Beautiful hotel! Luckily we stayed only 1 night and it was for free. I would have been mad if we had paid money. Not sure if it was because of COVID or because no one was staying when we were there (literally maybe 25 people max were staying at the hotel which maybe could have been because of COVID), but hardly any of the amenities of the hotel are available. Only 3 restaurants were open...the pizza and beer place (which was good), the “upscale” restaurant (which wasn’t upscale at all...not with decor/ambiance, food quality, or service), and the day lunch spot. There was an ice cream shop that was inconsistent with its hours. No activities were happening (other than a movie night which was billed as “outdoor” but was actually in a ballroom...nobody attended). But, I believe there are some nearby activities you can do like horseback riding, ATV tour etc. Pool is beautiful...and open 24 hours. Good fitness center. Beach is not that good. Not really swimmable area but you can walk down to a better part of the beach off the property. Staff was nice. Lisbeth at the pizza place was a pleasure and we loved our bellman (I knew we should have written his name down). We had a great room that had a tub and a patio and was ground level with beach view. Good transportation options avail on property of you want to go to Tamarindo for the day, etc. Very affordable too. But, speaking of transportation...just a heads up the road leading to the JW is long and awful...sooo many potholes and it’s a journey to get back out off the property. Overall, Marriott needs to upgrade this “luxury” property. It doesn’t seem to be up to par as a JW-level Marriott on all levels. Beautiful but buyer beware...make sure you’ll be getting all of the amenities, donut choices etc you’re paying for while there.

My family of 4 used Pininos Adventures for our transportation to and from the airport, and tours while we stayed at the JW Guanacaste. Carlos and Rainer were extremely professional and made our vacation amazing! They were always on time with a smile and information about Costa Rica. They made sure we saw lots of monkeys ?? and had a great time. We highly recommend Pininos Adventures!

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. Incredibly kind staff and amenities, great views, and amazing food. Special thanks to Chef Pablo and our servers Dennis and Luis Andres for making our experience so special. I’ve eaten all over, but genuinely the best meal of my life here. Chef Pablo took the fish we caught deep sea fishing and created an 8 course five star meal. Big thanks as well to Olger for his kindness and the best poolside drinks anywhere! Taught us how to make the BEST papaya mojito. Couldn’t recommend any more highly!

The food was beyond bad and disappointing

The food is terrible and will make you feel frustrated. It is not fresh, not carefully prepared, and not tasteful at all, quality is poor and disappointing. Some waiters even seem to know that in advance and will tell you “I wouldn’t recommend to order this over here, it won’t be good” By far, the worst experience in I’ve had in an all inclusive. The staff is nice and the drinks are “okay” but know that you’re not coming to experience delight or even satisfaction when it comes to the food. Would recommend the spa 100%.

My daughter visited in March, 2021. The room was perfect...a welcome place to nap after hours in the sun. The pool was magical...we spent a lot of time quietly on the edge of the pool watching the birds and the ocean. The food was really good. We went into Tamarindo twice for dinner, but otherwise enjoyed the meals on the property. BUT IT WAS THE PEOPLE!!! that made this trip. The staff here was so warm and inviting and kind and funny and helpful. I get teary thinking about it. We made true connections here and can't wait to come back. Thank you, thank you!
