frequent the Sandals brand, but we were very disappointed in Sandals Mobay. I felt terrible my husband got no recognition of his 50th birthday, despite telling multiple staff THAT is why we came. We felt the resort cleanliness, maintenance, and (heart felt) hospitality was lacking for a Sandals resort. We would not recommend or book another stay at this resort. We hope this review helps improve Sandals Mobay. Looking forward to our next stay at SRC in November. We will return to visit Soy & Latitudes at Mobay.

Amazing March Trip to MoBay

SteveRam71 (Wesley Chapel, North Carolina, USA) on Apr 12, 2024

Wanted to give a shout out to the team at Sandal’s MoBay for yet another amazing trip. We arrived for our 31st visit the second week of March to meet up with several couples we have met through the years to celebrate three of their birthdays. The weesk prior to our arrival had been extremely difficult on the island as they had several days of bad weather and extreme flooding. The team at MoBay had done an amazing job getting the entire property cleaned up and back functioning. When we arrived we were met by one of our favorite butlers Marvin, he is simply amazing. He leaves no small detail undone and continues to amaze us trip after trip along with his partner in crime Marvin. These two are in our opinion at the top of their game when it comes to providing a 5 star experience. We refer to them as the not only the butler A team but we count them as family. We had beautiful weather the entire week and amazing service from everyone but I have to call out a few special people that consistently go above and beyond to make it a truly memorable experience. Romario and Rayon at the main bar in the evenings are great. They never forget a face or a drink order and always had a drink ready for me without even having to ask. If you have heard of rainbow shots but never experienced them you have to go visit Dane in the evenings at the Piano Bar. The man is truly amazing. I can’t leave out Everton in the living room at night for entertainment. Thanks for all you do to make sure everything is just right. Loxley at the late night grill is yet another hidden gem. We always look forward to seeing him and catching up over a late night snack. Horace at Butches and Joel are the simple the best. These two men never stop working to ensure each guest is treated special and provide the best dining on property in opinions. Dwayne, Sasha and Stephaun at Butches and Soy. Have to give credit to the entire team in the Photo shop from “Dirty Kurt”, Kevin, Omar, Adrian and Marsha that keeps them all in line. We love you guys for capturing all of our special memories for us and look forward to seeing you each trip and what new ideas you have for new poses. I can’t forget about Duncan and Christopher Grant that help lead the teams at MoBay and always go above and beyond. We can’t wait to go back again.

We loved our trip to this Sandals so much, we booked 2 more trips with them!

pamelalowe1967 (Rochester, New York) on Apr 10, 2024

Check out the video of this Sandals resort in my blog on my website - WanderlustPammy.com. Recently, I was able to tick off one of the travel items on my bucket list – vacationing at a Sandals resort. I work at a school, and typically my husband and I travel to Europe during my Spring Break. We had a trip to Portugal planned for this year; however, due to problems with his hip, he didn’t think he could manage the walking and hills that come with a trip to Portugal. Thus, we decided to plan a different and more relaxing trip to an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean. I immediately suggested to my husband that we go to a Sandals resort. After much thought and discussion, looking at the different resorts on the Sandals website, and checking on the flights, we settled on the flagship Sandals resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Now, I’m not going to lie, after booking our trip, I started to wonder if we chose the right Sandals resort. Alexa and Siri must have been listening to us talk about our trip and information about the dangers of traveling to Jamaica started popping up in my Facebook feed. However, everything I read about Sandals suggested they were safe. So, we decided to move forward with our plans for the trip, and I’m glad we did. I never felt unsafe, the people of Jamaica were so lovely, and we had an amazing and relaxing trip! I love that Sandals resorts are adults only. Most resorts do their best to cater to a very wide spectrum of demographics. This means that their amenities, rooms, entertainment, and everything that goes into the resort is made to suit a variety of needs and wants. At Sandals resorts, romance, relaxation and fun are the focus, and the atmosphere, music, entertainment, rooms, and amenities are perfect for adults, and more specifically, couples. My husband and I were surprised at how quiet this resort was though. We have been to other adult-only, all-inclusive resorts and typically have experienced more of a wild, party atmosphere at them. This was our first time at a Sandals resort though, so I’m not sure if all Sandals resorts are this low-key or if it was just the time of the year or the resort we stayed at. In general, all-inclusive resorts typically don’t have the best food…or worse, the food is practically inedible. I’m not going to say that the food at the Sandals resort in Montego Bay could rival a quality restaurant outside of a resort, but it was good and some of it was exceptional. The sushi restaurant, called Soy, was actually the best sushi I have ever had. It is too bad that we ate there just two nights before the end of our stay. I could have eaten there more! All-inclusive resorts almost always have restrictions and upcharges on types of liquor, beer, and wine that are included in the all-inclusive price. At Sandals, there are certain bottles of wine and bubbly that you can purchase for an additional charge, but you can choose from a wide selection of quality liquor without any upcharges. They also don’t allow tipping, so you don’t have to worry about carrying your wallet with you to the pool bar. Sandals also keeps a selection of bottles of liquor, wine, beer, water and soda stocked in the bar/refrigerator in your room for you to enjoy at your leisure on your patio or in your room. We had booked a swim-up room and really enjoyed sitting out there with a drink in our hands. Speaking of our room, I loved the Club Level Swim-Up room we stayed at. It wasn’t a suite, but it was a good-sized room with a large shower and the patio was fantastic! There was a soaking tub on the patio and a curtain to provide you with privacy while you had a soak. If we had splurged for a Butler room, the butler would have drawn our bath each morning, but we didn’t book that type of room. I regret that we didn’t use our tub, but I will next time! The best part of it though was the fact that we could just walk out of our room and down the stairs into a gorgeous pool that they meticulous cleaned every morning and intermittently throughout the day. With room service, our private bar, and the pool, we could have stayed in our own room/pool area all day if we wanted to. Club Level and Butler rooms also provide you with private transportation to and from the airport, which was nice. When you make a booking with Sandals, they provide you with a list of excursions you can choose from for an additional charge. We only booked one excursion on our trip, the Reggae Catamaran Booze Cruise with snorkeling. The tour, staff on the boat, and the spot they chose for snorkeling were all outstanding. We had a great time overall, but there was one thing about it that I didn’t like. Other hotels/resorts were able to access this excursion as well, and they weren’t all adult-only. So, on our cruise we had a group of 17 teenagers, and they certainly changed to atmosphere on the boat. Especially when their guardians allowed them to get into the rum punch. If you are not interested in excursions that cater to all ages when you go to a Sandals, you may want to ask them if the excursion is adult-only. We also booked a couples massage while we were there. Now, I am a massage connoisseur and go for a massage frequently at home and on vacation. This massage was exceptional! They did offer products to us to buy after the massage was over, but the prices were good and the products I purchased were necessary (to treat my sunburn) and exceptional! The entertainment on the resort was good, but they didn’t give us a schedule of events when we arrived or even tell us how to find a schedule. On the second day we were there, we went into the entertainment office to see if they had one, and they did. I wish we would have gotten that when we checked in though. Finally, I have to comment on the staff at our Sandals resort. I’m not sure if the people vary by the location/country of the resort, but the staff working at our resort were very kind, helpful, friendly, and fun. They definitely have a more laid-back attitude on the island, and the service wasn’t the fastest. In fact, there were a couple of times we had to call more than once before they followed through. However, they were all happy, personable and took the time to get to know us. They were also flexible and tried their best to accommodate all of your needs. Overall, we loved our stay at Sandals Montego Bay. We loved it so much that were booked a vacation next year (2025) at the Sandals in Barbados before we left the resort. They do not bug you about it, but they do offer great discounts if you book another vacation with them before you leave the resort. We got a discount for that, for booking during a specific time period, and for booking our stay during my husband’s birthday month. The discounts were considerable and resulted in our next trip being $1600 less than the one we just took with the same Club-Level Swim-Up room. We were also able to lock in 2024 pricing in 2026 if we put down a non-refundable deposit for another trip in 2026. Obviously, we were happy customers!

AMAZING!

Kim I on Apr 10, 2024

We were in Montego Bay from March 17-27,2024. We had the best time. Staff was AMAZING. While we were there we celebrated my husband's birthday, and our butlers, Asha and Denesha, made it very special. They went above and beyond to make his day memorable. I would highly recommend them as butlers. They were outstanding! In addition, we'd like to give a few shout outs to other staff members who went above and beyond. Davion, bartender at the Pool Bar, was exceptional. Your drink never ran out and he was he was very friendly! Leroy, is a great young man. He always had a smile on his face and would sit and chat with us whenever he had a minute. He has a lot of potential and hopefully Sandals will promote him! Peta-Gay is a drink runner on the beach. She is the most pleasant, friendly person. She kept checking on us throughout the day and never let our drinks run out! Ceressa, who works at the pool bar, did runner duties and whatever was asked of her was very accommodating. Even though it really wasn't her job to check on us, she did it and was very happy to do so. Lastly, the General Manager, Christopher, was always fun to talk to, always had a smile on his face and very helpful. All you had to do was ask if you needed anything. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sandals MoBay and can't wait to go back again!

Average resort at a very high price

Traveler58034910462 on Apr 09, 2024

For the cost, I think it is overated and I'd rate this as average. Each day, it was extremely difficult finding any available beach chairs under umbrellas since all had towels on them indicating that they were reserved and as early as 8am each day. Same applied to the chairs around all of the pools. The resort does NOT remove them as indicated if not occupied after 90 minutes. Food was less than average in most places and their room furniture was aged. The staff was very accommodating and friendly!
