Beautiful property but the up charge gets old. Butler service a joke.

We just spent a week at the resort and while the resort is beautiful, and the beaches and pools are amazing there are some major issues with how they up charge you on so many things. We had a group of 24 people there for my son and new daughters-in-law wedding and have to say most everyone from the group found issues with many things. First let’s discuss this Royal Service thing with the "Butler" that you get with the upgrade and for adults only. These people or should I say ours Junior was nothing more than a bad concierge. You must use your phone to call and communicate with them which in other resorts they give you a phone to do that with while on property to avoid international call charges and such. To start he wasn't even there the day we checked in which for me was a big no no. Second it wasn't till late on the second day that we finally met him and even then, he was anything but delightful when we did meet. I had already had a couple issues with the whole Royal Service thing shortly after arriving with this expensive room you can’t even get a bottle of liquor in your room without paying an additional fee, same for beer if you want anything but Coors Light and Presidente. You can pay $4 a beer for Corona, $40 to $60 for a bottle of booze or go to the Royal Service lounge and have drinks there, not in your room when needing a break. So, you’re paying this large sum of money for a room that was no different then the one I had gotten my older kids to stay in down a bit from ours. We explained all this to Junior and he said that was the policy. Now he did get us a couple of Coronas and a bottle of wine to our room after we asked, but that was it. We never had snacks delivered, wine and cheese, champagne or nothing really special done for us the entire week. We only saw Junior about 4 times out of the whole week. We did ask him to make us reservations at a couple of the restaurants and we did get n, but then finding out all I had to do anyway was walk into these places and they would have seated us like we saw so many without reservations get seated. Then the icing on the cake was when we spoke to him the last day, we told him what time we had to be up to catch out flight and with this he said that was too early for him, he was lazy and with that my wife and I laughed in agreement. So bottom line our butler was horrible but even other we spoke to didn’t get to much from theirs either, but some did do extra without being asked. Now to the room. We had Ocean View room that we saw more of a palm tree from our porch then most anything, cut the tree down, you’re paying to see the ocean. Now also let’s not confuse a hot tub with a jetted bathtub, but that is how they described it when we checked in that we had this special room with a hot tub, big difference. While the room as OK it really wasn’t anything special other than allowing us access to the Royal Service area that are supposedly for adults only. That is till the spring breakers got there and took over these areas with childish high school and college behavior without adult supervision. There is a fine line that separates the regular area to the adult only area, and I guess adult means if they are older than 16. Lesson learned never go to a resort that allows kids to get same access as adults and never over pay for a room that gave us nothing special in the end. Do yourself a favor, if you want real all adult and all inclusive with butler service go to Sandals and experience what real service and exceptional Butlers are all about. Now the wedding. While this was not a bad thing, we did have a small issue the day of the wedding where we moved the reception from a lawn garden area to under cover du to threat of rain in the afternoon. The location was fine but there was an issue with the sun and lack of a breeze in the area. When we asked if they could provide us a couple of fans, we were told it was $110, per fan! This was insane to us considering that between the rooms for 24 guest, wedding reception charges and everything probably totaling around $50K the resort couldn’t find it in their means to provide the fans needed. And when I called to speak to the resort manager about this, I was quickly sent to the wedding department manager and yet again was no help to make this happen only telling me that in this very large resort they didn’t have one fan but would have to get it from a company off the resort property. Best part of the place was Juan and Jose at the Royal Service bar, those two were amazing and fun. Bottom line, I nor any of the 24 that went on this trip will ever go to this resort again after comparing notes and such. If you want a beautiful resort with decent food, not excellent food and you like to sound of young spring breakers yelling and doing their best to act like adults but failing miserably then this is the place for you. We on the other hand will always choose a resort going forward that is truly an all adult property and that would be Sandals, Couples or Secrets resorts to name a few as they get the whole quality and value for the price being paid.

After traveling here with my wife several years ago, we decided to take our kids down for Spring Break this year. We were very pleased with the resort again and the kids are already asking when we can go back. Know before you visit here that it is not a 5 Star resort with world-class cuisine and staff waiting on you at every turn. However, it is a great facility with friendly staff. Most meals will be eaten at the buffet-style restaurants because getting reservations at the other restaurants is nearly impossible unless booked several weeks in advance. That said, the food is still very good with a large selection to choose from and we never once waited for a table. Never left a meal feeling unsatisfied. The grounds are immaculate and the main pool is probably my favorite of any I've ever seen. Extra points for the swim-up bar!!! So if you are looking for something a little less formal but still far better than average amenities then definitely book some vacation time here.

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for spring break. The weather was fantastic. The service was outstanding. The staff at the pool specifically Santo Polanco, Johan Ventura and Argenis De Los Santos. They took care of us every day. Will be back for sure.

Resort is great, but so far Santo Polanco has been amazing. Santo works out at the pool and has totally taken care of my family. Helped us navigate the dinner reservations and provided excellent service.
