We have gone for a number of years to this hotel and last time when we went, we enjoyed the updating done to the buildings, including new air conditioners and the elevators, while slow, worked which was very helpful, especially for my husband who doesn't do stairs very well.. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Main concern was that the food selection has diminished and their system of getting into the special restaurants (could get tickets only once a week) meant that we missed it when we arrived and so only was able to get it once in the 14 day stay. Their old way of checking for it every day was fairer. We are still going again this year.

The food was terrible and we were ill and continued to be ill for 3 weeks after we got home. This was even after taking Dukoral before we went. Will give Cuba a miss from now on. The sand fleas and mosquitos were vicious. Not a good experience.

It is simple. If you are waiting to welcome people at the door of the restaurant then you should be opening the door with a beautiful smile, you should salud your customer. You should at least say a word. I know it is hard to work in this country but if you are not capable to do it then don't. (this not is written for a particular person who needs an education to complish her job/ tall Afro Cuban lady) Beside that all the people that work at the hotel are amazingly nice.

This was my first trip to Cuba, however both my parents were born on the island. We were a group of 6 people, with a total of three room. We phoned the hotel prior to arriving to ask if our rooms were ready, as we wanted to check in early, they informed us that our rooms were ready and we’d be welcome to arrive anytime. Upon arrival our rooms were not ready and we had to wait in the hot lobby for 1 hour and a half, there are no ceiling fans at all in the lobby. The Rooms: horrible. My bathroom had no light at all, when we told the maid her response was “there’s nothing I can do, turn on the hallway light and shower with the door open. All three of our rooms had mold on the walk and air vents. The next morning we all woke up with sore through and my stepbrother had an asthma attack. There were no big towels in our room at all, we had to dry ourselves with those tiny hair/hand towels. The next morning we went straight to reception and pleaded for new rooms, thankfully we all speak fluent Spanish and they front desk lady’s were sympathetic to some extent. However our new rooms were just as horrible as the first three. Our new room had no air conditioning at all, we slept one night with no air, and the next day back to reception. At this point everyone in our group were frustrated, we hadn’t unpacked any of our things, the hotel had us moving from floor to floor without any care. We decided to switch room with two members from our group and they would take our room with no air conditioning, this was against my will as I wanted to be moved yet again. Long story short, the rooms were a hot mess, they were dirty, uncomfortable beds, blood stains on the floor, ants all over the place, no air, moldy, dated/broken furniture. Thankfully I brought Mrs. Meyers cleaner and clorox wipes to disinfect the rooms. Lets move onto the food/drinks: The food wasn’t the best, mediocre at best. I follow a vegetarian diet that allows cheese and eggs, my stepmom is allergic to seafood, and my stepbrother only eats chicken. The food had no seasonings or flavor at all, the cheese smelled rotten and tasted foul. No variation at all, it was the same things over and over again for the seven days we stayed. The lunch buffet by the beach had slightly better food, with some more flavor but still nothing to rave about. I ate plain pasta with bread for seven days lunch and dinner, for breakfast was toast and a hard boiled egg and chocolate donut. Something about the food/water was definitely off, my stomach would hurt so bad after each meal, it was unbearable. Sometimes I had to rush to the bathroom and other times I was still in pain but didn’t need to use the bathroom. Drinks at the bar were either a hit or miss, piña colada’s were watery and beer was sometimes watery as well. The food sucked, we were always hungry, I lost 7lbs during my trip and thats not an exaggeration at all, I was starving by the time I got home. Pool/beach: Pool was alright, we didn’t spend much time in there, however the day after I went in the pool, I got an ear infection, there could be a correlation between that. The beach was AMAZING, its the only highlight of our trip. The water was crystal clear and perfectly clear. The thinnest sand ever, just spectacular. OVERALL: DO NOT STAY HERE, this hotel needs to be torn down and built new, I honestly considered wiping out my savings and booking next door at the Meliá International because thats how bad this hotel was. Take my advice, save your money, and don’t stay here.

July 21-27 2019 Worth a look if the price is right

Nice hotel and nice people. Very dated hotel and rooms, very cool if you like old school. The food is boring and less then hot at the buffet. Very edible and normal food just no taste/spices added. The people are wonderful and never rude, that includes the workers at the hotel, on the tours and in the city. The beach and ocean is unbelievable, that alone is worth the trip. If the cost is reasonable its a MUST to travel to Cuba. Would I stay here again? maybe, if the price is right.
