This property shouhd not be reccommended to anyone. No hot water for half of the stay, no towelservice, just a nasty place to vacation. Heard horror stories from other guests, aunts, no A.C.etc. The beaches were the best part of the trip, having not been in a all inclusive in Cuba before however vactioned in a all inclusive elswhere, the food was not what I have experieced before.

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT! DO NOT BE LIKE ME, I THOUGHT IT WOULD NOT BE THAT BAD... TRUST ME WHEN I SAY ITS THAT BAD!

I highly suggest not coming to this resort, I just spent the last week there and it was terrible! Not only did my phone get stolen, and my moms hair straightener. The bathrooms are filthy, and smell like your walking into an outhouse. We originally had a superior ocean room, and there was not a SINGLE towel to be found in the room. We then were moved to a bungalow room, and the room was dirty, COVERED in ants, again not a single towel, no hot water and when my mother-in-law did try to have a cold shower the drain backed up and completely flooded her room. I was warned prior to the trip to Cuba to not have high expectations for the food, so I was prepared to not be eating well, but I was not prepared for this! The food was burnt, or completely raw. Covered in flies, and ice cold. The meals were the same everyday, and needless to say I ate breads and butter all week long, if there was any bread left. Not to mention, all bars close at 11pm, and beer is the only drink available past then. This was the most expensive trip, and absolute worst I have ever been on! I hope this review helps anyone who is looking at the photos, thinking its “nice and not to bad” that ALL PHOTOS are 100% photoshopped. PLEASE TRUST ME WHEN I SAY, DO NOT BE ME! DO NOT GO HERE! ITS THAT BAD.

I scoured reviews before coming as was first trip with 8 month old infant coming from vancouver canada. i’ll go in stages on our experience- overall i’d return; absolutely! i def feel having a baby helped us get maybe some extra love where otherwise might not have been. the cuban people are so kind and lovely and were eager to hold our baby and give us water bottles for her. ROOM i requested a renovated superior bungalow and a crib on booking thru flight centre and when we arrived we received both! Our superior bungalow is in a motel style block of superior bungalow rooms. we were in block 32, room 3216. A new pack n play was provided By the hotel (received no confirmation after requesting with travel agent so we brought our own to err on side of caution after hearing reviews of old rickety wooden cribs, not the case, see picture) The AC worked excellent Zero leaks to be found anywhere Zero bed bugs (i checked!) Zero cockroaches a few mini bugs crawling around on day 5 where we put our food- our fault really but harmless and totally livable. Coffee maker provided; no coffee or filters (i brought coffee, filters and a travel kettle as baby would be napping and one of us would be room bound) Mini fridge cold, one fresh 1500 mL water and pop provided daily (we don’t drink alcohol so requested no beer after we gave the original beers to someone who helped us up the stairs) No problem with room keys balcony door locked loudly but locked securely and the outside looked wonky but it worked! 2 plastic patio chairs and a table on balcony for us Bedside lights worked telephone fuzzy new tv with english speaking channels BATHROOM bathroom had hot hot water in morning and evening shampoo and conditioner dispenser in shower 2 blue bath towels and a white hand towel proved (these we used as shower towels and bright our own towels from home for pool beach- a friend lost hers and had to pay 25 CUC) hairdryer on wall didn’t work but didn’t matter for me as i air dried! new toilet with secure lid CLOSET safe present, didn’t use, iron and ironing board provided strange hotel hangers in closet that did the trick BED King size bed with crisp white sheets and 4 jumbo pillows with clean fresh pillow cases. Linen wasn’t changed all week but linen is a thing here. just dry off and sand off before bed. brought our own pillow cases based on prior reviews- not required in renoed bungalow superior! LOCATION OF ROOM block 32 great location on the edge of the solymar complex super close to arenas- could see the grease show from here at arenas pool but not too loud. VERY QUIET location! No elevator if you are on the top level of the bungalows like we were. we are mobile but this would be an issue if you were not. Other people in our party did switch rooms from main hotel to bungalows throughout the stay- and there were def some dire reviews from them re: their previous rooms (mainly in hotel or unrenovated bungalows) i think block 21 was not renovated but block 27 is as well. it really depends on what you get placed in here so i would just always request a renovated room. THE GROUNDS pretty foliage and pathways throughout. this is not mexico, there is chipping paint and uneven paths and really rickity hans rails (check stability before u use even in block 32) some decorative pools were not filled with water hot tubs were empty but it’s too darn hot anyways pools at solymar bright blue whole time THE BEACH gorgeous tons of shade in palm trees (watch out for falling coconuts for real) tons of palapas a few sand fleas volley ball nets up, my husband joined games 2-3 days didn’t use my pop up beach tent i brought for baby beach clean but there are weird spiky things close to palm trees so wear sandals THE NIGHTLIFE a bit of entertainment throughout day at main solymar pool but seemed inconsistent and no one was really into it arenas blancas pool seemed more party vibe don’t drink so didn’t really go looking for a party it gets dark at night so bring a flashlight if you don’t want to waste time finding your bungalow- paths are unlit FOOD: the serving staff at buffet linda are lovely. they provided high chairs at both arenas buffet and solymar avoid solymar buffet at end of meal time- get there bright and early or food may run out or not look very food safe on hot plates. legit. we ate breakfast there this morning and it was SO GOOD- see photos. the bread was hot and just out of the oven. overall we preferred the arenas blancas buffet for both breakfast and lunch and dinner but also went off resort too. arenas had bananas too, solymar didn’t filtered water gave us no problems on resort, fill up at lobby bar and leave a tip coffee at lobby bar is amazing we probably drank 10 a day between us we’d come back for sure. this complex is the closest to varedaro town and we walked to a great 24 hour burger place at about calle 39 across from the bank. (30 min walk ) because we were in a renovated suite our fears weren’t brought to fruition, but others weren’t happy with the rooms they were originally given. but now that we’ve been here we’d def return!

It was an alright resort, beautiful beach!!!! and the service/help from Hector Alexander Benitez Marte at Barcelo Solymar and Arenas Blancas Resort was amazing. My boyfriend missed his flight and he did so much to help him get organized and figure out his next steps to do.

All in all I had fun time at this resort. It was pretty quiet but I didn’t expect it to be a huge party during the off season. One thing I did find weird is that there was no 24 hour bar. Which again may be because it wasn’t peek season and they couldn’t justify having someone at the bar all night long with nobody ordering anything. We also didn’t have any hot water in the main building of the resort during our stay apparently the boiler was broken. Also something I could live with out after being in 38 degree weather all day long! The food wasn’t good and going to Cuba I don’t expect it’s to be good anyways but I always found something I liked at the buffet. We had an amazing ocean view from the 4th floor everyday I went on the balcony and it amazed me how beautiful Cuba really is. There is an entertainment staff member named Alejandro I believe. He was a very fun guy getting people at the pool involved in all the games and just going around the pool and talking to all the guest. The pool bar tenders David and Jorge were there for the whole week I was there and they were great always served me right away with a smile! Our Maid Grey was amazing my room was always cleaning and smelling fresh everyday with extra water in the fridge. The pool was very nice and refreshing I spent the majority of my vacation in it. They wifi wasn’t the greatest but it worked well enough for me to check emails and social media. I had a fun time during this stay here at Barceló Soylmar with convenience of getting into the town of varadero and the beautiful pools and beaches but I don’t think I will be returning.
