I was there from September 28-October 5. I had received an email from Air Transat that 2 of the restaurants will be closed due to low season. I was ok with that, thinking there is a buffet restaurant. However the buffet restaurant was also closed!!! Resort had arranged buffet meals, however was not set very well. Food was left often outside and there were flies all over it!!! No body knew when the buffet restaurant would open (it was tomorrow, everyday). After complaining, the hotel asked us if we would like to move to another hotel - which we agreed. However we didn't as one of the staff member told us that the buffet was actually going to open the next day as there were delegates and investors were coming and things will change! Mykael from the Level was nice enough to arrange for us to eat at the Level restaurant for 1 day. Entertaining (before the delegates arrived) was practically non-exiting. Nothing to do after dinner - was very boring. We spent a lot of time at the Lobby Bar because the staff were great there! Kudos to Lezareto, Mary, Luis, Rykie and Rosa - they made our evenings wonderful!! Thank you! Buffet restaurant had a nice Marina view. I would never go back to this resort!!

We stayed on the level floor and had a nice room with a beautiful marina view. Our maid was very pleasant and did a great job cleaning our room. The staff on the level floor went out of their way as usual to make our visit a great experience. Andie in the lobby bar kept our glasses full and always kept us entertained as well. It was my birthday and Yeinsy even brought a cake to celebrate with us!!! A convention with 500 guests checked in during our stay but our service and enjoyment did not suffer and remained at a high standard.

The hotel could have been anywhere to be honest and only the beach made you realise you were somewhere different. From our room we had a view of the marina, which was nice but rather busy for a resort, with large early morning groups leaving for excursions. Not much to do around Varadero but coming from Havana it was a nice welcomed relaxation spot. The restaurants, bars and snack bars were mediocre but could sometimes provided nice surprises. However, some were hardly open throughout the week, particularly the restaurant closest to the beach and booking evening meals in different restaurant was a bit of a task, often to be turned down. Staff were ok but they could spend too much time on some demanding guests whilst ignoring others (we queued for 35 mins whilst one guest decided which restaurant she wants and the staff never told her that the queue was growing longer and longer in that time). Beach was the main redeeming feature and we spent a lot of time there. Won't go back but glad we did it, Cuba still has a long way to go before it becomes a leading holiday destination but unfortunately its shortfalls attract a lot of visitors, so I doubt it would improve. It reminds me of destinations such as Mauritius, the Maldives and the Seychelles in the late 80s early 90s and it still has a long way to go before it catches up with those places.
