We arrived at Catalonia Royal Tulum around noon. Beautiful property, the structure were constructed of real wood columns, with a thatched roofed. The check in process was quick and smoothly. The clerk handed us a refreshing cocktail and a cold towel for refreshing. We were told that our room is ready, he gave us two room card and a room number ,he told us to scan QR General informations that we’re placed near by for all the informations about the resort and activities. We’re strolling to our room on these wavy stones pavement (walkway) which covered by tropical forest, different kind of plants, trees and occasionally we saw small lizards, iguanas, butterflies, and Coti(s). Each building have their own name: Sol1001-1216,Palma2001-2216, Brisa3001-3216,Luna 4001-4216,Aqua 5001-5216 and Arena 6001- 6216 All these buildings were away from the walkway. Aqua is where our room located. There’s no elevator on our building, climbing those stair is not that bad, it just 5 steps on each section. We booked the Privileged Deluxe Room, which very spacious for us. There is electronic safe, mini fridge, iron and iron board, flat-screen TV, slippers, and umbrella and hair dryer. Catalonia resort and spa is unique, staying at Catalonia is like staying at the rainforest , surround by luscious mangroves. Landscape well kept. Beautiful beach, fine sands and swimmable waves. Each morning there are the turtle tracks that come out from the sea and laying eggs along the beach. You could walk the beach from one end to the other around a mile and half one way. We saw babies turtles that trying to go back into the sea, it’s a one in life time experience. At Catalonia the staff are friendly, they did their best to make every guest safe and enjoy their stay with COVID-19 pandemic ordeals. All the staff had mask and facial shield on them all the time. From the front office to the beach Catalonia employed the right people. These are the staff that we had the Pleasure to know them during our stay. Daniel and Miguel - guest relation by the pool and next to the restaurant. Quetzabel- the hostess, and the servers Parlos,Abelado,Alexandra, Araceli, and Adolfo and many more that you will meet them when you stay at Catalonia . We celebrating our wedding Anniversary and they decorated our door with banner and champagne in the room- thanks Daniel ! With COVID-19 Catalonia had only two restaurants open, and you have to book your reservation with Daniel or Miguel for the night you wants to have dinner. La Palapa and Be Loved are the restaurants that served breakfast and lunch and dinner. The menu are the same through out the week . You can get snack at Be Loved through out the day. The menu went electronic, you just scan the QR code’s and there you have it. The WiFi is strong, you almost can get it when you’re far away from the beach. Tequila is the only bar that open, Maloo, and Bar Aqua are not open due to COVID-19. If you decided to stay at Catalonia , you MUST bring mosquitos spray with you. You can buy at the resort for $ 12.00. If you want souvenir you can get a taxi from the hotel to Playa del Carmen for $25.00 per person one way. If nice place, tranquility, beautiful place, and great service, plenty of adult beverages, and not really picky about food- Catalonia Royal Tulum is the place for you ! We loved our stay at Catalonia, would we recommend Catalonia to friends or family ? Absolutely ! Would we ever want to return to the resort ? For sure definitely !

The beach and pool were beautiful, and most staff were very nice, but only having two outdoor restaurants open during hurricane season when bugs were everywhere led to us eating mostly room service (as we got eaten alive..even with bug repellent) , which was limited, non consistent and rarely correct. Also strange there was no hot sauce or salsa in a Mexican resort. Food in the restaurants was seasoned well, but wasn't great quality and even though the website said no reservations were needed they were..and if you didn't make a reservation by five you weren't getting in, even though the resort was at low capacity. Drinks were also disappointing. There wasn't even all basic cocktails available due to basic liquors not being available. For example even a basic martini was not an option as no bars had vermouth. We were told it was because of the pandemic, but we stayed at 3 different resorts and this was the only one that had these issues. Some bartenders didn't know basic drinks, so this isn't a place for a good cocktail. I did love the margaritas with the chili salt, but you had to ask for extra extra tequila to even taste it. We are tequila drinkers and even shots seemed a bit watered down. Our room phone didn't work for our last 4 days and was never fixed, so we had to walk to the hallway phone for anything we needed. The walk through to the jungle to the pool, beach and only open restaurants was lovely and we loved the coatis and iguanas, but it gets old and I would have loved a few options for rooms closer to the beach. I will say the gentleman who cleaned our room was wonderful and we had a clean room and made bed ever evening no matter what our scheduled day was. I also don't think the upgrades are worth it. Our room and service was no different than those was had basic rooms and the good liquors were only available to people who purchased time share club memberships. Thankfully those weren't pushed on us. There are very few activities in the evenings so it would have been nice to have the pool open past 8pm, but like clockwork we got booted at 8pm every night. Pricing was also very good, but unfortunately due to these issues we wouldn't return.

1 star rating Group of 4 people, 2 couples, my friend and her husband and my husband and I. We stayed at the Catalonia Royal Tulum hotel, from 08/09/2020 to 18/09/2020. My husband and I roomed in 6006 and my friend and husband roomed in 6009. I think the hotel was nice it also has a nice beach. The exception of the service offered by one of the restaurants. The hotel only had 2 open restaurants the BLOVED which had excellent service, but the Talapa had poor service. Some of the employees lack customer service or they are in the wrong job. The day we arrived the front desk reception mentioned dinner reservations are required. A reservation was made for that day and the next day outside the Talapa Restaurant. Daniel, a very friendly young man had helped us book all of our dinner reservations for the rest of our stay. We had booked all our reservations for 8:00pm, so we didn't miss any night time showings. On one of the nights Daniel wasn't working and we came across another employee. My husband and I were on our way to the beach and the employee who was covering Daniel, stopped my husband and I. He mentioned that we didn't have a reservation. My husband then replied and told him "yes we do for the rest of our stay". He had then corrected himself and explained to us that it's not till 9:00pm. I believe he traded our reservation since we had confirmation of all our dinner reservations. Luckily, a nice lady named Martha. Told us not to worry that our usual table will be ready for 8:00pm. Apparently, she is in charge of all the restaurants. This was resolved with no further issues. The next day a similar case occurred. Except for it happened to my friend and her husband, from room 6009. Her husband and her had dinner reservations at 8:00pm, at Talapa. They arrived on time, but were told no tables were available to wait outside, but it wasn't until about 9 that we were leaving and I had then asked her how her dinner was. She replied that she still has yet to know. She was waiting for a whole hour. So, I decided to talk to the lady, who's name is Aury. She was rude and stated that she had left. I then explained to her that she was told to wait outside. Anyhow. By this time my friend and her husband's dinner wasn't served till 9:30pm. We as guest travel to go on vacation and pay for a service, of course we expect this service to be a wonderful experience. Even more so when you pay extra for PRIVILEGE ??, but apparently it is the opposite. We overcame this the last straw. It was September 15, our group of 4 went out for drive, in a car that we rented which was parked at the hotel parking lot, we returned on the same day September 15 at 10:30 am and we parked the car in the same place in the parking lot from the Catálonia Royal Tulum in front of 2 cameras, but on September 17 around 5:30 in the afternoon my husband and our friend where on their way to the pharmacy and when they arrive at the parking lot they find the car back bumper damaged. My husband went to ask the reception if they could check the hotel cameras they told my husband they would get to it then notify him they never called him, the next day it was our check out, my husband asked the reception again if they reviewed the cameras she answered, unfortunately, that camera sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. How is it that both cameras were non-functioning? There were 2. Initially, when we arrived to check-in, on our first day, they had verified that all cameras were working. The service they provide when you arrive is great especially before they take payment. They definitely represent 5 star quality hotel service. But the quality of the service diminishes as the days past by. You realize that sometimes the hotel on the 5th Avenue IS BETTER AND THE PARKING ON THE STREET is possibly safer. For the same reason, that the CATALONIA HOTEL does not take responsibility for what happens within its property including the parking lot. You would think that a hotel surrounded by cameras serves its purpose. Unfortunately, not the case. PLEASE IT IS NOT WORTH IT TO STAY IN THIS HOTEL, along with thier car rentals. DO NOT STAY HERE! DO NOT GO THROUGH THE same PROBLEM. Unless, you want to have that insecurity of non-working cameras, which are their for saftey reasons too. And if you don't mind going without dinner due to poor in-service from few of the employees.

We vacationed at Catalonia Royal Tulum from 9/5 - 9/12. It was our 4th time and we loved it and will keep returning. The staff, as always was friendly and attentive to everyone. They were well prepared for serving their customers during this covid pandemic. They are constantly sanitizing and making sure everything is clean. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches you will every see in your life. The swim up bar was a fun place to hang out and meet people. The food was good and the beer was cold. Overall we had a fantastic time & we highly recommend Catalonia Royal Tulum.

We've been to multiple resorts. Catalonia did well with offering a good experience with limited resources. All of the staff were excellent. Pool bars, beach, gym and spa were all available. We look forward to coming back once the shows and night club are able to be open to have the full Catalonia experience.
