We had a garden view room. The room was clean but dated. Only issue was that we had to let the shower run for about 5 minutes to get hot water. There was no fridge. When we book again we will try to get a pool side room. They are closer to all amenities. The food was great. Breakfast and dinner are at an upstairs dining room. There are 8 steps to a landing and then another 20 steps up. This would make it a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. Lunch most days (except for rainy days) was beside the pool. Great burgers, fries, salad etc. The resort has 2 bars but the lobby bar was only open from 6 to 10 p.m. There was usually a 10 minute wait at the pool. They could definitely a 2nd bartender. We took a taxi into St. John's. It was reasonable and worth the time. There is a shuttle to Shirley Heights (a high point on the island and good for views and watching the sunset). The shuttle is Thursdays and Sundays. We went on Sunday and it was very busy and a party atmosphere with steel drum band and barbecue. We were sorry we went on such a busy night. You can go any day you just have to pay for a taxi. The beach is beautiful but was a little crowded on days that cruise ships were in port. We would definitely go back.

Firstly May I apologise to Starfish Halcyon Cove for my late review. Myself my wife and our 2 teenage daughters stayed all inclusive at the Halcyon Cove at the end of October 19 for 2 glorious weeks. This was without doubt the Best all round holiday myself and my family has ever had!! The hotel has a 3 star rating which basically means a budget hotel not a 5 star hotel that some other reviewers seem to expect. Some of the bad reviews I’ve read about Halcyon Cove are completely unbelievable ,and far fetched. Surely people must realise that if you pay a budget price for an all inclusive holiday how can they possible expect anything more. Maybe to get what they obviously expect from this type of holiday they should book themselves into the Sandals hotel next door. Oh and by the way they’ll pay at least 3 times the cost EACH... Agreed the hotel could do with some updating but surely spending 14 days on that heavenly beach which is on your door step is worth the cost of the holiday alone. Anyway the bottom line is we loved the staff the food and especially the position of this lovely hotel so much that we’ve booked another 10 day all inclusive holiday for this April 20. This time it’s just myself and my wife returning and we’re counting down the minutes... So a kind polite message to all the management and owners of the Starfish Halcyon Cove Please keep up all the good work. Look forward to seeing you all very soon.........Take care??

We were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews, but we went ahead and booked a 2 week stay. We were looking for a smaller, quieter hotel with a more local island feel and we found that here. This is the charm of Halcyon Cove and some of the staff that we encountered made us feel very welcome to be there as their guests. I will mention their names later. It is very important that you know what you are looking for in a hotel before you book. If you pay 3* prices, then you should not expect 5* amenities. Due to the fact it is not a huge resort with hundreds and hundreds of guests, the food choices are more limited but we found more than enough to choose from and never had to walk away feeling hungry at any time. Continuous loud music all day and night, you will not find here. Most nights there is some sort of entertainment like a live band and a DJ. Activies during the day are available but are more low key and you can participate if you want to or not at all. The Poolview rooms are the best rooms. It is not worth the extra expense for an Oceanview room as the pool view rooms are much nicer. Thanks to: Debbie in Reception who always asked if everything was OK. Devon, the Food and Beverage Manager who worked tirelessly. Ladonna at the Towel Hut who always had a smile on her face to greet everyone. Fenton, the Guest Services Manager who was very welcoming and good at his job. Michael, the Duty Manager who ensured that we enjoyed our stay. Wait staff, Steve, Marguetette, Roxanne and Daisilyn who worked continuously in the restaurant to keep the guests fed. Janet in Housekeeping. The location and beach is beautiful. Yes, the hotel is dated and tired but we heard that much need renovations are scheduled for this spring.

As I do for all my stays, I did some research on this property from Trip Advisor. Based on the low scores, I had my concerns. But decided to give it a try since I was only visiting for two nights. Well that was two nights too many. I have never felt dirtier staying at a property. I actually chose to bath in the ocean (as odd as that sounds) to avoid stepping in their rusty shower. Aside from the rust, and the HUGE dead roach just chilling in the middle of the room, the water was coming out brown from the sink. Another challenge for showering was the lack of towels. They provide you with one face towel and another larger towel. Not very convenient when there are two of you. Don't bother calling reception as there are no phones in the room. I decided to air dry after my cleansing in the ocean. Probably better off as I found several little hairs on the towel they provided us. Last comment about the room, don't bother turning on the TV. Every channel is scrambled. This was the least of my concern though. Now for the food.... Well let's just say I decided to eat offsite every meal (except for one). Kind of unfortunate though given this was an all-inclusive property. They only offer a few hours per day for meals, then the kitchen closes. Don't expect food around the clock. But then again, after the quality of food I saw (and tasted), you're certainly better off outside the hotel. Speaking of all-inclusive, non-motorized water sports are provided!! But unfortunately the shop is never open. I was told to just grab a paddle board on my own. Well that worked out great for about 20 ft until the board sunk. How is that even possible?! Sadly this was the quality of all their equipment. Last comment, as I know it's getting to be a bit much, their service level was atrocious. Everyone looked extremely angry and was very unhelpful. Certainly not the Caribbean energy one would expect. I realize my feedback is a bit harsh. But every detail provided is 100% accurate. Feel free to peek at my other reviews. I've got quite a few amazing experiences, so this is not a case of some "disgruntled" guest. I partly knew what I was in for. I just wish I would have really known the severity of what I was getting. Hopefully this will aide travelers considering this property.

We had a great time. Beaches were beautiful. Lots of water sports offered. We particularly enjoyed the aqua fit classes in the morning with Dave. Excellent workout, he made it fun. I’d go back again just for that.
