4th Visit, Resort has gone way downhill.

We chose this hotel because over several years we had stayed here on three other occasions and absolutely loved it. Not so this time. Check in and out was smooth. No issues here. Room: We were in building 9. Not one of the newly renovated buildings. The room was very run-down. There were broken floor tiles that were a hazard for bare feet. Water from the room above kept coming through our bathroom ceiling. We complained but nobody ever came to check it out or fix it. That same room (above ours) had a very squeaky bed that was annoying but entertaining at the same time. It made for a good laugh most nights. One morning there were bugs on the bathroom countertop. Likely from the bulging wet ceiling. So gross! The curtains had holes and were dirty. Food: The food, for the most part, was okay but very repetitive. The hibachi restaurant was excellent. Beach: If you like cuddling with strangers then this is the place for you. It was so overcrowded that it was hard to get in and out of your chair without stepping on someone. It was very uncomfortable. There was something in the seaweed that made alot of people break out with a horrible, painful, and itchy rash that lasted a couple if weeks after you returned home. There were no warnings posted for this. Drinks: Were readily available and yummy. Resort: They keep adding more resorts all the time. I believe there are now seven resorts at this complex. This led to overcrowding everywhere. Entertainment: Just okay!

Just OK

Crystal M on Apr 07, 2024

It’s ok! I went with friends we like to have a good time with drinks and good food. This resort is just ok. The a la carts were wonderful but the buffet food was just ok. The entertainment really wasn’t much of a vibe by the beach at all. The pool with the best atmosphere was by the hotels and that is just because they had louder better music other than that you make your own atmosphere. Nightlife really isn’t great at all even though it says a club but it’s always dead for the most part. A lot of rude staff and pretty much no English. For a calmer trip this is a good resort but if you want vibes and a bit more of a good time feel I wouldn’t go here again.

Good hotel that requires some upgrades!

Kyle B (Milton, Canada) on Apr 03, 2024

Location is great, beautiful beach and water. Downside was the beach was very crowded (to be expected due to the time of year we chose to go). The rooms were nice, spacious and clean (had the “old” style room. Room cleaning service was great. Overall food variety was good and quality was average, way better selection at their Mexico properties. Downside was the buffet area at both Grand Punta Cana and Grand Bavaro properties is outdated and rundown and had a funky smell (sewage like). The snack areas by the pools were great and had good selection. The lunch buffet by the beach was great, very nice open restaurant with great views of the ocean and good food quality and selection. Pools were spacious and clean. Drinks at the pool bars were between average and good (it depended on the bar tender you got). A la carte restaurants: Garden Grill (Steak): great, really good steak and overall for selection, definitely worth going. Il Capriccio (Italian): terrible! Poor quality food offerings. Definitely not recommended. Mikado - Tepanyaki (Japanese): great experience for the whole family. Food was plentiful and very good. Definitely recommend. Overall we had a good experience and fun family trip, however I wouldn’t come back until I know the buffet and remainder of the hotel has undergone full renovations. Highly recommend doing the Isla Saona tour, it was the highlight of our trip.

Experience

Brittany J on Apr 01, 2024

The weather was amazing the entire week. The beach is beautiful and the pools were nice and kept clean. VERY busy resort as there is a bunch of resorts near each other and most if not all have access to the Grand Punta Cana. The food truck had some decent food and the tequila buffet for lunch was the best (at the beach) The rooms are very outdated. The mosquitoes are really bad so bring bug spray. The service in all all the buffet are nonexistent, A la cart … dont waste your time at the garden grill or itilian… went with a big group and it was a fun week but food wasn’t the best. There wasn’t really any “fun” entertainment.. we saw the fire show which was pretty cool and magic show which was alright. Other than that in the evening there is a disco bar (night club) starts at 11 or the Casino which was fun. Overall I would probably rate this resort 6/10.

Make paradise vegan friendly and mosquito free

iskkb on Apr 01, 2024

Lovely resort, good service and attentive staff, frequent shuttles to the beach and around the resort. Good entertainment and activities all day and evenings too. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Met all necessities. Good furniture. Would definitely visit again. Some suggestions. 1. There are many vegan options at the buffet but they need to be labelled (maybe a green dot or V sign??). The staff dont speak English and are very busy so it was very hard to know if for example, beans were vegan or if chicken stock or beef broth was used. 2. The vegan/vegetarian dishes were beside meat, cheese or seafood so serving spoons got mixed all the time. A dedicated little area for the vegan dishes would solve all the above prpblems. (The Barcelo and Majestic resorts have implemented this for several years). 3. Mosquito repellant dispensers at strategic locations around the resort would be appreciated by all. 4. The beach snack bar could use some on the go options like vegetable sticks, fruits, chips, cookies etc. 5. Outside the buffets, there are very limited meal/snack outlets. The bars need some easy snacks like chips, popcorn, fruit, etc.
