Terrible service

Here we go…. Before I start we are very laid back people who will make the most of everything. All the 4 - 5 star reviews I think must be from guests with butler service because if you don’t pay the extra you get 2 - 3* service at best 50% of the bar and restaurant staff are so unhappy and disengaging, and some dam right rude it spoiled our holiday. Arrived at Sandles Antigua on march 2nd, first impression was nice reception room ok balcony small. We had room service but never used it as who wants eat on a tiny table on a small balcony. Main pool is quite impressive but as you look closer there’s cracked and missing tiles. I had to get up at 6.30 every morning to secure a sun bed either round the pool or on the beach, never had this at any other 5* hotels, Grounds and gardens are immaculate. Beach is beautiful and there’s plenty of paddle boards kayaks and hobbie cats which we used most days. The diving and snorkelling is very professional and well equipped. Bars; Definitely not premium beers or spirits cocktails are not passable for this so called 5* hotel if you asked for a mojito you might be lucky and they have mint but the bar tender will roll there eyes and should be in the Guinness book of records as its made in seconds with no dedication to there craft. Pool side service is pretty much non existent we saw more turtles I think. Restaurants; Food is average in all restaurants apart from the sushi and Japanese. Lots of mashed potatoes with a single piece of broccoli and a slice of carrot. The Drunken Duck; (British Pub) Not sure what they were thinking with this place needs flattening trouble is it’s the only place for drinks in the evening at the Mediterranean End which is where most of the entertainment is performed. If this Pub/Bar was in England no one would visit it.. The whole resort is lacking in outside area to sit and have a drink in the evening near a bar, lots of little areas with fire pits etc but no bar nearby bar or waiter service. Unless you have Butler Service obviously… Was thinking of trying Sandles St Lucia next year with some friends of ours for a 50th and 60th Birthday but will be looking elsewhere, such a shame they don’t live up to the hype.
The best Sandals trip ever

This is our 3rd Sandals/Beaches trip. We loved Turks and Caicos and Barbados where we went prior. But, we really loved Antigua. The beach is amazing and they have snorkeling 3 times a day included which picks you up right at the beach. The pools were amazing and never felt crowded. Like all Sandals you want to get up and save some chairs by 7:00 AM. If you do you’ll have chairs every day. We stayed on the older Caribbean side in one of the two story buildings. The rooms are still in great shape and these buildings each have their own pool and hot tub which was nice if you want your own more quiet place to enjoy. We primarily went to the large reflections pool. Great drinks and never too busy to get served. —- What made this the best trip ever though was the staff. You must remember these names and try to find them. They will give you the best service and treat you like you are part of their family!! — Akeila A. Is the BEST cocktail waitress ever. She was always checking to make sure we had everything we needed. She even had some of her own special drink recipes. We LOVE her! She always remember our names and it was like we’ve known her forever. —- Kimroy is an amazing bartender at the reflections pool. He always remembered our favorite drinks and knew us by name after the first day. —- Joy was a bar tender at the Caribbean pool. We got drinks from her each day on our way to other pools and she smiled at us each day and started having our drinks ready right when we got there. —- Chadd at the Barefoot restaurant was the best waiter. He was so funny and took great care of us. —- Threcia in the Spa gave me the best massage I’ve ever had. Her smile just lights up the room. —- Jadourni, was our morning breakfast chef and she remember my wife and I every morning. My wife has to avoid gluten and she made sure to carefully prepare her meal every day. My wife just adores her.

Romance and Relaxation- Anniversary

My husband and I came here for our 10-year wedding anniversary. Sandals Antigua offered us the perfect romance and relaxation combo. Thank you Shanique K for being so attentive to our needs and for ensuring our glasses were filled, our tummies were satisfied, and we had the best overthinking experience!
Sandals Grande Antigua

First time to a Sandals and we enjoyed our stay ! We had no issues whatsoever with our room or the service. The resort itself is a little older and needs some updates. The grounds are spectacular and well maintained. We were in the Mediterranean village side of the property in a walkout which was great. The beach is clean and the ocean very nice . The staff at the resort were very friendly and courteous always saying hello and smiling. The food is ok but could be better , definitely need to make reservations for a few of them or you will not be able to get in for dinner. Buffet breakfasts were good at Mario's restaurant. Somethings to be aware of if your planning to go , entertainment is limited and it is a ghost town by 930pm, this needs improvement by the resort, the beaches in Antigua are all public so be prepared to share the beach when cruise ships come into port, there will be a lot of bodies on the beach as they use Dickenson bay beach as a drop off for those passengers wanting a beach day. Be prepared to get up early to get a beach chair as by 7am all the good ones are gone. Something Sandals needs to do is have more chairs available. All in all a good resort but not 100% sure I would go back, I would probably try another location.
