    Worst Hotel Ever

a summary of our experience at the Hotel Brisas del Caribe Cuba which we booked with you for an All-Inclusive Christmas and New Year Holiday. On arrival we were allocated a near derelict room that had damaged floor and bathroom tiles, scruffy furniture and damp smelly sheets and towels. The room overlooked a number of collapsing abandoned buildings at the most remote part of the site. We rejected this room and where reallocated a better room with a pool view. However it should be noted the whole hotel complex is very tired and worn out. For the first three days of our FULLBOARD holiday meals where served in a side room to the dining room and meals consisted of choices such as chicken and cold potatoes. Later this room turned out to be the burger bar for the through night service. After this lowkey start the hotel filled with mostly Cuban guests, I believe me and my partner where the only two UK Nationals onsite. This meant that throughout the holiday, announcements and information was solely delivered in Spanish and we were unaware of upcoming events and when meal arrangements altered. After this influx of guests the main restaurant area was now opened in full however it continually proved to be unable to serve the number of people at each sitting, meaning you always had to queue for each aspect of your meal – 15 minutes for meat, 15 minutes for rice/potatoes, 15 minutes for vegetables, etc, etc….. And when on a number of times the service changed to an outside barbeque such timings doubled as the staff where unable to control single guests removing the entire volume of food placed on the servery, leaving others to wait for this to be replenished – me and my partner both had upset stomachs after eating barbeque food. At meal times further queues regularly built up as there was not enough tables, plates and cutlery to manage the queues. The worst organisation of a meal was held back until New Years Eve, which was by ticket invite only (this information was not communicated to us – we stumbled across the requirement), the ticket gave you time slot for your meal sitting. However when we attempted to attend for this a queue of several hundred non-social distancing guests with horns and sirens went on for 30 meters outside the restaurant. Good idea to give several hundred kids horns to blow at 8pm on New Years Eve Subsequently we left site to eat for what was the 4th time in the nearby town – I have never needed to eat offsite on an all-inclusive holiday before. Limitations where not restricted to the food, the drinks service was inadequate, basics such as beer and mixers where often unavailable. The hotel refused to exchange money, telling us to get a taxi to the bank ($15 ew), we needed money to eat offsite. Toilets in public areas where un-serviced, dirty with no paper or soap. The hotel bar closed at 10:30, meaning after this hundreds of guests queued for drink and food at a single serving hatch. After 12 days of coping with such bedlam we eventually had to pack bags and book into another hotel and escape this dreadful place. Before we finally departed I met with the hotel manger and went through these issues, he thanked me for this information so they could improve in future and made an offer of recompense of a free meal (we are all-inclusive?) and a carton of juice, this is paltry considering on an all-inclusive holiday we had to pay for umpteen taxis, many meals offsite and two nights in another hotel.

Horrible hotel with poorly made drinks. The treatment of the staff was very bad, with poor housing conditions. The coffee served with a spoiled machine. Huge queues for dinner and lunch, not enough staff. Very bad experience.

We were back at Brisas del Caribe from March 10th - 17th this year for our fifth time. We had another awesome stay and were treated as VIPs. Thanks to Roy, Cathy and Boris in the VIP area of the buffet and of course to Jorge for the wonderful omelets everyday! The food has improved over the last time we were there. There are so many staff that we see year after year, and it is amazing how they remember us. To everyone at reception, bar staff, staff at the Snack Bar and at the buffet, thank you for another great vacation. It was always refreshing to return to our room from a day in the sun to a very clean room with fresh water and towel art. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job! It was great that the Piano Bar was open a couple of nights during our stay! The piano players do an excellent job and are willing to play whatever you want. If you are going to Brisas del Caribe, remember to show appreciation to the staff. Every little bit helps them out! Given the uncertain times right now, we are hoping to return next year. Miss you all, and hope to see you soon!!

We returned to Brisas again in March 2020 after a year. This was our 11th or 12th time, we can't even remember for every time we go there, it seems that we arrive at home. We had a very special welcome from Birmania, the Sales Manager of the resort. We were welcomed as VIP guests with a mini-suite on the fourth floor, renovated, air-conditioned, with bottles of water, a bottle of rum and two beach towels included in the room upon our arrival. Martha, the room maid was prompt to serve us as best as she could. She is so skilled with all the figurines she makes with the towels and lay them on the bed or on the bathtub. Thank you, Martha! All the employees were super friendly, very welcoming, asking us about the situation of Covid 19 in Toronto. So different in the resort: we found a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere there. It was different in the sense that we did not feel any frustration and fear that we experienced in Toronto in the first two weeks of March in Toronto from the coronavirus. We had a great afternoon right on the first day at the beautiful, clean beach where we met our old friend Machin working hard on his job to arrange all the umbrellas with two/three long chairs aligned and ready for the guests. There were plenty of free umbrellas and chairs, and the water sports were available most of the days when there was no wind. Breakfast is the best meal I like when at Brisas, no rush to go to work, or clean the car from snow. Instead, we found every morning laid tables with all cutlery and glasses, and all the sections well filled with healthy, fresh and organic food. Plenty of boiled or pouched eggs, sorts of cheeses, salami, sausages and vegetables. Two waffle machines and two waiters who made them for you ready to eat with honey, jam or whatever we liked. Or when we wanted to wait in line of a few guests, we had a delicious omelette made on the spot by the funny Jorge. Plenty of fruits and squeezed juices, cereal, cookies and so many other sections. Coffee was served at the table and all the waiters were very polite, friendly and fast service. Lunch and dinner was sufficient, a bit repetitive with vegetables, poultry, pork and mahi-mahi fish. However, this is not to complain when compared to the fact that in Toronto my family had to wait in line at the supermarkets in the middle of the cold to buy vegetables, fruits and groceries-disinfect all of them, then cook. Just trying to be realistic and enjoying the fresh, delicious and ready made dishes at the buffet. Cindy, the big manager was circulating all the time among tables to make sure that service was good and instant. We learned from her that they had created a VIP section for returned guests to eat if/when we liked. This was a special treat this time with a very special elegant service from special waiters: Boris, Miguel and a few others who also served at the drinks and coffee bars! When we felt to change what we were eating at the buffet, we reserved ala carte restaurants: the International and the seafood. Cenin, who has been working at the Public Relations for so many years, a very good and old friend of ours, helped us to book these special restaurants. Cenin made sure to ask us every time we encountered her in the lobby if there was anything else or extra they could do to serve us best! Thank you, Cenin! We also met Michael, Alianne, the young and beautiful employee from Public Relations who also made sure to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable daily. We can't wait until this pandemic of coronavirus ends all over the world, normal life or new way of living starts, so that we can enjoy life and vacations in the blessed land of Cuba to re-meet our Cuban friends and, of course, enjoy the beautiful Cuban beaches! Brisas is a must go resort where you go with an open mind and, make sure to meet and talk to the local people to enjoy their hospitality and friendship.
