The Good - Clean - No saving of pool or beach chairs allowed. - The food was good and you had some variety from night to night. - We had a bad odour in our room and the maintenance came quickly and cleaned out the filter in the air conditioner which fixed the problem. - Staff was friendly and easy to deal with. The Bad - The Entertainment was typical resort entertainment. - Could never get a reservation at the ale carte at the time we wanted and of course lots of empty tables. - Hand and face towels are in short supply. - When we arrived we requested a king bed and of course it was not available, unless we wanted to upgrade to the priority section of the hotel for an extra fee. - Staff was friendly and easy to deal with. - This hotel catered to the locals, as I saw it, even though we were treated fine. - Security was tight and would advise you not to go outside the resort for a walk, as well if you decide to go north for a walk on the beach they would also advise you not to go, and asked to sign a waiver that you were going. Not a very safe feeling when leaving the resort.

Thoroughly enjoyed my 7 night stay here. The food was fantastic. Lots of different options daily at the buffet so you never got tired of eating the same old food. Lots of fruit, huge salad bar, always multiple types of meat, fish, veggies, pastas, rice and potatoes. The a la carte dinner restaurants entrees were amazing. Desserts were just okay. Level of service was always great. Stayed on the Premium side. The rooms were nothing fancy but were clean so no complaints. Bryan and Hanzel were very helpful on checkin and checkout and answering our questions daily. The premium pool area had lots of shaded areas which I appreciated. Richard at the pool bar always made sure everyone was taken care of - even walking around to take orders and deliver. Danny provided great towel service. This resort is right on the beach. I spent every morning in a lounge chair facing the ocean relaxing, listening to the waves. And every evening there watching the beautiful sunset - perfect view! The beach is public and there were locals there on the weekend but I never felt unsafe. The premium rooms all have a view of the ocean from the balcony. Would definitely recommend!

we came here as a girls senior break trip in college. we weren’t expecting much based off the price, but it’s been amazing! well worth it! the service is incredible and everyone has been so helpful. whenever we have a concern or question, they have been there to help right away. the food, service, and room is way better than expected! it’s definitely more of a local spot and the drinks are a little watered down but for sure worth the price! would definitely recommend. a beautiful spot!

Good food, good staff, great sunsets

First off, I am not a regular resort person so have only a couple of experiences to compare to. We were on the premium side of the resort which has it's own swimming pool, beach loungers, and staff. The staff were all great, shout out to Bryan & Hanzel operating the desk. We always appreciated the warms smiles from Karen as she served people around the pool and Richard at the bar was definitely our preference for ordering a drink at the wet bar and around the pool. The drinks were ok to great, depending on which staff member made them. More consistency there would be nice as it mainly seemed like each staff member just eyeballed the contents. The same drink could taste dramatically different each time. The rooms themselves were nothing special, clean enough for us. Nice views of the pool and the ocean though from the balcony, but we didn't go there to hang out in the room, so no big deal. The beds, which is the main part, were great. Very clean. Everyone on the trip (3 of us) were all impressed by the buffet. The food was very good, no real complaints there. We ate at the restaurants most of the nights and they were nice as well. The one is right at the beach, open air, which was nice, not that you can see much as the seating times tended to start after sunset any ways. The grounds were very well kept and clean. Pool wise, we were only in the premium pool, it was generally good, but could use more skimming as throughout the day we'd run into more and more objects floating around (hair, bandaids). The should probably get into a habbit of skimming the pool more than just in the morning. We hung out under the bridges for the most part because we liked the shade, which seemed to be a collection zone for floaties due to the flow of the water. End of the day, it didn't put us off that much as I'd expect that in any pool that is being actively used. The premium area was also a lot quieter, which we also liked. The beach here is fun to play in if you like waves, however there is a lot of sediment kicked up in the water so its not "pretty" water. The sand is black, which gets pretty darn hot to walk on. We still played in the ocean a couple of hours each day. Don't leave your stuff on the beach though as it is not private (all beaches in Costa Rica are apparently public), so the locals, mostly teenagers will hang out there at various times in the day. I had sandals stolen the last last day by some teenagers, jokes on them though as I was going to throw them in the trash at the end of the day any way. The resort does own thw pier here, which provides an area that is constantly in shade if you want to play in the ocean without always being in the sun. This is also the area that all the local will congregate under, so be warned. Just leave any valuable on a chair on the resort grounds or in your room before going to splash in the ocean. Location wise, we were rather far from most things. The excursions we did were all more than an hour away (Naranjo Coffee Tour, Monteverde Cloud Forest, La Fortuna waterfall & Baldi Hot Springs) from the resort and landing in San Jose we also needed to Uber to it which was just over an hour as well. All in all, good time and great value as well.

Prices are inexpensive. Resort is a "locals" vacation destination. Staff is primarily Spanish speaking and very kind. Guests are primarily Spanish speaking. "Premium" section had more English speaking guests. The food is fair. Restaurants clean. Guests are strongly advised not to leave the property because it is not safe. When we tried to leave the resort to walk the Long Beach, we were advised not to leave. When we tried to go into town we were advised not to leave, and if we did, "do not take a cell phone or cash". No bathrooms near pools. So what do people do? They stay in the pool all day.....eek! The Premium pool was super cloudy and it didn't appear that the pump/skimmer was working. The beach is not owned by the resort so the local kids hang out in front of the resort, especially on the weekend. In saying this, the resort can not control their behavior. If it is not safe to venture outside of the resort, why is it safe to allow the local community to hang out in front of our resort? The locals were asking guests to get them food. During dinner one evening, we heard 3 gunshots just outside of the resort. We saw the gunshots and the gunman run. We saw the local kids and resort guards run away from the scene. We understand this was an isolated incident and the resort personnel reacted quickly by contacting the national police. I will not visit this resort again or recommend it. I think it's great that there is an all-inclusive for locals however.
