    St. Martin is such a beautiful island, and this hotel seemed so promising but failed to deliver on so many fronts. I literally lay here in my musty hotel room in my towel with disgusting sand and salt all over me UNABLE to take a shower because there is no hot water. And like a previous guest said, the hotel reception claimed the issue would be ‘resolved by 9:00’ As I read previous guest reviews, I’m going ‘Uh huh! Yep!’ Because they are all perfectly accurate. Some reception staff okay, others not so much and are extremely slow and unknowledgeable. Don’t expect to be told ANYTHING, figure it out when it hits the fan. Pool service, non existent. Outlaying bars are slow as molasses, everyone was ordering two drinks bc the turnaround time was that horrible. Restaurants are no good, or unavailable without week prior reservation. No lifeguard on duty overlooking slides! I had to take on this role myself to ensure safety of my 6 year old from other kids standing on slide and waiting at the end of the slide for others to crash into them. Kids club seemed ok, but they have all the video game consoles upstairs, I couldn’t figure out why my son was so insistent on going until I figured out he was playing video games the whole time. (something undisclosed) No chairs, no towels, the guy at the beach looked at me as I looked around for a chair at 10:45 AM and said “what are you looking for?” When I replied ‘a beach chair’ he literally laughed and said they are all gone by 8:30-9. It was Monday morning. OHH!! IF YOU ARE CLAUSTROPHOBIC BEWARE!!! The elevators are teeny oompa loompa tiny boxes of despair! Had to switch to first floor room after riding in one the first time (the higher floors are better, and I probably shouldn’t complain that my first floor room is musty, but I’m just saying....) I would never stay here again. Blech.

    if you're thinking of visiting the Sonesta Maho resort, wait until this resort is ready for large crowds, as of now it's woefully unprepared. Our patio overlooked a construction dump, on the second day they broke a watermain and we were without water for most of the afternoon, the next day the fire alarm went off for an 1 1/2 and no one ever explained if there actually was a fire. 3 days later they shut the water off from 4 -9 pm. They have 2 tiny elevators for the entire building, the food in the buffett is extremely limited and not very good. absolutely no value for the prices charging. It's a shame as some of the staff are wonderful and trying to help as much as they can. We were really looking forward to this trip but it's been totally disappointing

    This place is far from done Let me name a few and if you dont care for these issues feel free to visit and enjoy this Chaos 1) alarm goes off in room, hall and stays on for an hr and response is they are testing 2) WC cant be flushed as water is off turns out for entire day thwy are working on something and WCs are filled with Human waste not being able to flush... again response is work is being done 3) best one is at 5 pm there is No hot water upon calling front desk they calmly say it will be back on at 9pm This is just the begining And i dont know where all the positive feedback about staff comes from as i find most of them useless..... They are lost as to what to do and how to do anything seems like they are lacking major Training...... Thank You Sonesta for ruining our vacation

    Stayed at the Hotel for 5 nights. Travel agent billed this as a 4 star hotel. The good, bad, the ugly: 1. Hotel is not finished with scarce decorations and construction all over. Sewer smell by pool at 3pm every day. 2. Food is Horrible and spare. No snacks, water or soft drinks. Could not get water for a baby and had to go to near near super market. Restaurants do not have room for you. Buffet has bugs flying over it and looks disgusting. Had to eat off properly every night. NO healthy options at all. Fried food only. Only salad was Caesar and Cobb with wilted lettuce. 3. Had lunch at main pool restaurant and was told too bad their was no high chair and no water. Got an eye roll at breakfast when I asked for cream. 4. Pool looks old and dilapidated even though it’s brand new. Issue getting pool towels. 5. Had trouble getting room cleaned and clean towels for room. Had to talk to the manager Kurt just to get bath towels. 6. Was never informed this was a soft re-opening. Just not ready for guests at all. 7. No service anywhere. No pool or beach service. It’s horrendous. Maid service if you are lucky and complain. No one responds to tips. 8. Elevator is broken and did not stop at the 4th floor often had to walk through stairway that is t finished with stairs with holes in them. Visit St. Marten just DO NOT STAY as this hotel!!

    So happy to see my Heaven here on Earth!

    I was so excited to be back in St. Maarten! My Heaven here on Earth! The sun was shining brightly for 3 weeks and the ocean and sand were calming to the soul! Sonesta Maho is as beautiful as it always was! Beautiful views from beautifully appointed and decorated rooms! Beautiful people who are always so welcoming and so happy! Sheryl and Keric are the best! Always smiling! I was so happy to be a guest at this resort on this fabulous island! Very grateful and truly blessed!
