Great hotel but it's not disneyworld.

I have stayed at Disneyworld on site three times: The carribean beach, Art of Animation, and Animal kingdom-kidani village. My experience at all these three hotels were better than it was at the Disneyland hotel. It was not a bad hotel (same price as the disneyworld hotels), but it misses the "disney magic" that the Disneyworld hotels provide. I traveled with a family of 7 (6-16 years old). The pool was adequate and they had a spash zone, however it was a bit cold, so we were not able to take full advantage. Also, it is great that we can walk through downtown disney on the way to the park.
Convenience and Comfort

This was just the right choice for taking two kids (6 and 8) to Disneyland for the first time. The hotel is close enough (a leisurely 10-minute walk through Downtown Disney) from the park entrances to make it easy to come and go throughout the day, and the hotel has fun features like a monorail waterslide at the pool. Rooms were clean and fairly modern, with Disney touches that delighted the kids. And from our room, we could see the fireworks, which was great because at the end of the day, we were too tired to stay in the park to see them.
Disneyland resort hotel

Hotel was very nice and very expensive but the proximity to downtown Disney and the parks were worth it, I thought the hotel was awesome until you go see the other two Disney hotels, the Floridian and can’t recall the other one but they are gorgeous and have a much more vacation type vibe than the main hotel, however they are more expensive as but you can’t go wrong if you have the money to spare and the extra magic hours for resort guests gave us a huge head start on those days, Rode some premium rides two or three times before the lines became crazy long. If not driving recommend hiring a shuttle service that will let you make a grocery store stop. You can save a ton of money that way.

We stayed in the Frontier Tower during this trip and we enjoyed every minute of it. The Room cost is EXPENSIVE but it is worth it. You are paying the extra money to ensure you do not leave the Disney magic during your entire stay. The room is honestly very average but has a ton of Disney character hidden throughout. The hotel is noisy, but what can you expect with all the children there to see Mickey Mouse. There are tons of fun things to do within steps of your hotel room. Including Trader Sam's Tiki Bar, see my other review on that one.
