We were here recently for my birthday and it did not disappoint. We stayed on the gold level and everything was great. My only complaint is when we arrived we had to drag our luggage up to the first floor because no bellman offered to help us with our bags. It all got better once we got to the gold level floor. The concierge staff are very good and very helpful. Leslie mapped out a plan for our day and told us a great place to eat at Fishermans Wharf. We only really had one full day in Victoria so she was really helpful. We loved the patio where you can eat breakfast or have a cocktail. We also enjoyed afternoon cookies. Our room was quite large with a big bathroom and very comfortable. We had no view which actually is great because there was no street noise. I am a light sleeper and slept like a baby both nights we were there. It is a beautiful old hotel and I loved that there is a resident dog in the lobby. I would stay here again because of the service (minus the bellmen) and the great location.

Located on the harbour frontage of lovely Victoria the Empress is a fabulous hotel. The impressive entrance, attention to detail and level of service could not be bettered. Although a very large hotel the general impression is one of a boutique hotel where everything is to hand and the staff seem to know that you. Lovely.

Our families stayed in this beautiful hotel and City last month. The Hotel is close to everything, right on the waterfront and a walking distance from the ferry. We needed 3 rooms and were placed right next to other, which we appreciated. We got a book about Canada's haunted places and were thrilled to see that the Empress was among them. At night, grandmother and children went for a walk to the places were ghosts had been seen. The children's faces alone were unforgettable. The bus to go to Butchart Gardens leaves from right in front of the hotel. The rooms were plenty big for us and the beds very comfortable. One night, we had room service which was amazing. We did not try the Victorian Afternoon Tea because none of us have sweets or bread for that matter. It did not seem worth it for us. The Swimming pool is open until very late so we were able to use it in spite of being out all day walking around this incredibly beautiful city.

We REALLY wanted to like this lunch more than it turned out in order to give it a fave review. First let me say the service was outstanding! Our waiter's service was excellent if you could rate an individual, it would be 5 stars! The tea selection was amazing and our waiter shared some personal preferences based on what we told him we typically enjoy. What was a bit of a let-down was the setting. It was held in their main dining room/ball room. An open affair which proved to be very noisy-to the point you could hardly hear he piano. We were hoping for a more quiet, intimate setting but just the number of people and background noise and distractions did not lend itself to a quiet and relaxing tea. The scones/sandwiches/deserts were very good, although nothing out of the ordinary. They did offer red salmon on a cracker which would have been better if the cracker was not so soggy. We were offered cucumber, egg salad and ham and cheese finger sandwiches. As I mentioned, the deserts were very good. For the price listed, I guess I was expecting a bit more. We have enjoyed Teas in other countries and unfortunately this was a bit of a let-down. I've said that sometimes it just happens you are let down by something not usually typical of a restaurant or hotel. Unfortunately, it's not likely we will be back to see if it was a one time fluke. Overall, I would still recommend making reservations if you enjoy Tea, but be aware of some the observations I've mentioned.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this amazing hotel, but first time with my kids. Service was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. We got “let’s take the kids” hotel offer and it was worth it. They set up a nice tent in the room with stuffed animal, coloring and activity book. My kids loved playing in the tent and having cookies and milk at night. The room was well decorated, with spacious walking closet and nice view to the harbor. Bed and pillows where very comfortable. The gym included all amenities you can think of for a good workout. The kids had a lot of fun in the indoor pool. Room service was excellent. Definitely once in a lifetime experience for the family.
