Lovely resort with beautiful grounds and hard working staff. BUT We had no luck avoiding the incessant smoking of many of the guests at the restaurant and beach. It would be considerate to have part of the huge beach area set aside for non smokers. Cigarette machines are on the property (pic), so yeah. A non-smoking beach area is probably not going to happen Good breakfast buffet. Gorgeous Caribbean water. Two nice pools. I guess if cigar, pipe, and cigarette smoke don't bother you, go for it.

We just returned to winter in Chicago after a heavenly trip. From the moment we arrived staff were helpful and welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed. From Joruette at the front desk to Surandi and Iro, and everyone else, they did everything the could to make our stay the best it could be. We do not demand a lot, but they went above and beyond. It is a fabulous resort and the people there were really great. We can’t wait to return. The room and the grounds are superbly maintained and clean. Also on the grounds, Hemingway’s restaurant, one of four on site, is a great amenity. Staff here were also fantastic, Ana, Inez, Jessie, Rob and all the others were great hosts/waiters and even friends by the and of our stay. Go there for food, drinks, music and relaxing vibe. Eat on the beach. Have drinks in the beach chairs and watch the sunset. We ended every day at Hemingway’s for a night cap on the water’s edge. We saw live music there three nights and each band was great. The beach is beautiful with plenty of space and beach chairs. Snorkel right there in their own protected swimming area where there are lots of tropical fish. Also right at the resort is Ocean Encounters dive shop. Easy access. We could see their boats from our room and walk over to their shop in five minutes, which made the 8am departure time easier than some outings where you have to be picked up an hour before the outing. Staff and crew there were great as well. I made three dives with them New Port, Jan Thiel and Tug Boat. All great. We can’t say enough good things about the time we spent at LionsDive Beach Resort. Top notch. And we cant wait to get back.

Loved the Island, loved this resort

We spent a fabulous seven nights at this wonderful resort. From booking to airport transfers, ease of check in and out, front desk staff to beach staff, and all the restaurant/bar staff we were made to feel important and welcome the whole time. We had an oceanview room, which was not huge but had a great balcony for watching the sunsets and a very comfortable bed. Love the individual duvets. And the fridge was a good size for storing drinks, etc. We enjoyed all the restaurants very much, although Nemo was overpriced we thought. Our fave place was Piazza where we enjoyed the company of the beautiful Elaine, who shared island stories and gave us a place to come for a nightcap each night. Plus the food was excellent! This resort has wonderful lush gardens - we wish we could have found out the names of all the various palms on the property. Lions Dive also strives to be ecologically green and the efforts were noticed and appreciated. Thanks to everyone there. We absolutely want to return someday!!

Off to a less than good start but luckily the experience improved through the week. We stayed in a deluxe apartment as a family in February. Initially checking-in the welcome was average, we got the feeling that this hotel sees masses of guests and it may have become a bit routine for the check in staff. Quite abrupt and transactional in style which is a shame as first visual impressions of the hotel are really good with a charming lobby, pleasant architecture and nice greenery on view beyond the door. We were offered a room on the ground floor of block 2 of the apartments with the door on the far corner next to the waste bins/ garden equipment and no view of the pool from the room or balcony (despite the website saying ’Very spacious private balcony overlooking the beautiful 50-meter pool’). We asked for a room change and the response was OK (but not very interested or particularly customer oriented). They said they were full up and then when we started to talk between ourselves about moving hotel the lady on reception rather grudgingly offered to change our room to another ground floor apartment which was available (!). Having changed rooms we settled into a pleasant apartment on the ground floor of another block with 2 good bedrooms, 2 en-suite bathrooms and a good well appointed kitchen. A pleasant terrace overlooking the pool area. Much more up to expectations and more in line with the website (although all of the photos there are taken from the higher floors which are slightly lighter). The hotel is set in very pleasant grounds, lots of attractive trees (with labels for the different varieties) and flowering shrubs with a great beach, lots of different seating options, plenty of shaded spots as well as full sun, a mixture of loungers and chairs, and a pleasant small pool on the main terrace and a really spectacular 50m lap pool next to the apartments. Because the resort is quite large the guests spread out and you never feel like it is hugely crowded - although it is a large resort with many rooms. The beach is excellent with a long stretch of lovely white sand and a protected area without boat traffic and with some excellent snorkeling around the rocks of the breakwater. There is obviously a lot of care and attention to swimming, snorkeling and diving experience and to the nature of the reef, with a coral restoration programme underway and a very good house reef. Given the great facilities and snorkeling it is difficult to motivate yourself to leave the resort! We originally planned to try all of the restaurants but in the end mainly ate at Hemingway’s which is located beautifully at the water and has a very relaxed and engaging vibe and the Italian place near the large pool. Both were excellent (good food and drinks). The thin crust pizza at the Italian place and the gin and tonics at Hemingway’s were particularly good! Service in the restaurants and bars was very fast, friendly and attentive smiling continually and really making us feel welcome and spoiled, asking if there was anything we needed etc. (perhaps swap the beach crew staff with reception once in a while!) We tried breakfast buffet at Hemingway’s a few times and the spread was good although the queue was quite long. This is because there is only one buffet area and it is all in a line with the egg station at the end. Hence everyone waits and the queue moves at the speed of someone getting an omelette even if you just want a yogurt and fruit. Could be more efficient to split the buffet and have some of the cold items somewhere else? One of the highlights for us was when the sea aquarium let the dolphins out for the open water training in the water right next to the resort - fantastic to see the dolphins playing and jumping as we were eating breakfast! A few reviewers have mentioned the noise from the nearby Mambo beach and indeed in the weekend it did bother us slightly. The beats went on until 2 in the morning but we didn’t have our sleep much interrupted. If you are a light sleeper it might be more problematic. The apartments are closer to it than the rooms in the older building. Most long haul flights leave in the evenings and it is possible to extend your room for a small fee or if they are fully booked to have the use of the resort including a very good shower and changing facilities until your pick up to the airport arrives. In summary we would stay again and would recommend to others but would also want to interact by email with the resort about the room to make sure it was a perfect holiday rather than a good or a very good one...

It is our second stay at Lion's Dive and certainly not the last! We really enjoy this wonderful piece of paradise on Earth. It location is perfect is perfect, mostly for children. It is possible to practice snorkeling and even scuba from the beach in front the hotel. It is close to the aquarium too. People here are very attentive.and friendly. We love this place
