    Beautiful resort... Terrible customer service

The whole resort is breath taking! The big problem is the workers at the resort who expect a tip for every little thing or they get rude and roll their eyes if it isn't offered. We paid for an all inclusive. I didn't expect to pay an American dollar for every drink my bf and I had. If we didn't pay, they didn't come to us. On my last day, we sat on the couches at the front desk waiting for our bus. My bf and I got over 20 bed bug bites each at that moment. I went straight to the front desk to complain. He denied it at first until I was irritated. I know the difference between a mosquito bite and 20 consecutive bites in pattern on my arm and shoulder. Then he said they will "fumigate". That was the 19th of October. We were so scared of bringing it back home...

Our first visit to Punta Cana was a memorable one. We had fantastic 10 days and have all intentions to return some day. The staff was fantastic, the spa was beautiful and relaxing and the excursions we went on surpassed our expectations as well

I just want to make clear some details: 1.- Upon my arrival, I was assigned a Junior Suite with garden view instead of what had been booked that was a Junior Suite with a Sea View.. But I have very clear that the prices vary precisely in relation to the view the room has. Having a sea view was very important to me and that was why I chose a Junior Suite. And later turned more important when I was not allowed to go the beach anymore. 2.- When I arrived to my room on my Birthday, I just wanted to rest for a while, unpack and then have a good shower and get ready for dinner. When I entered the shower, I saw a used soap leaning in the hand shower. It was disgusting. So I decided not to touch it and showered only with the rain shower. As I was not shown how to use the showers, I could not stop the water flow from the hand shower and when I finished bathing, all the area was flooded and I almost fell. I threw all the towels available to the floor. Then called housekeeping and tried to put on a robe but any of the two available had a belt. 3.- The supervisor came and she was very kind and told me she was going to take care of that and explained me the cancels had just been changed and maybe not sealed well. 4.- I was decided to not let anything spoil my Birthday so I finished getting ready and went to my assigned restaurant. 5.- I came back to have a good rest stopping briefly at the theatre. 6.- Next morning as I got up, suddenly the door opened and it was the maid with a man who told me I had left the “clean” sign instead of the “do not disturb” one. I do not drink so I am sure I had put the right one but then she told me “you have slept too much”. In any case, she should have knocked before entering the room. I had to rush to shower and be ready before the buffet closed. 7.- On October the 11th. ( I had arrived on the 9th) I had a good walk at the beach and then went swimming in the beautiful and calm waters. On my way out, I stepped on something that cut my left toe and as I walked out of the water my foot was bleeding profusely. As the Safeguards were far cleaning the buoys (I had seen them during my walk), the Security Guard that was in the Safeguard cabin, called by radio and he came and even though he was very kind - did not heal my wound properly. He put a Band-Aid on it and told me he was going to get a wheel chair. As he did not come back in a while, I started walking towards the lobby and then I saw a lot of people looking towards the VIP Swimming Pool. Then I saw all the Safeguards an Security Personnel giving CPR to someone in a stretcher. I walked to the Infirmary and was told the doctor had gone in the ambulance. 8.- I had complained directly to the chain and had received a letter from the Hotel Director saying everything I went through during my stay had been “human errors” minimizing and exculpating his staff. With all due respect, I am a person committed to detail and with very high expectations. Had gone to a lot of scouting trips and never found any Manager or Director that minimized on the way he does it the bad guest service their staff provide. 8.- The Hotel “Doctor” did not tell me that her services were not included in the All-inclusive plan. She just asked me if I was Premier and then told me about how much money she was going to charge me.($200.00USD) When I answered that I had insurance, she limited herself to tell me that she did not work for my Company. Never asked how I was nor how I was feeling. When I explained her that I had injured myself in the Hotel Beach, she just told me she was independent from the Hotel. 9.-If the security, integrity and well-being of the guests are the priorities, as well as maintaining a safe environment, why were the safeguards cleaning the buoys instead of having them in their places with the right training? First Aid includes the basics in how to clean a wound and believe me that seeing a plastic bottle cut in half with water taken God knows from where (the pool? The beach showers?) is not reassuring to anyone. My wound was full of sand, if the Safeguard had brought a closed bottle of water and had a syringe to spray my cut hard with water so that the sand would come out, I wouldn´t have been so worried about an infection. Believe me I do know what a good Guest Service is and what it takes to assure the integrity, security and well being of me as a guest. 10.- The Safeguard did his best with the limited knowledge he obviously had and I appreciate very much his attitude. He really wanted to help me. 11.- I am so disappointed by the answer the Hotel Director gave me. I believe he had to take responsibility for the so called “human mistakes” and not only pretexts and apologies for his staff behaviour. 12.- I am not interested in money, I would have very much appreciated a sincere apology. Believe me it´s not my interest to have rewards. I just wanted the Hotel to recognize and acknowledge the poor service I received during my stay with the exceptions of Mr. Darling Tavera Acosta and Miss Katherine Olaverria as well as of Reimy the Safeguard. 13.- For now, believe me, I do not intend to return to this Hotel.

    Lovely Stay - our observations

We arrived later in the day on Friday, and there was no line up, and our room was available. Front desk staff were courteous. Someone brought some slushy drinks for the kids, and blew their minds. Bell hop took our bags to our room - we were in building 5. Building 5 is really a great location. Proximal to all necessities. The rooms are the width of the building across - one bedroom on each side. The kids had the room overlooking the kids pool area. Ours overlooked a courtyard. Room layout was perfect. Kids were thrilled to have their own door and TV. Bed and linens were clean and comfortable. There were cinch bags and T-shirts on the kids beds for them when we arrived. The rooms are separated by the entry-way which also has a minifrige, safe, and microwave. The bathroom is also off this common area, and was entirely satisfactory. The fan didn't work - which would have been really nice to remove humidity and odour. I'm pretty uptight about cleanliness, and there was certainly evidence of previous guests - lots of dark wood trim that showed the white toothpaste drips from those that came before us, and the water closet itself had a very strong odour of old urine. Wood finishes in the room weren't polished, and mirrors and glass railings showed evidence of previous guests, and also lack of thorough cleaning. All in all, not a major issue - considering the thousands of people and children who come and go in a place like this. We had one incident with a 9-year old accidentally lockiing himself in the bathroom, and none of us being able to get the lock open, so beware. He was pretty upset when dad was finally able to get the door open. The facility and grounds were great. Beautiful. Nicely maintained. The pools were super warm - almost like a bathtub some days. Our kids are a bit older - 9 & 12, but still enjoyed the kiddie park (signed as being for under 6). I actually managed to sneak down one of the slides with one of the kids before being (rightfully) admonished by one of the lifeguards. The buffet was fine. Lots of food. And something for everyone. While not all the food was to our taste, we were all able to find nutrition to satisfy us. Day 4 I was struck with violent food poisioning - either from a very rare piece of beef I selected for myself or a piece of lasagna from the sportsbar. I was out of commission for a solid 24 hours. Again - with the number of people who are being fed in this resort, the staff do an amazing job, and an incident of food poisoning or sensitivity here and there is bound to happen. Our family visited the pirate park - and enjoyed it. We also enjoyed the beautiful beach. There were always lots of chairs anywhere we wanted to be located. We found this resort to be very unaffected by American ways - the majority of the other guests were Spanish speaking, lots of of Europeans. It was quite refreshing. None of us speak spanish, but we were able to make ourselves understood and communicate just fine. Other guests would be my only complaint. When sharing space, being courteous and mindful of others would be really nice. But that's not the hotel's responsibility. We had children shreiking in the stairways outside our room until midnight, and another night, an especially persistent woman wouldn't stop erroneously knocking on our door at 1am. All in all, a great vacation. We all loved the place, and would consider it for future vacations.
