Melia Cozumel Great Resort
Reviewed by Sellndive(Palmdale, California) on Jan 19, 2021
Enjoyed our 9-day stay. Hotel was extremely clean and observing COVID sanitation procedures. Rooms were new and nicely decorated/furnished with excellent beach view. Because of COVID, specialty restaurants were closed, but buffet and snack bar had adequate food available. Suggest fewer buffet entrees and more "made to order" options. Guacamole and salsa...yummy! Fresh-fried red snapper was great for lunch but would have been a great option for dinner as well. Enjoyed the soup entrees every day. All staff were friendly and efficient. Standouts were Antonio at the door always greeting us by name, Gerardo constantly serving our palapa with a smile with every drink request, and Claudia making our omelets every day.
Amazing Time!

It was our second time in Cozumel and first time at the hotel Melia. We stayed one week. My husband and my 2 boys (15 & 10) LOVED it. We came with another family and they loved it too. When we learnt that Cozumel was open we decided to book a vacation and forget all about Covid and the stress of the daily life. Mission accomplished, it's a great place to relax. The staff is very nice, except the girls at the front desk. Christian, head of animation did a very good job keeping our kids (10, 12,14, 15 and 17) busy and entertained. We played tennis, ping pong, volley ball and many other activities like water aerobics. You can also book the gym and exercise with your group up to 4 people. Carlos and Maria were also wonderful entertainer. The staff at the bar, Felipe, Santos and Enrique were the best barmen. The bar at the beach is so much fun. We spent the new years eve party at the beach and it was one of our best NYE party. Feet in the sand, drink in our hands, DJ music, shows etc... The beach is white sand and the sea is crystal clear. There is no rocks going in the sea which is not always the case in the south of the island. The hotel was only 35% occupied and we could easily find a sun lounger at one of the 2 pools, one is adult only or on the beach. Our room was nice but we would have preferred not to be in the tall building although the view was amazing. The food was OK but we never expect fine dining on a all inclusive stay. My boys went diving twice and it's a 30 minutes taxi drive to go to the diving area and 10 minutes to the main town. Don't take the boat from the Melia to go diving, take the taxi. We really had a great time. We came back very realxed. We will be back for sure.
nice location, nice people, very bad food

Actually we liked the hotel and the location. Would be a great place to relax. Unfortunately the food was average to bland. There was just the buffet restaurant. The other one was closed. No cheese for breakfast, if you want to drink black tea- well bring your own- they don't have any. You are vegetarian? Perfect - you can have the vegetables, which are just heated up frozen ones. Very little choices and poor taste. One entire week with the same breakfast. We stayed in 14 hotels this times- this was the worst food. The rooms and the hotel itself are in an urgent need of an renovation. In the 12 storey building one of the two elevators was out of service the whole week. They sell premium rooms which don' t have the promised coffee machines, no bathrobes, you can not use the Cafe Paraiso Restaurant. No bycicle rent , no laundry service. They should close the hotel.
My first time at a MELIÁ hotel WILL NOT BE LAST

Tired of the COVID-19 travel restrictions, l jumped at the chance to FINALLY visit a sunny location and l was NOT disappointed! This chain is based out of Spain and they did everything right! We booked a PREMIUM OCEANFRONT ROOM, and the view was incredible. The food at the BUFFET restaurant was awesome! We were never disappointed. While the foods may have been the same (beef, chicken, pork, fish) , the executive chef FRANCISCO, always changed it up by changing the spices and flavors and how it was cooked, thus always making it seem different. Our cabana guy FAUSTO was incredible and quickly learned our favorite drinks (Cabanas are for use by the clients in Premium rooms, but the difference in price is nominal) . He always made sure we had a fresh drink, beach towels, etc. When not at the cabanas, we hung out by the pool, where our favorite bartender SANTOS also made sure we had a fresh drink, be it water, colas, or alcoholic beverage. The pool was ADULT ONLY although there was a pool for kids located elsewhere. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are going back in April or May!
Melia Cozumel Golf - All Inclusive

We spent 8 days at Melia Golf in Cozumel, including New Year's. We enjoyed ourselves very much, but overall, there are a few areas that are lacking. Pros: The wonderful staff, so attentive and friendly. Shout out to beach waiters Fausto and Gerardo, bartender Felipe, front desk Lia, Erik and Tania, children's director Suzy, activities Carlos, head chef Francisco, and room attendant Gabriel. Of note was the exceptional New Year's Eve beach party! The resort sectioned off areas for each family, and provided seating, party favors, entertainment, and DJ music. It was a lot of fun, and the staff worked hard all night. Cons: The rooms are in desperate need of updating. There were no lamps on the bedside tables, and the glaring overhead light was not very welcoming. Overall, the rooms look rundown. There were only 2 restaurants and the snack bar open - the buffet and Cafe Paraiso. The buffet breakfast was fine, but the dinner was just okay, at best. I don't know if part of the reason was because the hotel was only at about 35% capacity, but the variety was pretty slim. The snack bar was open until 5:30 pm each night with the usual offerings, burgers, hot dogs, and quesadillas, etc. Cafe Paraiso was pretty good, and the dinner on New Year's Eve was excellent, filet and shrimp. We were celebrating a birthday on New Year's Eve, and Francisco, the head chef personally delivered a cake to Cafe Paraiso, which was very much appreciated. The best part of the trip was the beach! Very soft sand, and always easy to find a chair in the shade. Fausto and Gerardo, the beach waiters were outstanding, and worked very hard for their well-earned tips! We tried to be generous with all staff that we came in contact with, knowing how tough things have been for those in the tourist industry.
