Just returned from Sandos Caracol. We spent 8 nights and came close to extending but real life priorities came calling. First off, this resort as well as others are rebounding from Covid and more importantly two hurricanes. The huricanes hit this particular resort hard. I believe this was due to the jungle type setting. Much more difficult to remove trees, shrubs, clean cenotes etc. In the time we were there we saw vast improvement, electrical work, trees removed, painting etc. Due to limited capacity due to Covid, that means they do not have the numbers of staff needing to make this a quick turn around that some on here think should happen. Everyone was as friendly and helpful as could be. A special shout out to Rueben and Kevin in entertainment and all of the bar folks. Room was very clean and cleaned everyday we requested. 5 gallon water bottle is a nice touch, saves on wasted smaller bottles. We stayed in building 30. Food: Very happy with all of the restaurants. Las Lirios was our favorite for all meals but we changed it up. The japanese-El Templo was excellent. You have the option of the buffet. Resort in general is very large, lots of animals running around, cenotes you can swim in and even some small ruins on site. Several swim pools, some fairly quit during this time and some of the normal restaurants are closed although they are working on getting them up and running. If you are looking to get away during this covid stuff, take the plunge and enjoy. yes, folks are wearing masks, flight was great, just follow the rules and you will be fine.

I have stayed at many resorts in Mexico and Cozumel. There are plus and minus to them all... Sandos Caracol has not been the worst resort but it’s definitely not high on the list of places to revisit. We have stayed at the Sandos Playacar resort and loved it!! We have also stayed at the Vadanta resorts and been very happy (but you pay for everything. Not all inclusive) We are here now at Sandos Caracol as royal elite members, pretty much plan to eat cold hotdogs and hamburgers throughout the day. The royal elite pool area does have better selections of appetizers but with only 8 lounge chairs and nine patio sets they get filled up early. I this resort seems to use the Eco mindset as a reason to be less than great. Service is very very slow and they are not helpful unless they know a tip is coming. When arriving they say to book all dinner reservations upon arrival or you won’t be able to get into restaurants. I understand some restaurants maybe popular and one or two places is fine, but I’m sorry. I’m on vacation and I shouldn’t have to plan every days meals and activities as soon as I arrive! Sandos caracol resort should have more options than one mediocre buffet. Sandos caracol is also a very pushy resort, lots of people asking to give massage, braids, activities, and selling items. The animals on site are also in small cages and they keep deer in a below grade pen near the water park. We are currently staying in two royal elite penthouse suites. The king bed is horrible. Our kids beds at home are thicker than this bed!! The smaller lounge bed/couch is very soft and comfortable. You do get the use or snorkel masks, kayaks and bicycles with your stay. But snorkel flippers are only available if you do a tour. Anything else is another charge along with an upgrade charge.... we have noticed also that if paying with cash they automatically figure the peso to dollars for you. But most times they double the charge. (Example: We had a meal charge of 1500 pesos or $250USD) Be very cautious while staying along the Rivera. Thank you for your time. Best wishes with everyone’s vacations!

    Not good...

We there early Nov service good because employees need the tips.. but food was bad cleaness of the grounds was sad and bad... never had hot water and management had plenty excuses for their failures but no solutions... Not a good place to visit.

Excellent experience considering the circumstances! Highly recommend.

We are finishing up our last day at Sandos Caracol eco-resort. We have had an absolutely wonderful time considering the limitations presented by COVID-19 and the recent hurricanes. Their staff has done an excellent job of keeping up with both the hurricane damage and the COVID-19 situation. We had a completely normal vacation and enjoyed our stay despite everything. This resort is an amazing experience filled with lots of trees, water, animals, wildlife, etc. because of the recent damage, some of the restaurants are closed but they are serving all of the menus on a rotating basis at the remaining restaurants. We had very low expectations coming into this trip because of some of the recent negative reviews. I can say that they went above and beyond all of our expectations and provided an absolutely wonderful family vacation. Really, the only negative that I can think of at the moment is the fact that there was not a 24/7 snack bar. However, they did provide 24/7 room service which was nice. Like most all inclusive resorts, the buffet food was pretty bland and boring. However, we ended up eating at the à la carte restaurants which were amazing. We also did the vacation club presentation and upgraded our wristbands to get access to the adults only areas and the nicer a-la-carte breakfast and lunch restaurant Los Lirios which was by far our favorite food spot. We found the employees to be very gracious and friendly and if felt like they constantly went above and beyond. Also, if you were looking for a massage, don’t overpay at the resort, if you go down the beach to the massage hut with red letters, look for Chio and she will give you an amazing massage for $20! We ended up getting massages on the beach almost every single day. It was so amazing for the price. We definitely hope to return here someday when our kids are older as well. Be prepared to do lots of walking, especially if your room is not close to the beach. Our rooms were much nicer than we expected and felt brand new with lots of modern amenities including built-in Bluetooth speakers, mini bar, water dispenser, and more. It would’ve been really nice if they stocked snacks in the mini bar as well. They were a couple times and we found ourselves in need of last minute snacks for our child and did not have access anything.

    Great Times! Definitely Recommend

We recently stayed at Sandos Caracol and had a wonderful stay! We came for the large water park with toddler, children and adult slides- and it exceeded our expectations. We had stayed at Sandos Playacar in September and although their waterpark was newer, it was smaller (only toddler/kids slides). With Covid and 30% max capacity for hotels here, we were pleasantly surprised by the number of restaurants open (they rotated which is smart). We stayed 2 nights and ate at the Teppanyaki Grill (Monica was amazing, and my husband loved the warm sake) and the Italian restaurants (a bit disappointing). Lunch was at the Laguna buffet. And breakfasts were room service. I really enjoyed the lattes from the lobby bar in the mornings. When I called guests services or room service- the operator was ALWAYS very kind, open to helping and delivered exactly what I was needing (I called a few times a day, lol). The shops had some really good deals, I got a new bathing suit and my daughter a dress. The Kids Club here is big. The only negatives here were the same as my only negatives at Sandos Playacar: lack of vegetarian options and early shut down time (last bar closed at 11, Playacar was later 12). Nighclub at Caracol was closed while we were there but online said it was open. I would say Playacar was better for vegetarians (except breakfast- the room service veggie omelet at Caracol was great). But other meals Playacar had vegan, very delicious a la carte menu items that were available upon request. Caracol did not. And other than breakfast, snacks and Teppanyaki Grill, we ate salad bar the whole time (which is fine). We ordered some cheese quesadillas from room service, which were not on the menu... but like I said the room service operator was amazing! The Italian restaurant was disappointing because the menu lists pizza to order but we were told to just grab the older buffet pizza slices coming out, even though I saw tables getting their own fresh pizzas. We ordered a linguine alfredo but it randomly came with ham. No bueno. But all and all- it was amazing! House wine was good. Service was always exceptional. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. From asking questions online before our booking, Warren & Frederico were both extremely helpful. Areli Lopez was our reservation agent and helped make our stay extra special. We were able to use Sandos4u coins for a bottle of sparkling wine. When we mentioned we were coming to Caracol for the waterpark, she upgraded us and gave us the perfect room, overlooking the kids slides. It was amazing!! We smoke and there is no smoking in the waterpark, so having a room so close by was great. Also, no drink service in waterpark so we were able to grab beers from the minibar, which saved the day. We enjoyed our stay so much that we became members and will be returning again shortly and inviting more family and friends. Aladair, Daniel & Alonso were also central to making our stay so fun and memorable.
