Family getaway

My husband, myself and my 15 year old teens loved our stay here. I loved how well kept the grounds were. I am a plant lover, so I really appreciated the different plants, trees and flowers around the resort. I am also a wildlife lover and this resort does not disappoint. We saw howler, spider and white faced monkeys. Iguanas, coatis, hummingbirds, magpies, bunnies, and a variety of birds. The sunsets are spectacular!!! I would say it is a quieter resort, so if you are looking for a party, this isn't the place for you. There is a lot of walking as well, so bring comfortable shoes. My first day I did 12,000 steps just trying to find my way around. Rooms: I thought the rooms were nice, well air-conditioned and spacious. Room service was attentive and our mini bar was always restocked. Restaurants: We ate at all the restaurants except the French. We especially loved the Italian and Mexican. We ate breakfast at the buffet and were satisfied. We ordered room service for breakfast and it came on time and was hot. We had lunch at 2 different pool grills and loved them both. My favourite place was the 24 hour coffee shop. They have muffins, fruit if you are up early and want a snack, then sandwiches and ice cream at lunch and sweet treats for after dinner. It was a treat to be able to get up early and grab a coffee. The one downside I can say about the restaurants at this resort is the availability of the a-l-a cartes. We couldn't reserve ourselves a time to eat (except for the hibachi). If you didn't arrive at the door before 6 pm, you would not be guaranteed a spot until later on. I believe they have a pager system if you have to wait. Drinks: I do not drink alcohol so I cannot comment on that. I did really enjoy the selection of non-alcoholic drinks available. (Green monster and rosemary drinks were the best). The one drawback to this resort is the management and organization of dinners. One night we showed up to the Italian restaurant and it was closed with no notice on the app or on the door to the restaurant. Another night they closed the buffet with no notice on the app. On Easter Sunday they had a wonderful outdoor bbq for the guests, but there was no notice on the app or any signs up. We spoke to some people the next day, and they all assumed it was for a wedding party. The best part of the resort was the staff. So warm and helpful and hard, hard workers. Pools: Were lovely. It was very difficult to get a chair in the shade and I did have to go early to reserve some for our family. We did sit at our chairs at the pool right after breakfast. There were 3 different pools to choose from and a small water slide. Beach: I loved the beach, but it would not be everyone's cup of tea. If you are looking for the gorgeous waters or the Caribbean, then you will be disappointed. I tried snorkeling by the rocks, but did not see much of anything. I also hired a private boat to snorkel and dive and did not see much. Activities: I found there to be just the right amount of things to do. They have a morning and afternoon hike that is amazing. They have pool games, darts, and beach activities. I really appreciated that they didn't have a foam party as well. Teens: Our teens had a good time. They played water volleyball, water polo, and darts with Terry. I would like to give a big shout out to Terry who was absolutely amazing with my kids, and on the morning nature hike. My boys also appreciated the teen club (no adults allowed) that was open from 6 pm to 10 pm. It had a pool table, ping pong, and of course video games. Nightly entertainment was enjoyable. I went to bed early so I am not sure if there is a lot to do at night. Although there is a disco that opens late. All in all we loved our stay and would come back again.

Left a lot to be desired

This is going to be a lengthy review, as I want to make sure I cover everything about our trip. We came to Dreams from April 1-7 for our daughter's wedding. this was our first experience with an all inclusive resort. However, we have done cruises in the past. Let me start off by saying that my daughter did her research and picked this place. Her actual wedding day was everything she wanted it to be. Everything she had always envisioned. For that, I am very grateful. Her wedding coordinator, Caroly, was fantastic. Now, on to the rest of the trip. The rooms are okay. They aren't lavish, even with the preferred package, but are nice enough. We chose a room with an ocean view, so we were put in building 2 on the top floor. We did have a good view of the ocean, although our building was a little far back. The grounds are kept very nice and are beautiful. The pools are nice, and there are many to choose from, however there are a lot of leaves and such in them and very little seating for as crowded as it gets on the weekend. You definetly need to get down there early to snag a chair! Upon the third day of our stay, we entered our room to find two double beds. One of either side of our bed. Weird because we never ordered them. Due to us keeping our two grandchildren one night so the newly weds could enjoy some alone time, we had planned on them staying with us one of the nights, the very next night, so it happened to work out great and we kept them in our room. Towards the end of our stay, we came to find out that those beds were meant for our neighbors...ooops! They ended up coming and removing them. On our forth day of our stay, we left our room early to head down to the beach to get our massages from Angie Zapata (do yourself a huge favor and look her up, she is phenomenal and does them right on the beach!). It was raining so we decided to wait until the rain stopped. We headed back to our room and found 2 men in our room who said they were from "security" and they were taking pictures of our things in our room!! My husband and I were livid! They spoke no english, so had to interprete via google translate. They said they were from security and were in people's rooms making sure that they had all of their valuables put away in the safe! Mind you, all of our valuables were in our safe. I had some costume jewelry on the dresser and a pair of headphones out. But to be taking pictures of our things was an issue for us. Now, onto the food experience. My hubby and I are foodies. We hail from Louisville, KY and we are a foodie city. we gave the food a 4/10, at best. Like I mentioned earlier, we have been on cruises where it's all inclusive and the food was remarkable. The only great experience we had was the Hibachi grill. It was wonderful. But, go hungry, as they will not give you a box for leftovers! We had a terrible experience at the Italian restaurant. This is where my daughter chose to have our group dinner on the night of the wedding rehersal. Big mistake. We had to wait almost 2 hours for our pre planned meal, and they knew we were coming. While there were 30 of us, we had reservations and my daughter pre picked the meal along with some vegetarian options. TWO HOURS. And the food was lacking in quality. Lasagna, about a 4x4 square piece is what we waited for. Mind you, it was 100 degrees that day and we were seated outside, because no children are allowed inside the restaurant. The mexican restaurant was not good, either. Again, in this restaurant, we waited an hour to be served. I ordered the beef tenderloin with green sauce and took 2 bites of it, as it was cooked too death. The three milk cake was tasty. The world cafe is buffet style and they have a little of everything there. We gave it a 7/10. Nothing was unforgettably delicious, but was a bit average. Room service was hit or miss. Breakfast is better than dinner for sure, as I suspect it's because of the time of day. The shrimp omelet is very good for breakfast and the tomato cream soup is good for dinner. Thats about all I care to mention. The best food experience honestly was the small buffet table they have set up in the back of the preferred lobby where you check in. Inside is a preferred bar (the drinks are hit or miss, depending on the bartender) and a small set up of food in the back. For preferred members only. We had a lot of fun with the monkeys on the property. They are so cute and very friendly and if you're lucky, you will get many visits from them. The beach itself is not what I would consider a beautiful beach. It is a small stretch of ocean and even though temps were near 100 everyday we were there, the water was very cold. We spent most of our time in the pool. There is a good little grill down by the swim up bar pool that has good hot dogs, burgers and grilled chicken ceasar salads. All in all, we give our stay 3 stars, as we expected a bit more luxury for the thousands of dollars we spent. Oh, and be aware that the travel time to and from the airport is right under two hours, so plan accordingly.

Wedding/ Family Vacation - few feedback

We had an incredible wedding at Dreams - We had 35 people including teens and children. A shout out to Connie at the Tortuga bar,Terry who the kids loved more than anything and our wedding planner Andrea, who was amazing! We booked our wedding 2 years in advance with a company called destiny that does "flex booking" the hotel sold out 1 year before the wedding and as you can imagine most people hadn't booked yet. As rooms starting opening up they were thousands of dollars a night. We also learned that only 10% of the amount of the total amount of our guests were allowed to the wedding if they stayed off the property- that part was a nightmare. We were suppose to get a $450 credit for having more than 10 rooms, but since we weren't able to book all the rooms through destiny because of the limitations on rooms this hasn't been honored yet- we had more than 10 rooms for the wedding party though. Andrea did help me get 1 family that stayed off property to the wedding and I was so grateful The wedding was unreal, we spent whole lot of money on our wedding. The decor and details were amazing. The only part of the wedding that seemed a bit unorganized was the cocktail hour. The appetizers weren't good (except the chicken) and we weren't quite sure when to move to the next venue so were were all a little confused. But Once we were at the reception, the food was excellent! The venue, decor, music and fire show were just amazing! It was beautiful and perfect! I would do it all over again! We also had a welcome party the evening before that was a lot of fun and beautiful and I would do again! The Sunday brunch with the wedding I would skip paying for because you just get seating all together at the buffet. Not really worth the money We had the best room, swim out pool on the beach.... amazing amazing amazing! on the down side is they had events there and one night they had a wedding with a DJ until 10:30-11pm It was terrible- felt like it was in our room. There was another event there until 9 one night which was lovely because we went on the porch and enjoyed it and it ended at a reasonable hour- just a heads up. We did the hike with Terry- It was amazing! But its not a stroll bring plenty of water and sunscreen up and make sure you understand it is a hike! The grounds were beautiful and the food was decent we were happy! We did have 8 people from the wedding get violently ill, but maybe a virus going around not sure it had anything to with the resort. I give it A

Our 6th visit and we can not wait to return for our 7th…

This place is a dream, it just gets better and better each time we visit, the staff are so kind and helpful, they honestly make you feel so welcome. Each time we visit we meet old friends and make new friends with staff and other guests. The atmosphere around the whole resort is relaxed and super friendly. On this visit we did not take any excursions however, we did enjoy the sunset hike arranged by the hotel, it was about 90 mins depending on the speed of your group. “Tip” wear good shoes, not flip flops as it can get steep, stoney and slippery. The views are beautiful. We also did some Tequila tasting around the adults only pool (Preferred) which was very interesting hosted by Bryan, who is very knowledgeable and always good fun. The sunset kayaking is also a favourite of ours, again arranged by the hotel with a guide. Top Tip: take your phone as guests take the most amazing photos of each other in the kayak with the sunset behind them. The Yoga on the beach in the mornings (9.00am) is also hotel run however, it is normally by a hotel guest who is fully trained and a nice start to the day. If you are a Preferred guest there is a small beach bar (by the kayak hut) that gives out coconuts in the morning, we used to drink a bit of the coconut water then ask for a little coconut rum to be added. Our room was on the 7th floor and we had monkey’s visit us most morning on our balcony plus an amazing view of the whole resort including the beach with sunsets. All the staff are amazing but my wife and I would especially like to mention a few staff that were so special to us, they are: Felix for making our whole stay so exemplary, Louis for making sure we had everything we needed and more, Kenith for checking that everything was perfect, Kaylor (Swifty) for looking after us, Bryan for giving us a First Class Tequila tasting experience, Edgar for making us such delicious cocktails and our really enjoyable morning chats, plus hardworking staff like Sadie, Fernanda, Jocelyn & Rosa. The resort gardeners keep the grounds in prestine condition, there are plenty of pools to choose from plus sun loungers available all times of the day. The lower pool has a swim up bar and view of the beach. We are dreaming of our next stay already… Thank you Dreams
