This is a very well run resort. It's well maintained, clean, and seems to have good management. I have been to Cuba a few times, and this is the best resort I've seen so far. I travelled from Canada on a Sunwing package, March 10 - 17. Thanks very much to Beatriz and Arahy at the front desk. These ladies helped me very much during my stay. I enjoyed staying in the main building. It's open-air and quite beautiful. Very clean and well maintained. The room itself (Ocean View) exceeded my expectation. Nearly everything in good repair, excellent fresh air flow, excellent bed. Really very nice! Yes, I loved the food. I was very satisfied with the buffet and I ate quite a bit every meal. There was even some interesting variety on the hot dishes including various mixed veggies and even some fried calamari (occasional). Many rice dishes. Some very nice fish at the grill. Nice desserts including some shortbread cookies and a very interesting honey-soaked bread which was delicious (occasional). Walking around the grounds was pleasant. They have a nice walkway following the beach, among trees. If you like to walk, you can cover lots of distance and walk endlessly eastward down the beach. The beach is spectacular and larger than most resorts. Lots of places to sit, though sometimes you have to spend some time looking. I brought my own towel from home and didn't rent one. I brought single US Dollar bills to give as tips. Some minor negatives: At times, there wasn't enough hot water, so you might have to be flexible on your shower times. Most days there was enough hot water. Sometimes it is hard to find someone who speaks English, but I got by just fine with some basic Spanish phrases. Many employees do speak English but sometimes you may have to come back to the front desk later. The electronic lock on my door had some problems, but a repair man showed me the trick to it. When leaving, you should check that the door is properly locked. If it isn't, open, and re-lock it.

My daughter and I stayed here for a week during a very unprecedented time around the world... little did we know that within 24-48 hours of departing our home province in Canada, the world would come to a complete halt. It was the most unsettling time to be away and difficult to enjoy while counting the hours until we would return home. Who would’ve imagined this. What made this week more bearable, were the exceptional staff and their caring, heartfelt attention to our needs. They made every effort to accommodate us in any way possible and for this, I’m grateful. Constant smiles, warm and friendly hellos, attentive customer service whenever and wherever possible. This is what matters most in my opinion. All the reviews I’d read before coming, some were in line with our experience and others not so much but of all things important, this hotel met our expectations and we would unquestionably return. We look forward to a future, redo trip under more calm and ideal circumstances. I would absolutely recommend this hotel as it gave us a feeling of home. No shortage of anything. Whatever you needed, they were on it. All the ladies that worked The Cohiba Bar were exceptionally friendly, so sweet and kind. The staff everywhere on the resort were amazing! The hotel is kept very clean which is a huge plus in my opinion, the food was great, quite impressed actually and the beach and bar staff at the beach were fantastic! A very special thank you to Beatrice. You are a wonderful woman and Labranda is very lucky to have to have you on staff. I greeted you at 7:00 am my first morning at the resort with tears, sadness and fear due to the rising spread and fear of COVID-19 and you did everything you could to support me and my daughter. Thank you Beatrice, I hope to see you again. Xo Another special thank you to Naomy (Customer Service Staff) for again, sharing words of comfort and support, going above and beyond to make us feel at ease. Thank Naomy. Thank you to all Labranda staff and Management, we will be back. Our prayers go out to the entire world... may we find our way back to peace and comfort, through our strength and perseverance. Love, health and peace to all. #covid19

We had a great time at the Labranda resort in Varadero. The 2 weeks we spent there in February, would have us visit the same resort again if we went to that city again. Check-in was a breeze. We were quickly given our wrist bands so we could access the bar and the buffet. Carlos and Marco the bell boys were very helpful and kept our bags in safe keeping till we could access our rooms after 4 p.m. The rooms our group was given in the main building were good but lacked a few niceties like bedside tables having drawers, the huge closet not having a light, shelves to store your clothes, and more hangers. (I’m sure if we asked, we would get them). The shower in the bathroom was missing the sliding door (with water tending to spray out on the floor). The sink tap sprayed water all over the place. I have to say there are minor items that need fixing in the rooms. We approached the girls at the reception with our concerns. They obliged us by showing us some rooms in the bungalows and were willing to move us to them if they were to our liking. And that’s exactly what took place. All of us were happy. I have to say that Roxana, Danelys, Damays and the other girls at the reception were very friendly and accommodating. Hence for those reviews mentioning that the young women at the reception were unhelpful and that the check-in process was bad, I really do not know what they were talking about. The girls can only do so much and so fast, especially if you have 2 or 3 bus loads arriving at the same time. All it takes...... is treating others the way you would like to be treated. Wi-Fi/internet all over the resort was fairly good. It did come at a small cost. Our chamber-maid Thelena always did a fancy job of getting our room neat and tidy with a supply of towels and other amenities needed in the rooms. A checklist when doing up the rooms would be extremely helpful for them so that they do not forget any utilities needed by the guests. I have to point out that the supervisors should make themselves useful by looking into the maintenance of the showers, the toilet flush systems, the room door locks etc.. The best time to look after these items is when there is a down time in the occupancy of the rooms. Setting up a clear schedule would do the trick. Maricelli and Niliset at the Antillas restaurant were very helpful and made sure all our dining needs were taken care of. The buffet had a good spread. The food is as good as you would expect in Cuba. It is possibly because the spices that are available are limited, both in supply and what the chefs are accustomed to and trained for in the art of cooking. The buffet had varied options in food. But attention should be paid to the coffee always being HOT. The food should also be piping hot, and kept at safe temperatures. The Stir-fry, BBQ, and Fish stations were always the best. The maintenance of equipment is lacking. The ice-cream was not frozen as it should have been. I pointed it out to the supervisors who noted my complaint but nothing was done about it in the 15 days that we were there. Everyone is willing to help but few really take care of it. They should also have an effective fly and insect killing gadget so that insects are not hovering or sitting on the food or crockery and cutlery placed on the tables. Special mention must be made of Geannys, Danay, Yelennys and Wendy the girls who served us at the table. The day we booked dinner at the Med restaurant was a total disappointment. It was Italian food, but an Italian would bow his head in shame if he/she was present the night we were there. The aperitifs were worse than the ones that you pull out of a freezer and pop into a microwave. The food served was cold. You needed a saw to cut the Ravioli. The food a total disappointment. The only saving grace of the evening was Pedro who was serving us and his constant humour that kept us going. Dinner at the Fusion restaurant was much much better. Food was great, well prepared and tasty. Yaimi (Jamie) attended to our needs with her captivating smile and made the evening even better. We also got Jorge to smile. All in all, the evening was a hit. The Cohiba Bar in the main building was the bar where all the action took place. Kendra, Melissa. Roxanna, Avevoneg, Yamari, Milay, Edith, Frank, Bryan and Ronaldo, all of them were the best. They worked relentlessly to keep everyone happy and serve them with speed. I have to mention that the supervisors were absent until the General Manager showed up. But the supervisor who I believe wanted to assert his authority, reprimanded the girls when they were talking/being friendly with the guests. But I must say that even while being friendly with the guests, the girls at the bar didn’t skip a beat in serving all of us with speed. Guests come to the resort again because they feel welcome and at home there. So, supervisors just remember, it is customer service that is Very Important. The nightly entertainment was to our satisfaction although the volume of the music needs fine tuning as it is not supposed to make the guests deaf. The music at the La Sirena pool should be toned down a bit, during siesta time. Quite a few seniors frequent the resort and they need their afternoon nap. I have to mention how helpful and friendly Osman (Pancho)was to us. He always took the time to greet us and see if anyone was in need of anything to make their stay there a pleasant one. Our stay at the resort was enjoyable to say the least. And a return to the resort for a holiday could be a possibility.
