As a UVC member, we have had several stays at Secrets Aura. This trip was planned at the last minute because of a cancellation at another destination. Due to the late reservation (2 weeks out), the only room category availabile to us was "Run of the House" which meant we really did not know what to expect until we arrived. However, because of the fantastic customer service of Preferred Club Manager Nelly Bass and UVC Member Services representative Agnes, 2 of our three couples were accomodated in excellent rooms with excellent views immediately , and we were upgraded as soon as humanly possible, so these people rank at the highest level of professionalism and caring we have ever experienced. In addition,, despite the continuing challenges of a COVID world, the service staff throughout the resort were wonderful. Highlights were PORTOFINO staff Carolina and Lourdes at breakfast and lunch and Javier at the bar; Mario Cervantes and Darwin at MARKETPLACE CAFE; At OCEANA, Armondo Josue and Leonardo. Javier was non stop making drinks at PATIO too. And the 2 housekeepers who serviced our rooms in the 42 buildig and the 14 building were tireless! Getting the on-site dock back during our stay was wonderful although the walk through the resort to the Palancar dock was easy, especially since our dive boat was able to keep our stuff between dives. We will be back

Late on writing review but her it goes. Couples trip Jan 2021. First the good: Hotel staff friendly and helpful for the most part. Hotel was clean and practice good COVID protocols. Drinks were top shelf and good quality. Pools were clean but cold as hell. Time of Year. Warning!! Pools are tile and very slick and almost dangerous at times for slipping especially for seasoned folks. Be very careful. Food was pretty good with the exception of the French restaurant which we did not care for. Now for the Bad: While hotel staff is friendly, management is absolutely terrible. Spent first night in room with no hot water. Took two days to get in a room with hot water. Only after I told one of the managers I was going to raise holly hell in front of all the people they were trying to sell time shares to did I get the problem resolved. (Very Important that you listen to this) From the time you get there, they are trying to sell you a time share. They will offer you 200 plus dollars in rewards to take an hour and a half tour of the facility. DONT WASTE YOUR VACATION TIME ON THIS ITS NOT WORTH IT. The so called 1.5 hours took us 4 hours until we put a stop to it. It ruined our last vacation day. If you have no intentions of buying a 30 to 70 thousand dollar time share package, don't fall for this scam. Stop them right at the door when you check in, they are pushy so push back and tell them to stop screwing with the vacation that you paid for. IF YOU TAKE MY ADVICE YOU WILL HAVE A NICE VACATION. The facility is nice but its not one of Secrets premier properties and its not a Sandals (nor is it as expensive) so don't set your self up for disappointment. Its a nice place Enjoy. PS. Get a cab to take you one evening to the LOBSTER HOUSE in town. Its romantic and the best lobster you will ever eat. Take cash they don't accept credit cards. Pick your lobster, sold by the pound. Average cost 120.00 US per couple including wine and desert.

This was a much needed vacation after a trying year. We very much enjoyed our time at Secrets Aura. The staff was good and responsive to our requests. The food was excellent, and they were very accommodating with my wife's food allergies. We have been to other Secret Resorts in the Dominican and found this one to be one of our favorites.

Stayed in the Preferred section; eight adults including our four adult children between the ages of 24 and 31. We thought it would be a good time to go to Cozumel with no cruise ships docking at the island and were looking for a relaxed atmosphere with snorkeling and swimming activities. Some of the staff who stood out were Alejandro (Preferred Pool waiter), Delores (Sky Bar and Gohan restaurant server), Angel (Sky Bar bartender), Rodolfo (Sky Bar server), Brit (Activities coordinator), Santos and Adrian (wait staff at Market Cafe). Transportation: Cozushuttle ($9/person), Taxi ($20 – 29) up to four people Facilities: the design of the resort and the rooms are definitely dated. Rooms - some rooms with only one sink; stayed in the preferred section that apparently has nicer rooms than the non-preferred but still in need of updates/repairs due to use and wear; rooms were large however with nice rain shower and free standing tub; some problems with temperature and water pressure in some of the rooms, ours was fine; the pools were older with the preferred pool not even having step out stairs (had two step out metal ladders). Staffing: there was a scarcity of staff – quite different from the other AM Resorts (we have been to six over the last seven months). The staff that was there worked very hard, but there just were not enough to perform the work that needed to be done. Perhaps it is difficult to hire staff given the island location, but the lack of staff was very noticeable and are the source of some of the other comments in this review. Maintenance: not maintained as well as other AM Resorts that we have stayed at; pool water left too low so that the skimmers were unable to filter – left the water dirty with sunscreen sheens on the surface, particularly in the morning and late afternoon; walkways not swept but perhaps once a day; room service food and drink left outside the room not picked up but perhaps once or day or longer. Location: this is by far the best attribute of the resort. The water is quite clear, you can snorkel off the beach and see hundreds of fish, the sunsets are beautiful, and the rebuilt pier makes accessing dive, snorkeling, fishing and sightseeing tours extremely convenient. The beach is rocky, so water shoes are helpful although there are areas on the beach where you can get in carefully and then swim out once the water deepens. Preferred Club: disappointing – closed at 6 pm, no hor d’oeurvres or snacks, very slow bar service with limited to no alcohol quality upgrades. Demographics: older, beach/sea experienced crowd (50+). While there were some younger people, many were older and many were there to dive and snorkel or hang out in the pool and drink and socialize, not necessarily looking for the newest/nicest resort like most of the other Secrets resorts. Many of the guests were UVC members and had been to multiple AM Resorts so they had the experience to compare resorts and knew what their priorities were (location and water activities). Pier: just redone/repaired when we were there. Fully active with boat traffic. They did a very nice job on the pier. Vibe: a “beach/tropical” vibe. Kind of a “Key West”, laid back vibe; while there was some late-night activity usually at the Sky Bar, it tapered off very quickly after midnight. Food – we heard a lot of negative reviews on the food, but we found it to be fine. Somewhat limited menu, but the sushi at the Gohan restaurant (next to the Sky Top bar) was particularly good and Market Cafe was also good, especially during their Italian nights. Overall, my suggestion is to know what you are looking for. If it is a relaxed beach/island vibe and diving, snorkeling and sunsets/views are important, this resort is a very good choice. If you prefer an energetic atmosphere, more modern facilities, an active nightlife and greater dining quality/options, then I would go elsewhere.

Great hotel, we loved the boats could pick up up right in front of the hotel for excursions. Hammocks in the ocean, tons of restaurants, we had an amazing time!! Highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a getaway, with great service, and awesome beach.
