As far as all-inclusives go, it wasn't super fancy, but I actually really enjoyed this aspect! There wasn't non-stop attentive service like other resorts I've been to, but that really didn't bother me. I actually preferred that sometimes, because other places feel pushy with alcohol, and I end up drinking more than I maybe should have! There was only one bar open at a time (not far from each other), one which was open 10am - 6pm, and the other 6pm - 12am. The reception lounge area was very cozy, it was never horrifically busy so it was easy enough to get served. With Occidental Tamarindo, I was able to relax, enjoy drinks and food, and never felt bothered. The staff were SUPER kind and always lovely. The food was delicious - Kyoto (Asian restaurant) was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The snack bar was better than any other I've experienced. Their onion rings were SO good. My partner and I went with a couple friends and had a wonderful time. Excursions were somewhat far away, but it was worth it, because Tamarindo was walking distance from the resort and meant we could explore with ease. I really recommend booking with the locals who set up right on the beach - great deals, friendly, and they take care of everything! We had even opted out of one part of the excursion, since we were so tired from the other two, and they followed up next day to ensure all was okay. Surfing in Tamarindo was a BLAST and we had excellent instructors. The rooms were clean and cozy. The bed didn't ever feel damp, which I find can happen sometimes, and the temperature was very easy to control. I would 100% visit again!

Our week long stay was amazing. Our ocean view room allowed us to not only see the ocean waves crashing in the mornings, but the nearby trees were visited by iguanas, monkeys, and a variety of birds. There’s nothing quite like seeing a five foot long Iguana climb a tree outside your room. We enjoyed the live music offered most days poolside and later in the lobby bar. We also attended several evening shows in the amphitheater that were fun. The property shows some signs of wear, but overall, we would recommend staying at this property.

one star, very unclean, poor service food undesirable, not in the hospitality business, no staff, and most they had severe attitude I like to share word of mouth experience with everything, stay far away, after 1 day we both felt why did we choose to extend lots of other resorts, but experience wont ever return to costa rica

Again I came to the Occidental Tamarindo. This is my second visit. I love how small the resort is. Our requests were met, and the front desk staff this time were super friendly! One complaint is the bracelets, I had to get mine put back on about 3 times, and my daughter once. She lost it, and sadly we had to replace it. That really sucks as it’s expensive for anyone coming from Canada. I was hoping they wouldn’t charge us since we leave in the morning, but they did. Beach is stunning. Pool is fun. Food isn’t the greatest and most of the waitstaff seem unhappy. You can leave and go to town if you want better food. My daughter got food poisoning one day and was super sick. Town is a quick Uber ride or 30 minute walk. The bar staff are always amazing! Entertainment staff are fun. Drinks are always strong. The rooms are pretty clean, just watch out for ants. The maids do a great job at cleaning the rooms. I love coming here, I recommend people to come here all the time! If you love great small all inclusive, you’ll love this place. I look forward to being a returning customer! See you next year Occidental Tamarindo!

I have loved, loved, loved this hotel! It is much smaller than your typical all inclusives in Mexico or Dominican Republic, so it is easy to get around, and it has a more intimate feel. Beach is long, clean, beautiful. You can walk it for miles. I loved that most rooms face jungle, what allows for extra privacy. Everything in our room worked well, and AC was great. Entertainment team was fun and friendly. We all thought food was very good. I loved that there is a snack bar, with fresh fruits, for in between meal times snacks. Grounds are beautiful, with lots of wildlife. We saw monkeys daily. I stayed at this hotel for the last 2 nights of our Costa Rican vacation, figuring that by then we will be exhausted from hiking and exploring, and will need a few days of down time. I was right on the money—it was a perfect way to end our trip. I actually could have spend a few more nights at Occidental Tamarindo easily, lol! Would gladly come back to this property.
