    This is my second year coming to puerto Vallarta and we decided to go and try this hotel this year and I was very disappointed! The food wasn’t very good everything was very over cooked, we didn’t have any hot water in our room for 5 days and each time we called they said they would send someone up but no one had came to figure out the problem, we asked to switch rooms and they just told us they couldn’t do that. I will never go back to this resort and I will not be recommending it to anyone. It’s a beautiful resort but with how the resort looks outside you would think the rooms would be great but they are not.

    We stayed 2 years ago just down the road at the Samba Vallarta, and it was less expensive and better than this resort. This place was disappointing on all counts. Food was only fair, and the weightlifting side of the gym is just old school weight plates. No modern lifting machines to be seen. The Samba gym was better, and their resort is cheaper. Reflect advertises several restaurants on site, but the Asian one was closed for part of our 4 night stay, and the Italian one proved to be only available to “members”. We had something advertised as “rib steak” at the Grill and it looked like fried golf balls (see photo). The next night we had “sweet and sour chicken” at the Asian restaurant and it did not seem either sweet or sour. Checkout is at noon, and at 10 to 12 as we tried to get with luggage from the second floor of one of the side buildings to the front desk, two elevators were full of staff with their giant laundry bins. Really the best time to jam up elevators there whoever is management?

    I have stayed at other AM Resorts and I can see that this place is trying, but its not quite there yet. I gather this resort recently changed over to be part of the AM chain and I realize that it may take time for it to reach the high standards of that resort chain. The service by the pool was impeccable - Alberta who used to work at Dreams brought his A game to this resort as well. Always with a smile and always extremely professional, just like what I would expect from an AM resort. The infinity, swim up bar pool is gorgeous, overlooking the beach and Bay of Banderas. But, it is not the adult only pool so there are lots of kids in the pool who seemed to be unsupervised as their parents indulged at the swim up bar. I have to say, the drinks were better at the bar by the adults only pool, but the service at the swim up pool was better. The beach is gorgeous - stretches for miles and you can easily walk the beach to Bucerias, the small town nearby. Bucerias is well worth a visit and if you go you have to go to Yo Yo Mo's. The pizza is amazing and they have the coldest beer ever! They also own the Drunken Duck across the street which has great live music. Also for tequila, the Tequila Factory (the one closest to the square on the same street as the OXXO) really good prices and excellent knowledgeable staff. I also indulged in a massage from Lily at Healing Hands Massage about 100 meters down the beach. Its in a tent on the beach - excellent deep tissue massage and listening to the waves while being massaged was pretty magical. While it seems not very private, as one side of the tent is open to beach, they are so professional that is was not a concern at all. But back to the resort itself. The meals at the buffet were excellent! The meals at the other places - not so great. We were there just before high season so I am not sure if it changes but while we were there, each night at the restaurant was a different menu (that's how they claim they have so many places). They also have an Asian restaurant that I didn't try as I heard from others it was nothing special. The food when it was The Grill was okay, Risotto which was Italian was better and when it was Mortero, which was Mexican it was horrible. I also ate at the Club only restaurant, the Haciena El Mortero. I couldn't finish my meal and ended up leaving and going to the buffet where the food was better. The food at the snack bar was pretty good but nothing special. I had upgraded to the Altitude Club, definitely not worth the price. The room for club members is on the main floor, even though most of the club rooms are on floors, 8, 9 and 10 - not very convenient. The food there was nothing like the food in the preferred club at other AM resorts and the alcohol was hit and miss as to what was provided - good latte machine though, but you could just walk across the hall and get an excellent latte at Cocos. Because of a mess up with my room when I arrived, they upgraded me for free to a swim up room. There are two sides of swim up rooms. Some have a small patio and then the pool, but mine unfortunately was different. Mine had water, about 5 inches deep right up to the door to the suite. It had two lounge chairs, so you couldn't sit outside with out getting completely wet. I brought up a normal chair from the pool patio so I could sit outside and just have my feet in the water. I had never had a swim up room before and it was kind of cool, but I missed being able to sit on my deck in the morning with a coffee and enjoy the view. This was not the resort's fault, just not my cup of tea - but I would suggest that if they lowered the water level on the one side, then people could sit out without being in the water. Overall this place was okay - but I can tell they are making an effort to become better. The young woman who assisted me at the front desk (and I am terribly sorry that I don't remember her name) was excellent and Alberto and Dante the pool waiters were also fabulous. They need to up their food game and seriously consider changing the swim up bar pool to an adults only pool. Would I go back - it would depend on the price. I have stayed at better resorts for the same price. But if there was a great deal I would go back. Right now I think they are charging 4 star prices for a 3 star resort. And I understand that Reflect should not be compared to Dreams or Secrets, but I do expect a certain level of fabulous from AM Resorts and this is just not there yet.

    The layout of resort is pretty nice. The price we paid was average, so I would suggest do some homework before booking here. If you have children and aren't fussy about food and drinks, well this place may be ok for you. Wasn't very clean. Walkways, stairs, public areas need improvement. Nice walking on the beach. The drinks (cocktails) we not very good. The wine was terrible. The only meals we enjoyed were at lunch time at The Grill. We ate there everyday around 1pm, Very good service and attention to detail. However evening meals and service were terrible. We didn't enjoy any other meals. They claim to have Top Shelf Spirits, NOT. Most bartenders could not even make a martini. We ended up buying a few bottles of Grey Goose vodka and making our own drinks. We did take a taxi into Puerta Vallarta and enjoyed walking around and had a wonderful dinner at Tappa's. The Ocean was nice but the water very cloudy. I like to see the bottom of the ocean. There are many sting rays there. My husband got stung on his foot and took a couple months to heal. It was bad. Thank god we had a friend that knew exactly what to do. This kinda put a damper into things as he couldn't walk very far and not on the beach/sand. I didn't go back in the water after that.

    Definitely not a 5 star hotel as we were told. Two stars **

    (1) The hotel was informed two days in advance of our visit and yet we had to wait almost three hours to get into our room. (2) We we assured we would get a king bed, we waited two days for the staff to push the two beds together to make a king. (3) There is "black mold" growing on the wall. Pleas see picture. (4) No hot water in the shower. Surprise surprise. Had to take a cold shower in the morning. We had hot water restored by 7pm the next day. (5) Telephone in the room did not work. Still waiting for repairs. (6) Wash towles were not provided. Only towles. We asked the front desk, showed them what a wash cloth looked like via picture and the finally found some in the afternoon on the second day. Had to wash up the first day of our arrival and the next morning using a towel only. (7) Had to request sheets for our bed? Interesting, room service, put the beds together on the second day but failed to put sheets on the bed. We asked for sheets and they were provided a few hours later. (8) Food in the restaurants, absolutely Excellent! Food by the pool Excellent! (9) Hotel prints a daily events paper which indicates the dress code as "Casual Elegence " Long pants required for men to enter the restaurants.. So I put on long pants for dinner, only to discover, all of the men in the restaurants were allowed to enter wearing dress short pants. I addressed the miscommunication with the front desk where I was again told men had to wear long pants. I let them know the restaurant staff does allow men to wear dress short pants and they should update their daily notice from Long pants required for me to " dress short pants are allowed". No changes have been made yet. I'm sure other men are not happy and learn quickly that they can in fact wear shorts and change accordingly. More updates to follow over the next five days that we are here.... please stay tuned...
