Great location. Not so great bugs and loud birds.

Nice spacious room. But there are a lot of bugs in it. There are birds that love to talk at 6am-7am and again at 5pm-6pm. It was a pleasant surprise at first. But it got old real quick. We could hear them even with the sliding doors shut. These rooms need to be sound proofed.

We did not get what we were promised as far as our reservation and the front desk staff was not helpful in resolving issues. He was obstinate and confusing and rude. If we had known the rooms we were going to get (which was different from what was promised) we would have gone with a different hotel.

Our Maui trip was amazing, partly due to this Aston hotel. There are two pools, one with a waterfall! There is no beach directly in front of the hotel, it's all rocks, but just next door you can use the Sandy Beach. We snorkled there and saw lots of fish!

Good and bad, good views but an unwelcoming place

There are good things and bad things about this place, as with everything. It's not a very welcoming resort. In fact, they didn't welcome us. And no welcome leis, papaya, or anything... The front desk staff was, in fact, cold towards us. Maybe they don't like tourists, so maybe they should be in a different industry? The view from our oceanview balcony was awesome - we could see whales. And our unit was the farthest back from the ocean, so great views all around if you are on a higher floor. The luau -- it's ok. It is free. There isn't any food or drinks. If you have kids, definitely go. Otherwise, I don't recommend it. The 2 bedroom 2 bath unit - well, the master bedroom is awesome, but the second bedroom is small, dark, at the back of the unit, and without any windows. So win the coin flip for the master! The full kitchen is missing a lot of items - there is no salt, pepper, hot sauce, decaf coffee, or coffee filters. Not a well-appointed kitchen. The pools - 2 of them. The one closest to the ocean is boring. The one farther away is much more interesting with a bridge, stone seats in the pool, and even an area you can put your lawn chair in the water. The sauna - they have a dry sauna for use. It's free. It's in between the Ladies room and the gym, so you can get there either way (for the ladies; I assume it's the same for the guys). This is nice, however, the sauna area needs upgrading. It's pretty nasty actually - the showers (2 of them) are pretty gross, and the wall is actually puffing out. That, of course, means there is water in the wall behind the paint. And that, almost always, means mold. How long has that been there? Why have they not fixed it? Would I go back here? No, there are plenty other of better options to explore. This is my birthday trip. I picked Maui because I have never been here. My friend's boyfriend also has a birthday. So 2 of the 4 of us have birthdays, and we are here for 7 nights. We made this very clear, hoping for an upgrade. Especially in light of all the current travel cancellations. We did not get an upgrade, which was disappointing. Maybe a bottle of champagne to celebrate our birthdays would be nice. I do have to give a shout out to the bellboys, though. They were friendly, quick, patient, and everything you want in a bellboy.
