Beautiful, big resort - family level experience.

We are a family of 5, with a 17, 10, and 3 year old. We travel annually sometimes a couple times (just went to another Punta Cana resort at xmas) and shift between level type trips to non-level. We are not picky, love to relax and play, we are not out late at nights, rarely even do shows. On this vacation we booked level through expedia in the two bedroom suite. We ended up on second floor in building 51. Ricardo was our concierge. The kids voted it a 7/10, my husband and I an 8/10. There is an app which would be great to make requests and use as a service - but it doesn’t work. In fact I was asked what I wanted as far as pillows, extras - and got none. This was very disappointing as we had requested feather pillows (my husband hated the big puffy pillows), a ground floor (for the little ones wagon) and a particular concierge (ours was fine though). The food: We ate at the Riveria the most. It is the level restaurant and was conveniently close to our building. It is both buffet and order ala carte at night. We tried the salmon and beef off menu, my husband ordered it then 3x so that definitely means he loved it. One night they even had lobster in the restaurant buffet at the grill. The breakfasts were great, coffee ok. Staff wonderful and charming with the kids. Like other resorts there are a couple birds and cats that wander on the outskirts of the restaurant. The kids love this actually. There was a broken fountain on entry. The bar was great, the bartender super friendly. We also tried the Merkado one night for buffet. It is a non-level main buffet in the lobby. We left after 3 minutes. The line up was about 50 people long for one station (no exaggeration) and it was loud and staff were running off their feet unable to keep up. We tried the Tartufo buffet by the beach 3x. It was ok, smaller than Merkado, but definitely less loud and busy. But still did not compare to the smaller, better Riviera. When we arrived as asked for ala cartes on, Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday. We received it Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Not a huge slip up but big enough that we showed up at the restaurant on the wrong night due to my not looking as close at the dates he sent just assuming it was what I had requested. We ate at Cape Nao. The reviews for this restaurant are awful, but we found it quite good. The drinks were great, the food the kids all loved and so did we. It is a level seafood restaurant. One issue though - on the map it is located elsewhere. In reality it is behind Tartufo. We had another ala carte the next night at Alma. It had really positive reviews, but it was terrible. It was hot at first, with no AC on, they squished us into a too small table, and it was so loud we could barely hear each other. The food was alright, we all had beef, but had to stop at the buffet for snacks for the kids afterwards. The drinks ended up getting flies in them (not the fault of the place) and I ordered the same drink I had the night before but it was completely different there. The next night we were booked for dinner and a show instead of a restaurant - we didn’t even end up going as the kids were exhausted. So that’s all I can vote on here other than to say the snack bar in splash Island and at the level pool was great and the kids (and my husband) loved the ice cream machine. I think my son had a burger or two daily. We also had room service for the kids a couple times and there was no issue, it took about 30 minutes as expected, and was mostly positive other than they forgot a burger once. The Beach: It is a beautiful beach. White sand, low waves, and nice beds. They do have bali beds for an extra fee and a play ground in the water for extra. We didn’t do those. We were always able to get chairs, and staff asked if we wanted drinks though we forgot tips so they didn’t come around much. We went to the beach for a few days. My kids loved the water, though it does have a some (not a lot) of seaweed (but it IS the ocean). There are a lot of boats around the outskirts which means there are no kayaks or water sports available. The biggest thing about the beach that annoyed me was the map. Where it says the level spot is - it isn’t. This confused me and with my ADHD brain I definitely did not like the misalignment. The level is in front of Cape Nao. The Pools: We of course went to pools daily. We did the main pool a few times. Its fine, very big and very busy and loud. It is also very deep. There are ledges in various area for the kids but otherwise its pretty deep. The bar was good, and they did activities. We went to the level pool the most. It was not quite as busy and although also deep it had little beds and areas that was touchable. The bar was excellent, staff walked around on occasion to offer drinks. They had zumba at 12. One day the pool was not turned on, meaning it was not circulating at all, this was concerning so we only swam a few hours. They also had a little wading pool which was great for the kids. There are quite a few beds and loungers however they are mostly all reserved with towels by 8 am. A lot of the bali beds throughout the resort, on the beach and around the pools are very worn, torn up and needing repair. We swam at the spa one day (kids can go 12-3) and went to the waterpark one day - it was fun, even I went down the slides. The spa is private with bali beds and the waterpark loud and busy with very little shade. The Rooms: Our room was beautiful. It definitely is older, but it was kept clean and was big, roomie and beautiful. I wake super early and I loved that I had an area with a kitchen to make coffee and do a morning routine where the kids were in another section and my husband in another. We loved the huge jetted tubs, the shower pressure was good, and we always had plenty of towels replaced. They do not replace face cloths, so hide it or bring your own. I will say that I had to complain one day as they did not replace our water in the fridge and I had to ask repeatedly for juice and snacks. The resort is huge and they have a train on the level side and the other that goes back and forth to beach. My husband walked it and said it’s totally doable - but not with a 2 year old. We have a wagon but didn’t end up lugging it up and down the stairs. There was some sand flies that attacked my feet (which never happens) and my daughters got a few bug bites in the evening - but nothing over the top. Wear bug spray if your concerned. There are buggies that stop for you and you can order one through your concierge too. We enjoyed morning walks to get some coffee at the level lobby (with baileys) and feeding the turtles in the pond in between our room and there. There are a couple peacocks but and ducks at another pond but otherwise the biggest complaint from my kids was the lack of animals - our last resort had flamingos and iguanas. My son went to the gym daily but I think overall didn’t find he could meet many people or there was a lot set up for him to interact with other late teens. Kids club was amazing and my youngest was asking to go back. The biggest complaint I have is that the smell of ammonia throughout the resort. In the stairwells it was overpowering and even sometimes in our room I could smell it by the balcony doors. It smells like cat urine but I’m sure it was ammonia cleaner. Overall a good resort, clean, friendly staff for the most part and no major complaints. They need to do some repairs throughout but it must be very hard to keep up. I do not think we would have had a good experience without level.
We had a great experience and would love to come back for another vacation!

Alem did an amazing job at helping us plan out our week. He booked our dinner reservation and golf excursions when we arrived. He was always available to help when we texted him and always confirmed our needs. Would absolutely recommend him when you visit! The resort was well kept and very relaxing - the food was very nice, especially breakfast.
